How funny! Here goes. I'm from southeastern Kentucky .... It's pop. Moved to New York in my late 20s .... Learned to say soda. I'd go back home and when I'd say soda ...I was called "citified". I've lived in Arizona, Ohio, Missouri, and have straddled the borders of Ohio and Tennessee from the KYside since moving from New York in the mid-90s and have never heard anything but soda.

Hmmmmm. What happened to pop ??

It was pop on the west coast where I grew up, and is still pop in Saskatchewan. But I know that I've gotten funny looks in a number of the southern states when I've asked for pop, rather than soda.

Wow! Such controversy! Here I go, adding another one to the mix. I'm from Australia and here we call it either fizzy drink or soft drink.

soda because that's what we call it in CA...but now, that I live in IL, I'm surrounded by all this "pop" nonsense. It's soda.

Born and raised in good old Louisiana. It's all called Coke...even if you're drinking Diet Dr Pepper, which is by far the BEST. When I was little and we used to go to Burger Chef, when you ordered a coke they would ask you what kind...to which you would reply Coke coke (if you wanted Coca Cola) or you would say orange, purple, Dr Pepper, Pepsi...etc.

I'm an army brat who moved around while growing up, it was always coke (no matter what it was) or soda until I moved to Wisconsin, now it's pop. They also call drinking fountains "bubblers" and they "itch a scratch", instead of "scratch an itch"...that one drives me crazy! :)
  • i say sody pop or pop. soda sounds so foreign. lol

Pop in the Midwest. Soda on the West Coast. Bad whatever you call it everywhere.

It depends on what part of the country (US) you live in. I've lived on the east coast, west coast, midwest, and south, and heard it called so many different things.
