hey girls...I have PCOS with insulin resistance. it's been a hell of ride trying to lose all the weight I need to lose...I have restricted my calories, am eating healthy following my nutritionist's guidelines, eliminated refined carbs, limited my complex carbs, I exercise daily for at least an hour and while I've seen some success I feel like the weight is coming off at a snail's pace. soooo my question for all of you is what types of supplements are you taking? I'm trying to avoid taking metformin and would much rather go the natural way. I've read about supplements such as inositol, choline, chromium picolinate, vitex, and cinnamon helping with insulin resistance and weight loss. I would appreciate any info you could share with me! if you're taking any of these, how much you're taking, how well they've worked....whatever you have to offer I would love to hear! thanks

I give you alot of credit for attacking this ***** naturally and it sounds like you are doing what you need to. I'm on the metformin route and have been for the past 8 years (although only the past 3 years I've been serious about it). Metformin isn't for everyone - but for me, it allowed me to have two gorgeous kids, my cholesterol is way under control and I'm back losing weight. Changing up eating habits and adding exercise are key!0

I have PCOS also. I have been following a strict diet and working out a lot also. I just started taking a Super B complex vitamin and been taking the Cinnamon also... I have considered going back on the metformin, but I don't like to take anything unnatural if I don't have to. I also suffer from bipolar disorder and since I have cut out processed foods and started working out my moods have really improved and I have finally been losing weight. I know it is difficult. If you would like, you can add me as a friend!0

I wish I could help, but I've been on metformin for 8 years. It was rough taking it at first. My body is so used to having it that I gain 5 lbs in a week without it. I take iron, and a Vit B 12 complex. I'm not even sure my husband would support me getting off of it if I wanted to. His greatest fear is I become diabetic.0

I was put on metformin for PCOS, but I stopped taking it because I truly hate taking pills. I even have a difficult time taking a multivitamin every single day. I'm currently not on metformin and wasn't exercising regularly when I was on it. I'm going to try on my own for a little while and see if anything changes. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful! Kudos to you for taking charge!0

What has worked for me was
1: going off of metforming. It gave me IBS symptoms, reallllly bad.
2: eating low carb and increasing protein.
3: CLA supplements.
4: exercising when I can.
You just have to find what fits in your lifestyle. When weight comes off slowly, its better for you.
Good luck! I'm struggling right now too! Ice cream keeps calling my name this summer! Ack! :ohwell:0 -
