whoops, I meant "Mark's" Daily Apple!
Glad to hear others who've had success with it too. I've never heard anyone who hasn't had good results. The only naysayers seems to be people who won't give up carbs and don't realize you can still have them- just a smaller amount.
My cholesterol went down 30pts after losing the first 10lbs I get it checked again in Aug. and since I've lost another 10lbs and I'm at 108lbs I'm not really worried
Thanks for all the encouragement!0 -
My issue is eliminating the carbs....I switched from white bread, rice, and pasta to wheat but I still cant budge these last ten pounds. I want to drop carbs completely except for what I get in my fruits and veggies......its just so hard b/c if its there I want it especially when the hubby is home b/c hes a HUGE carb eater......0

My experience is similar. Started journaling my calories in mid-January as a vegetarian. I ate BMR but was consuming over 200g of carbs (all whole grain, fruits, veggies). I did an hour of cardio 6 days per week. By mid-April, I had lost 5 lbs. After much research I decided to go primal. Since then I have lost 26 lbs, still eating at BMR, but keeping carbs under 80g (doubled my protein too). Also, I cut back on cardio - Jillian Michaels and running mostly.. Low carb is the key for me.I wish everyone were as positive about lower carb as you are! I made that same discovery myself almost 2 months ago...
I followed the MFP suggested macros for 3 months, worked out for 90 minutes 3-4x a week ( 65 cardio, 25 strength) and barely managed to lose 7 pounds. As a matter of fact, I spent 2 months losing and gaining the same 3 pounds! Then I decided to try to cut carbs since I lost weight that way so easily when I was diagnosed with IR in '04. The first week I lost 4.8lbs..and since then I have lost an average of 1.3 pounds every.single.week!
So eating whatever I wanted as long as it fit within my calorie goal, I lost 7 pounds in 3 months...but by cutting my carbs down to 100g NET per day, I am losing 7 pounds per MONTH. How horrible is a diet where I naturally eat lower calorie foods to the point where I *have* to eat a FiberOne brownie with 2T of peanut butter on top for a bedtime snack? Yup, my calories are so low, I have snack like that to boost my net calories!
ETA: the funniest thing? My 90 minute workouts are no more...I was having too much trouble keeping my net intake up, so I cut my cardio down to 35 minutes, and I'm STILL losing at the same rate!0 -

Bump - something to consider...0

I consume 320-340 grams of carbs a day and am still losing weight, could not imagine life without carbs or low carbs... but if it works for you great..... Best of Luck on your journey....0

Pretty sure I can cut my carbs down to 100g but how do I get my protein up to 100g?
I am *SUPPOSE* to be eating 1200 calories before exercise but I am actually getting more in the 1000-1100 range.
Suggestions?0 -
I have been following the anabolic diet for 3 1/2 months. It makes it a lot easier to stick with the low carb thing. Low carb Monday through Friday (less than 30g), then pretty much whatever you want on the weekend. I have consistantly lost a pound a week and have not felt this great in years. I will be having blood work next week to check cholesterol.0

I have high cholesterol too and on meds for it, but want to change the way I eat instead of having to take the meds. I bought the clean eating book a few months ago....think I am going to get serious and start changing my ways. I am tired of processed foods....just feel blah after eating like that.0

My nephew who had increased cholesterol, diabetes 2, hypertension and several other things creep up on him due to weight, also went on the primal diet and it was amazing how fast he lost weight. He looks amazing and his doctor has taken him off all the meds they had him on.0

It' NOT an easier way for people to lose weight who like to actually eat foods that are CULTURALLY high in carbs, fat and sugar. Unless this is an eating plan you want to stick with the REST OF YOUR LIFE, then the weight loss may be just temporary. Introducing any sugar or carbs back into the diet would more than likely also increase weight.
Easiest way to lose weight is to eat a way you can do the rest of your life at a calorie deficit.

Dunno about the rest, but I find success just trying to get my 100-150g protein. The carb part works itself out. As long as I make it a point to get enough protein and hit my calorie mark, I feel better and lose weight. It's the simple version, I suppose.0

Easier for you maybe. But there's not one way to lose weight.
I eat between 160-250 carbs every day, I don't eat clean, and am losing just fine and am quite healthy.0 -

THIS SO MUCH!! This guy is hella smart.0 -
You eat all that fatty meat and protein and your blood work will skyrocket. Your body needs carbs! The Good kind from fruits and veggies
I have been on the 80/10/10 for almost 8 weeks. I use to be a big meat eater the lowfat meats. I was finding that is was not working for weight loss or how i felt physically. Siince I have been doing Low Fat Raw Vegan I have lost another 5 lbs of Fat not muscle. I have more enegry then every before. I can go longer and harder and recover faster. I thought i was at the top of my game but i am finding there is more ladder to climb0 -
PS my Carb total from yesterday on all fruits and veggies 475g Not gaining weight0

Do me a favor and don't "friend" me until you've tried it for a week...0

I can lose doing either way (higher carb, lower cal etc) or (Lower carb, higher fat), which ever one works for you, more power to ya, I found that after doing Lower carb for 2 years I just couldnt do it anymore. I find that higher carb, lower calorie may work slower, but in the end is better for me, good luck to all of you that do this0

it works for me to...weight loss really is "easy" when you follow this lifestyle!0

Carbohydrate is horrible for your health. It is a commonmisconception that it is needed for energy. However, if you have a diet very low carb and high fat, then your body turns to ketosis. Ketosisis when the body burns fat for energy. You will lose weight quickly, and many many other health aspects will improve. There is so much research out there if you know where to look.0

I totally agree with you, I started eating clean as of 6/24/2012, and as of this morning I have dropped 4 pounds, the first 3 days were the hardest. But once you get over that, it has been free sailing, I even think I have my dad on board, who wants to lose weight, lol.0

"Where to look" for medical research is not someone's blog. It's also not PubMed, unless you have a whole lot of free time to read through hundreds upon hundreds of pages of scietific research and peer review analysis. Because if you don't read it all, or if you are not capable of understanding the compicated medical language, you are not getting the whole picture.
Carbohydrates are not horrible for health. It's extremely difficult to maintain health without fruits and vegetables, and they have carbohydrates. And there is plenty of scientific evidence that minimally processed whole grains improve health.
Your best bet to learn about nutrition is to listen to the recommendations of those in the field of nutrition science, as they do have the time and knowledge to read and understand all the studies. And they are not a mission to sell books or specific diets.
If you want to follow a Paleo, Primal or whatever diet, that is your choice, but don't spout nonsense like "carbohydrates are horrible for your health". How can you expect to be taken seriously when you say something like that?0 -

I love this thread!! I have been struggling to break through my plateau even with extremely good eating! I was eating everything that was good for me, but I still implemented a lot of wheat, bread, and pastas (my weakness!!). Finally, I got fed up with not seeing any progress even when I would strength train three times a week and run about 4 miles 5 days a week. I LOST NOTHING. So I cut carbs big time. I just started Monday and I feel AMAZING and I've lost about 5 lbs! I upped my protein and I'm already seeing a significant change in my body!!! Thank you for posting this!!0
