High Protein diet

I've recently changed my macros to get 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat daily. I'm finding that I'm struggling to keep the carbs down and get the protein up. I eat a lot of veg and very little pasta/rice/bread etc (I know my diary is locked but I'm after more specific advice)
What I was wanting to know is if any of you can recommend a good cook book for recipes high in protein, that are nice to eat and don't have ingredients list as long as your arm. I will eat anything, suppose that was part of my original problem  :drinker:

Just buy a ton of chicken breasts and eggs. That's where I get most of my protein from.
With chicken, I usually cover it in bread crumbs and season it with garlic powder and some herbs. Really juicy and has so much flavor. Or I have it roasted at least once a week with a roast dinner. We've also marinated chicken legs in a BBQ and Honey Sauce and put them on the Barbeque. Bits of Chicken Breast on Wraps or Sandwiches.
With eggs, scrambled, boiled, in an omelette and can be added to any meal.0 -
I really do LOVE chicken and eggs but they get pretty dull after a while regardless of how you dress them up lol saying that, I could eat omlettes every day till I die and be relatively happy0

Prawns r super low cal and lots of protein? I mixed some with a bit of spicy season all and low fat creme fraiche on a jacket potato, v tasty, 4 ingredients!0

shrimp and chicken are both high in protein. I also use greek yogurt to up my protein count. I eat it with fruit, or I use it in place of anything that needs mayo. Works just as well, lower in cals and a great protein source.0

i don't recommend this ACTUAL diet but the doukan (sp?) diet has some great high protein low carb recipes.
eta: i made pancakes for breakfast this morning that had 50g of protein and 13ish carbs, and it was yummy. just do some googling0 -

If your not eating much grains then where are all these carbs coming from?
In answer to your question, eggs/fish/turkey/chicken/steak.....eat more of those plus a protein shake can be handy from time to time.0 -
egg whites, chicken, salmon, nuts, natural pnut butter, steak...think one ingredient foods, and you can eat a TON of egg whites for very little calories with tons of protein. greek yogurt ....(I dont like it, but lots of people do).....egg whites and wild salmon are what I eat the most of for protein.0

Some protein heavy things I love:
Tuna salad -- canned tuna with cottage cheese, a little mayo, walnuts and some dried cranberries.
Scrambled eggs with a deli turkey slice cut up, a bit of cheddar cheese, onion, mushrooms and spinach, and guacamole or avocado on the side. And BACON!
Chicken breast marinated in Bone Suckin' Sauce and thrown on the grill.
Grilled salmon on a bed of greens, with sesame dressing.
Oh, also using half regular eggs and half egg whites in a scramble.
Burgers made with ground bison (buffalo), onions, and bbq sauce. No bun.
A cup of Stonyfield Farm vanilla greek yogurt with two tablespoons of Udi's Vanilla Granola, and a dash of Vietnamese cinnamon mixed in.
Milk and kefir are both good drinkable sources of protein.
Protein shake with your favorite protein powder, vanilla kefir, Vietnamese cinnamon, and ice.0 -
Thanks guys all great suggestions. I was thinking about having a look at them dukan diet, although I don't want a diet in the real sense just a few ideas0

People looking for increasing their protein intake frequently forget about beans. Beans are even lower in fat and cholesterol than chicken and eggs and can help break up the monotony of chicken/broccoli, chicken/rice etc. I'm like you, I get so tired of chicken - It finally got to a point where I was avoiding it because I was so burned out.
I love veggie and bean salads (Black beans, pinto beans, kidney beans, black eyed peas etc....) with fat free italian dressing. Here's a recipe - leave out the jalapenos if you don't like spicy : http://allrecipes.com/recipe/texas-caviar-i/.
If I'm very short on time and can't actually sit to enjoy a meal I'll make a quick pot of mexican rice with a can of black beans and corn mixed in, wrap it up in a whole wheat tortilla and walk out the door!
Also these veggie turkey balls have a good amount of protein in them, and are delicious! : http://allrecipes.com/recipe/turkey-veggie-meatloaf-cups/detail.aspx?event8=1&prop24=SR_Thumb&e11=turkey veggie meatloaf&e8=Quick Search&event10=1&e7=Recipe.
Here's our favorite Pork Chop recipe (great in protein, and it's a weight watchers recipe so it's very healthy) - Again, leave out the jalapenos if you don't like spicy - http://www.weightwatchers.com/food/rcp/RecipePage.aspx?recipeid=130231
A great website to just browse is AllRecipes.com - they have recipes for all sorts of different meal types - low fat, vegetarian, mexican, etc... It's where we find most of our recipes weekly because I HATE cooking the same old thing over and over!! Most of the time you can make alterations based on your calorie-intake preference - for example, I usually leave out sour cream, or replace regular cheese with low fat cheese, etc..
Hope this helps! Good luck!!0 -
Fantastic info everyone. I'm so glad I decided to ask. I'll be spending some time looking some of these sites up tomorrow0

If you eat cereal try a mix of a low sugar flake cereal with a wholegrain muesli (low sugar) and add a scoop of protein powder - total is around 400 cals but high protein and low GI - I work afternoons and keeps me going. Same goes for wholegrain porridge with a scoop of protein0

Mary does an excellent job in incorporating protein into every recipe; she eats alot of veggies.
I do simple things.. like no creamer in my coffee, but protein powder instead. My diary is open if you want to peak. I have my macros set to 40%-protein - 35%-carbs- 25%-fat. I have been sick the last few days, so go back a week or so.
Good luck to you!!
Remember ... "If you think you can, you're right! If you think you can't, you're also right!" - Henry Ford
Edit- I have tried a few things; my favorite so far as a treat = NO BAKE BARS. OMG- they are just like the cookies- no bake. I don't use the milk, instead I add more protein by using one scoop of vanailla powder + 8oz water. Makes them gooeyer.0 -
