My first non-scale victories (NSV's)

I meant to post this last week, so here goes:
Last week when I measured it was four weeks into C25K, my resting heart rate has dropped from 100 BPM to 68 BPM. I've lost:
1 inch in my neck
3 1/2 inches in my waist
3 inches in my hips
Success is measured not just in pounds, but in every inch lost and every beat your heart doesn't have to pump just to keep you alive.

Congrats! Thats a great accomplishment and a significant difference in resting heart rate. Your stroke volume must be way up! I agree that inches lost is a way more satisfying number than pounds, keep up the good work0

Great work!!! It's great to see someone recognize the importance of inches over weight. I've only lost 4 pounds, but many, many inches!0

I Googled stroke volume, I hadn't thought about that since college- had to refresh my memory. How do I keep it up, just continue doing the same- running, walking, eating right?0 -
awesome!! During my journey I am looking at more healthy NSVs that don't include weight loss. I know that as I get healthier, the weight will come. Again, Great Job! Keep it up and don't you just love C25k0

Yup! Cardiovascular exercise is the best way to increase stroke volume. Generally what happens when someone becomes more fit (cardio), their resting heart rate decreases, and their stroke volume increases (more blood pumped per heart beat). The overall output of blood from your heart = HR * SV. So your resting cardiac output will always remain about the same, but your heart will become much more effecient at pumping the blood!0
