Woman: Have you had issues with TOM...

....since dieting and exercising?

HELP! I am 27 years old, I have been on birth control (the pill) for many years and the most recent I am is Seasonale ( you get your period 4 times a year) probably a good 6 years or so. I have never had an issue with it. Within the last 3 months I have had breakthrough bleeding/spotting on and off. It is annoying and yes I have taken many pregnancy test all negative. I have contacted my doctor and last month she told me to wait it out until my yearly appt and we may switch up my BC. I contacted her office yesterday because I know have been spotting for 9 days in a row. I did some online searching...and I read that diet and exercise can throw your hormones off....I am just curious if anyone else has experienced anything like this?

It has messed with mine since i started. I now get spotting like a week before that time pretty much every month. Im also on the pill. Ive read quite a bit about it and it seems to be pretty common. So i have just delt with it. But if you have a chance to see a dr. It cant hurt.

Yes, Ever since I've been working out my period has been lighter and not as bad at it normally is, and I am on the pill as well.

It's thrown mine out of whack.

I've been taking Birthcontrol since 2008(I take Loesterin 24 FE)

Before I used to get my period like clockwork on Late Sunday/Early Monday and be done on Thursday. Now, It doesn't come unless I am exercising during that time... and depending on how much I exercise, depends on how heavy it is/isn't.

    So strange.

Strange hope you get responses. Sorry!

My period has come exactly when it should but its not as intense as before and it shorter. So for me, it was for the good.

exercise when I first started last year threw mine off big time. Last July I had TOM at the beging of the month then stopped for 4days and it started up again full strength and ended for a two weeks then started back up again full force it was a ruff end of the summer but since last August its been very regular and lighter , less cramps , and shorter length. Its kinda like the exercise gave my body a re-boot lol and it just needed a good flushing out before it could get regular.

I am hoping I don't have to switch birth controls because I like this one, I like only having 4 periods a year but this constant spotting in between and for days and days is driving me on insane. Plus it will go away for a day or two and then SURPRISE I am back! arg!

Do a search on the forum regarding increased PMS symptoms-there is some interesting information regarding increased hormone levels as you lose because they also can be stored in fat cells. Be sure to read the information for yourself because I do not want to state it incorrectly from memory.

Also, read throug the literature that come with your prescription. Breakthrough bleeding is one of the side effects of that particular BCD.

    Everything should eventually level out.

P.S. Keep us posted on your Doc's response.

changes in your diet and exercise routines also affect your menstrual cycle. Things should get back to normal once your body is used to the change. I had the same issue...and things have gotten back to normal like after 5months.
