WOW YOU GUYS ARE MAKING ME ALL EMOTIONAL!
I've read through all and we all have something in common. Dedication. We are here to fix the pain we've felt from the comments of others and from the lack of confidence for ourselves. We are ready to change, we have been and we will continue! I love that I am not alone in this!
My moment came when I weighed in at 198lbs, on a 5"1' frame. The moment also came when my doctor told me i had Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. I am 24 years old and I was diagnosed with a condition because of my eating/weight! I was shocked. My numbers were insane! The doctor told me that its as if I had been drinking alcohol my entire life! If I did not change I would need a liver biopsy and possibly a transplant. I was heart broken. I was shocked and hurt that i had allowed myself to get to this point.
So i decided to see a health coach who directed me here. Now i am actively trying to lose weight and be healthy and i officially have lowered my numbers and my liver condition has gone away! Currently I am just dealing with a hypothyroidism.
This picture also gave me a big wake up call.
This is me currently at 159lbs

I gained a bunch of weight last summer (working in fast food no bueno) and just expected it to fall off once I got to school and rode my bike everyday and ate like a normal person. So when I weighed myself in Feb, I thought I had lost. Nope, gained about 10 more pounds! Terrifying for someone who has been at a stable weight most of my life.0

Medical reasons here. I was always overweight and never believed that I would be anything different. My parents were big and I just accepted it as "my life". I didn't know a thing about nutrition (nor did I care) and I resented people who were active and healthy.
I will forever be grateful for having gotten so sick. I was hospitalized, released from the hospital, thought I was well, went back to work and was still too ill to work - Dr's ordered me to take time off. I was only 32 years old. It scared the crap out of me and I realized I could not live a life as a person too sick to hold a job. It was the biggest wake up call ever. I was forced into making changes to my diet, and learn stress management and self care if I wanted to have a life.
That was 3 years ago in June. I've kept off 50 pounds and created a life I love. I won't give it up for anything!0 -
Extremely tired, Type 2 Diabetes, Thyroid issue, and Blood Pressure. I just developed these in the last couple of years and my doctor is confident with weight loss the medications will go away and I can't wait for that day. I am struggling a lot with staying on track but definately not giving up.0

I just was in denial over pictures... I just refused to be in them or see myself in them if I had to be in it.
My moment of "WTF" was when I was at work, and one of our patients <an elderly man> came in and asked if So and so was in today. He couldn't remember my name....but he said as I walked up "Oh her! The husky one! I like her !"
Husky. He called me husky
I went home that night and cried, knowing it was true and I had to face the fact that I was not "just a little heavy" but "fat". I know he didn't mean to be mean, elderly people have a brutal honesty sometimes like children do but this time it really hit me. I will be indebted to him for opening my eyes...although I wish it had been in a different way.0 -
Funny but true: January of 2010, I was 182lbs at 5'7". That may not sound like much but I looked and felt horrible. Then I had what I thought was a heart attack. Went to the doctor and took all kinds of tests that came back normal. Then the doc looks at me and says, "Michael, you have gas." Well, gas or not, I was determined to get back in shape after that. I haven't looked back since.0

My WTF moment was when I looked at pictures of myself from my 20th birthday. I stood facing the side, and the camera caught a nasty angle! I was not happy, and could not find one picture that I liked from that night. Since then, I have been avoiding cameras at all costs! Can't wait to lose weight, and be happy in my own skin again, and camera happy!0

My wft moment was when I went to get my fishing license last summer and the b**** behind the counter asked my weight, I told her but lied by like 30lbs and she laughed in my face and said "if you say so"0

It was a picture I saw of myself Christmas 2011. I knew I was way overweight but hadn't really thought about it. After seeing that picture and thinking of what my life had become it was time. A friend had told me about MFP and I decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did. Now 37lbs lighter I am still working toward my goal.0

realizing that I had a closet and armoire packed FULL of clothes that my fat butt couldnt fit into and crying on the floor because I had nothing to wear. Now most of my stuff is too big... sort of the same problem but a "better" one.0

When my doctor told me my cholesterol was slightly elevated & I'm only 30 years old!!!!! Since it runs in my family I have a greater chance of it happening to me & I REFUSE!!! I also suffer from migraine headaches & exercise helps tremendously! If that wasn't enough, I seen a picture of my arms & knew I had to get this weight OFF!! LOL It is not a good look!!! :frown:0

Couldn't move, couldn't breathe, couldn't stand looking at myself or feeling so bad all the time. I wore yoga pants all the time but then went to put on a pair of my fat jeans (size 22) and couldn't get them over my thighs..... OMG panic stricken but sucked it up and got to work.0

I've been overweight most of my life and I'm just tried of it when I lost weight the first time I felt amazing had so much energy. That was when I went from 250 to 160 just by walking everywhere...no change in food. However once winter hit I gain 30 lbs and then I got it down to 170 by running again...however I got a help desk job working the grave-yard shift and got back to 180 in 3 months. No more I will lose all my weight and become a better person.0

Mine was when I saw THIS photo of myself, sure I wasn't "huge" but I was extremely uncomfortable. So, when I saw this, I was like, well no wonder!

Mine was few things. I have struggled with my weight most of my life. This year I turned 53 and got up on my birthday and looked in the mirroe and decided I hated looking at the fat woman in the mirror. Then when I went to DR my blood work came bake awful, cholestrol was up, Blood pressure was up and so was insulin/sugar. My Dr assured me I was not diabetic and the reason for all this was my weight. I was told to Exercise and get on a healthier eating plan. So I did and as a result I am down 18 lbs and still going strong. Last visit to Dr. blood work was excellent.0

Gail you look great. Good job on the weight loss!0

When birds started nesting in my underpants on the washing line, I knew I was overweight!...sorry only joking!
I've been overweight and unfit for many years now due to health problems, I've kept telling myself that I can't do much about it because I have mobility problems and that compared to others I was doing OK.......them my friend had an operation which went wrong and she has ended up in a wheelchair and it may be for life (she's 44 and has 2 lads).....that was 7 months ago just days before Christmas.
After 4 months in hospital she's came out determind to go back to work and do everything she can....at the moment she still needs someone to drive her around and to help get the wheelchair in/out of the car but she is already self propelling. Her husband does everything he can and takes her to physio 3 times a week, but she wanted to go to the gym and that was the wtf moment for me.....I wanted to take her, but trying to lift the wheelchair into my car was so painful for my back.....anyway I started to loose weight, have been building up my strengh, and she was able to get a lighter wheelchair which comes to bits....we've both been going to the gym now for 4 weeks, and I try and go on another day when she is at physio.0 -
When 3 doctors strongly suggested I get on a diet and exercise program. Also watching TV and finding out I weighed as much as a Professional Football player!0
