I am so close to hitting my first goal only 6 pounds!!! i am trying to achieve this before August 19th, i know this is a realistic goal but am having a hard time getting there. I hit the gym 5 days a week ( 5 days cardio with 3 days strength training) and try and stay around 1300 cals a day. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get me out of this plateau, i would love the advice and support :)

You really need more kcal and have at least one day of rest per week. Your body is in overload mode.
  • try eating just a little bit more. It really works with my mom and I when we are stuck for a while. Just up it by 300 cals or so

Definitely more calories, preferably of the protein variety.

I know it goes against what you think, but every time this past year I hit a plateau, I upped my calories by a small amount - maybe 10% - and increased cardio a bit, and started losing again.

try to eat more...i didn't believe it until i upped my calories from 1200 to 1700 (did it two hundred calories/wk and lost my last few). the little boost helped with my energy too!

here is a great blog about it...

Increase calorie intae. Reduce carbs, add more protein. No need for all that cardio btw.

Try mixing up your exercise routine a bit, that helped me to shed a few pounds.

I think everyone's first instinct on MFP is to claim you need to be eating more calories, but that isn't necessarily the case. Do you use itunes? Jillian Michaels has a really good podcast (I believe it's called "The Jillian Michaels Show") about plateauing (I don't remember what number it is, but it will be in the description), that gives lots of reasons that plateauing appears to happen and what you can do about it.

Are you losing slowly or nothing at all? And if nothing at all, then for how long?

Agreed. More calories will the ticket. With your activity level, you are probably netting less than 1200 calories a day. This puts your body into starvation mode. You are eating enough to sustain an active life style, but, your body will continue to store just as much as it burns, a.k.a., a plateau.

Just add a meal to your day, or, have a little more with each meal. I know how hard it can be to add calories to your daily diet. I have to hit 3200 net calories a day and it's a challenge to do it the right way. If I dip below just a few hundred calories a day through the week, I stall as well.

If anything, when you find it difficult to add those "extra" calories, pre make your food at the start of the week. I just got done grilling 15 chicken breasts and I have no idea how many cups of pasta. I cook frozen veggies in the morning and put them in my meal container before I go to work. The warm veggies add some moisture to the chicken and pasta after it's been in the fridge.

There's no doubt you can reach your goal. Find a few more calories a day and you'll be there with time to spare!

According to the nutristionist I see, the answer is usually more calories, make them protein and use FIT with regards to exercise...

    Frequency Intensity Time = FIT.

Make sure you are getting lots of water and fiber as well.

Lastly, try to measure, sometimes you lose inches and not pounds. You burning fat and building lean muscle and that should be the real goal!!!

    Best of Luck!

I had a plateau having about 1400 cals a day, but then I increased my calorie intake to about 1800 keeping the same workout schedule and lost weight. Then after about I week of doing this, I went down to 1600 cals and burned about 300 more cals a day (did this for a week). That took care of the plateau!

I see others have already touched on this but I am going to add..

Eat at maintenance for a week, then go back to your deficit.
