Strength training will provide you the best results along with a good amount of calories. Generally 20% less than your tdee. But the key is overall body fat reduction.0

Sorry had to. Fat loss is what improves the tightness of the body, not cardio.0 -
what type of exercises would that include? i do the elliptical mostly0

I've been doing Chalean Extreme. Great for "post baby bodies" because it works on buiding muscles, which eventually leads to losing fat. It's 5 days a week - 3 with hand weights and 2 cardio/stretching. I wasn't really overweight, just flabby, and I lost 3 1/2 inches in my stomach the first month.0

is that a dvd? where do u get it?0

*3 1/2 inches in my stomach AND hips the first month (sorry, the first thing I wrote is highly unlikely to happen in ONE month!).0 -
www.bodyrock.tv or http://www.youtube.com/user/ZuzkaLight?feature=watch
edited to add that they're both free, and they are short and intense workouts so they are easy to do while your baby is napping0 -
Moderate calorie deficit combined with adequate protein, heavy lifting and moderate cardio. And most importantly TIME. Your grew a human. You can't recover from that quickly. Give yourself a full year even more. Don't beat yourself up.
As far as weight lifting programs I'd suggest Stronglifts 5x5 or New Rules of Weight Lifting for Women. Start light. REALLY focus on your form. There are good videos all over Youtube (Mark Riptoe's are great). Get someone who knows how to lift to help you, if you can.

I lost 10cm off my tummy in 33 days doing Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred when my baby was 7 months old...0

Cardio AND strength training are best. I realize that some people are seriously pro strength training, but seriously, to loose the baby stuff (which is what I'm working on too BTW), you need to do both. I've been exercising regularly for only 2 1/2 weeks, doing strength training at least 2 days a week and cardio 2-3 days a week. Its working for me. Don't ignore either component.
P.S. you can do this!!!0 -

A good rule of thumb..........don't listen to anyone on MFP who thinks they know the absolute answer for everyone.
That said, I lost most of my belly with a combo of cardio (running & spinning) and weight training. I really like the Biggest Loser Boot Camp DVD for working out at home when I need it.0 -
thank you all for your advice it helps a lot i appreciate it... i just recently got separated and i guess you could say my confidence is really low so im trying to get a better body and eating habits to feel better about myself.0

Watch what you eat (cut portion size in half), drink lots of water, don't eat at night, do some cardio and core workouts everyday. I do give myself Sundays off.
I do Zumba, Step, Elliptical, run, jump rope, etc for at least an hour a day. I also do about 100 sit ups per day. I've lost 27 pounds in 7 weeks. It takes dedication0 -
Pilates and running have helped me. I still have a ways to go, but Pilates has helped tone and tighten and running helps me create the calorie deficit I need to lose body fat all over. I like the POP Pilates series on YouTube. Watching my sodium also helps keep any bloating down to a minimum.0

well ive already lost 12lbs in about a week and a half i can tell a little difference i just want to lose this belly i workout everyday and i have changed my eating habits0

What they said! Check out my stomach... gave birth to my 2nd 8 months ago. I do 3 days cardio 3 strength and I try to stay under 1200 calories... but I am only 5 feet 1. Cardio alone won't do it you need all three! I follow the body for life program. Good luck!0 -
Anything that brings weight loss will help some... To tighten abs, I've found that My Pilates class has been GREAT. Or any class or DVD that specifically focuses on "strengthening the core" will be good.0

I completely agree with this^^ and would recommend you also focus on some performance goals while you are working on it. My trainer has a 8 month old and while she isn't back to her pre-pregnancy BF% (which was crazy low), she is *almost back lifting her pre-pregnancy max weights. From what I can tell it really helps her motivation!0 -
Look into a postpartum girdle/corset. They help a lot with 'tightening up' the abdominal region after all the stretching down there (they/abdominal binding seem pretty ubiquitous outside of the US... IDK why no one does it here).
Breast feeding is basically nature's way of getting rid of all the fat you gain while pregnant (you burn something like 300-500 calories worth of fat per week breastfeeding). It's also great for your baby.
Otherwise, good diet high in protein, caloric deficit (should eat at least 1800 calories/day if breast feeding, and increase if milk production is compromised), and good resistance training regimen is the way to go. I would avoid intense cardio, and stick with LISS stuff (walking, slow elliptical, etc.) if you are breast feeding, as the elevated estrogen levels will make you more prone to loss of lean body mass, and because they are superior for fat loss in general.0 -

Second good rule of thumb, its hard to call bs on someone who provides proven data. Btw, any chance you have track your bodyfat and weight during your weightloss and then tried only strength training only? Because i have done this with other women on this board. In fact, i had a 5'4", 36 year old women eating 2100 on the four lifting days and 1800 on the three resting day and she lost 4% body fat in 12 weeks. She lost 6 lbs of fat.
I am also speaking from personal expirence. So if you havent tried onlu strenght training vs onlu strength training vs a combo of both, how do you know what works best?
I am just sayin0 -
I've been running a lot, which has helped drop a lot of weight. I actually weigh less than before I was pregnant with boy #1 and boy #2 isn't a year old yet.
I've finally been adding weight lifting back in. I had done it up until like 8 months pregnant and just never got back to it. But I am now and it helps. I still have some "baby gush" but I can feel some good abs coming back underneath, because even though I was neglecting weights, I do a lot of pushups and planks.0
