Homemade low-calorie protein bars

Hi,

I'm looking for a recipe for homemade low-calorie protein bars, preferably chocolate flavour since my powder is choccy flavour and around or less than 100kcal per bar.

I found this recipe on the internet which looked good - http://thefitcookie.com/2012/03/05/fudgy-chocolate-protein-bars/ - and the bars are apparantly 99kcal each when you divide the mixture into 6. But when I put it into the MFP recipe builder using the ingredients I'd be using (including making an allowance for the different scoop sizes of my protein powder and the one she used) it came out at close to 200 calories per bar. The oats alone added up to 600 calories.

Is there a way to lessen the amount of calories in the recipe?

Alternatively, does anyone know of a similar recipe around 100 calories per bar?

Thanks!

  • I like this low-cal one: http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?recipe=1688696

    Ingredients are:
    Oat flour, 0.5 cup
    Protein Powder - Vanilla - 1 Scoop, 1 serving
    Salt, .13 tsp
    Baking Powder, .25 tsp
Splenda No Calorie Sweetener, 1/4 cup
    egg white, fresh, 2 large
    1/4 cup water
    Applesauce, unsweetened, .5 cup
    Lemon Juice, 1 lemon yields
Crystal Light Natural Lemonade, .5 serving
    Zest 1 lemon (optional)

You can always substitute the Crystal Light for a sugar free Jell-o pudding mix, and lemon juice for water/almond milk.

I'm a chocolate fan too-- was thinking of trying PB2 or cocoa powder instead of crystal light, and just using water instead of lemon juice. I hear this flavor is really good, though.

  • New recipe for homemade protein bars:
Cal: 62.4 fat 4.0 carbs:8 -per square MAKE SURE TO CUT INTO 16 SQUARES
    Recipe:
    3/4 of a banana
    1/4 tsp allspice original
1/2 grated apple (Medium sized apple)
    1/2 cup coconut oil
    1/2 cup flour
    1/2 cup low-fat milk/almond milk
    1/4 cup of stevia (raw)
    3 egg whites

Now here's what you do once you get all that together. You pretty much mix the fluids with the fluids and the rest in 2 different bowls. This way the mixture doesn't get to sticky or it's easier to stir and so on. So! Down to the recipe

Recipe: spray a 8x8 tin foiled pan. Get a bowl and start putting in the solids
    -3/4 banana
    -1/4 tsp allspice
    -1/2 cup flour
-1/2 apple grated (big holed side)
    -1/2 cup stevia (raw)
    -3 egg whites

Now take a separate bowl and mix the liquids
    -1/2 cup low-fat milk/almond milk
    -1/2 cup coconut oil

Take a bowl and dump it into the 1 whole. Stir it up quickly then put it in the oven for 350 degrees for 25mins-30mins keep It in there for 30 if you want to keep it crusty.
Put ontop of stove table or counter let it settle for 30 minutes then cut it. You may eat your 16 squares of delicious protein :) if your trying to lose weight take it 60 mins before your workout for extra muscle burning and to trim faster or eat 1:30 hrs before bed if you want to fill yourself up thanks guys for reading and making my protein bars and I hope I helped I'll make another in a day
