Do you log Miscellaneous Exerises?

I have my setting set to Sedentary daily activity due to my desk job. I usually only log exercises such as running or lifting.

However, I golfed yesterday while walking and carrying clubs for 3 hours. That has to be a pretty significant calorie burn? Should I log that exercise? I also coach baseball and throwing 25 min of Batting Practice is a pretty good burn as well as fungoes, baserunning drills, etc. I never log these either.

Anyway, here is the dilemma: I had a 1,000+ calorie burn from morning workout, then golfed for three hours (which I did log yesterday to see how this would work). MFP told me I needed to eat 4,100 calories to maintain. That seems like a lot. I guess my fear is that I am not eating enough because I don't log these msc exercises.

How does everyone else do this?

One option is to find out your calorie amount for active and then eat to that on the days you have training.

I pitch BP in softball and I actually find it HARDER than a game. A game I pitch maybe 20-25 pitches in a row then have a rest. BP I'm pitching non-stop and can throw triple the amount in 30 minutes than I do in a normal game. I definitely log that.

I would log it, as it is the set up of the MFP system. About eating back the calories, well, you could eat them back, or not, or eat some of them back, its up to you, everyone has a differing opinion, perhaps see how you feel that day, how hungry you feel....if it becomes more regular then you should probably change your activity levels.

For me, you know my situation is different I am absurd with my metabolism, and have to eat back every thing, but I also have my self on the highest levels of everything, and only log stuff when it has really been outside my average day, then I eat back every crumb! ;)

Yes, log in things like that at your own discretion.
I would guess that kind of golf would burn 300 calories per hour.
It's kind of like logging in cleaning.
Be careful when you do and don't kid yourself.
    Good Luck!

there is no perfect answer to this. you have to go by feel, and if you are hungry, you need to eat.

It truely depends on what it is that I do. Everything that you do burns calories. If I feel that I am not eating enough after the fact that of burning the calories then I will log them to see where I am. For the most part I do not eat back the calories unless it is like I said going into the negative net. That is the only reason I do log them.
  • that i do-- (i also consider myself "Sedentary" so if I didn't count it i'd be really underestimating).

    walking to/from work
all of the cumulative minutes walking to/from restroom and up/down floors
    cleaning

I just eat normally when I go 'crazy over' my exercise calories. Before I broke my foot I'd jog, bike, swim, work in my garden and maybe even push mow an hour or two so I'd have the same problem. In the summer, we just get more exercise and it's a good thing! If I get hungry, I'll eat. I guarantee by the next morning you will be starving and make up for some of it. That's the case for me! It wont hurt you as long as you don't have a huge deficit everyday. Enjoy your golfing!

i don't log miscellaneous exercise nor do I rely on mfp to tell me what to eat. When I was relying on mfp I would log every single thing I did including walking the dog because I was ravenous, but after bumping up my calories using the calculations at fat2fitradio.com I keep my non exercise days around 1700-1900 and my exercise days from 1900-2200. Not sure if that helps you, but it does help me. I like to have enough nutrition on rest days to allow my body the proper fuel to repair itself and enough fuel when I'm exercising to power through my workouts. I don't log my stronglifts (weight lifting) under cardio either just under strength exercise. What I have found is that you have to find something that works for you and be prepared to adjust it accordingly when it no longer works.

I don't log anything that I didn't do for the sole purpose of exercise, even if it might have burned a significant amount of calories. I just consider it a bonus.

Really good question. It seems like if your activity level is sedentary you should definitely log that kind of thing (and walking and carrying golf bags for 3 hours seems like it would burn some serious calories). If your activity level is set to active, then probably not. I think it's similar to whether you would log something like cleaning and gardening--those activities do burn calories but they're different than working out. If set your activity level to active, the MFP algorithm is probably already including that kind of thing--assuming that you don't just sit on your butt all day long. I only log running and weight lifting because my activity level is active. I think not logging stuff that I might do above and beyond helps balance out the days I do less.

I would log it. I always forget to log stuff like sweeping my bus (I'm a school bus driver) or cleaning or whatever lol
