Based on the advice I've seen given in these forums... I hope no one. These forums are filled with fake science and bad ideas. Good for you for going out and getting a real education on the matter. Hopefully, you can straighten some of these people out. :)

You know what's funny, someone in another thread said they wouldn't taken my advice because I'm only a student, then gave me her own opinion on the matter. Lol. But whatever. There are a lot of misconceptions about health and nutrition and I hope I am able to do a lot of good in this field by helping out others who are struggling.

Happy to see you get a quality education. You know they cured every disease including cancer many decades ago, using nutrition

and vitamins! Have a look. doctoryourself.com

It's pretty crazy how much nutrition ties in to virtually every disease. A lot of people don't realize that! I had a really interesting lecture about nutritional genomics and cancer in one of my classes, would love to study that some more. I'm definitely interested in a more holistic approach to health and would love to teach people about how to take control of their health by changing their diet rather than just resorting to medications. A lot of people with type 2 diabetes think they can take their insulin and still eat like crap and it breaks my heart. Proper nutrition is so so important!

I am a registered dietitian and will have been in practice 5 years this coming October. I can honestly say it has been one of the most rewarding decisions of my life. I work with patients in a medical center, helping them to manage chronic disease and teach future dietitians/nutrition students at a local college. Empowering others with such valuable knowledge is mutualy rewarding. I'm just one person, but I'm trying to help people lead healthier lives as well as dispel some of the ludicrous myths and preconceived notions out there.

Good luck with Your RD exam and future career!

I have a BS in dietetics and institutional food mgmt. at wku in bowling green, KY, I graduated in the dark ages (1992) started in 1986. back then believe it or not they were stilll saying white bread was ok etc. I was the first vegetarian ever to go thru their program too. In 1992 there were very few places to do internships. I had started a healthfood store witha friend wjile in my last few yrs of school.(part of the reason it took me 6 yrs to graduate.) There were no internships in the town i lived in. the nearest one being nashville. The store was successful so i stuck with it till dec. 1999. i taught alot of cooking classes and nutirition ed.

In 2002 i moved to greenville sc to start an internship done with SC school of public health in columbia. it was the only one in which you could work at the same time as the internship in the US. there was about 20 of us wemet in Columbia for regular classses for about 2 weeks, and then each of us were placed in different cities for the rotations. i was in greennville. We were only allowed to work 20 hrs a week. My husband lost his job a few month after i started so i had to work more often and because i was in the middle of the hospital part , it was too much, as i was 47 yrs old, and i had to eb at the hispital at 6:00 am, then do stuff there till 2:00, then worked as asst mgr in vitamin dept of a healthfood store andw ork till 9 or 10 at night.

needless to say i dint finish:{. I woldnt reccomemend working and doing an internshi. at the time it sounded good as i didnt want to take out mmore student loans. since then ive worked at a health department as wic nutritioni educator. I loved it.

Im 57 now and am not working at all. Ive also gaied alot of weight
I wish the best to you! so were dit u do your internship? and did u passs the exam?

Lets be friends on here too

That would be me, would love to have the fellowships of others interested or active in the field. I am just starting out on a second Bachelors, thought I wanted to become a nurse, but when I took the Intro to Nutrition class, I realized that diabetic education would really be a natural extension of my teaching career (I'm currently a middle school foreign language teacher). So I'm training for something down the road in a few years, hopefully!
