My Funny Facebook Experiment

Long story but I made a fake Facebook profile with some crazy made up foreign sounding name and used an attractive fit guy as the profile picture.

I added a few "friends" who were complete strangers. Within seconds I got confirmations and they accepted my request. I thought this was interesting but then kinda forgot about it and ruled it out as a fluke and maybe just people being polite.

2 days later my inbox was flooded with friend requests and people (primarily females) saying they knew me. I don't know about you but I don't get that kinda love with my real profile. Are people really that shallow?

Anyway, I thought it was an interesting discovery.

Have a great day :)

Now make one with a not so attractive pic and a plain jane name and see what the results are. Vastly different results is my prediction!

There's nothing 'plain' about the name Jane. Lol!

I opened a new 'fake' profile a few years back (for reasons I won't go into now) and uploaded my profile photo, a models picture from somewhere on Google Images. It didn't show the woman's face (what I wanted) at all but it did show her body. I was inundated with friend requests almost immediately and once I accepted a few my 'chat' was permanently busy with men asking if I had a webcam and could we 'talk', lol!
So in answer to your question; YES, DEFINITELY! :drinker:

    btw, I certainly didn't have a webcam..... ;-)

Yup, people are that shallow. Anyone who's tried internet dating knows that having a good profile picture is crucial, and no matter how interesting a profile you have, many people are only interested in what you look like.

    Many, but thankfully not all.

Some people are only on Facebook to get as many random friends as they can, so stupid. Interesting though!

    What is surprising?
Everybody wants to be friends with nice looking people.
    That's just nature.

Exactly why I don't accept people as friends unless I know them.

Please tell me you have a reason for doing this other than you're a little off your rocker.

I have received a few requests from people I didn't know and I never accept them. That is too wierd for me. I had a high schooler send me one and I messaged him saying I didn't think I knew him. He told me that we didn't know eachother, but just thought we could be friends. Umm I don't think so.

    That's crazy!

I only use Facebook for keeping up with family and friends. It's no place to meet people really.

    To clarify...
    - You created a fake Facebook profile...
    - With concocted "personal information..."
    - A fabricated name and identity...
    - And a stolen picture...

And you're judging the "character, sincerity and moral fabric" of others?

    Really?

    LOL! Great point!

lol that isn't even FB only. I've done the same experiment on a blogging website called Xanga. I got TEN times the number of hits I normally did just from changing my pic to a guy's pic. For the record, the guy's pic was my cousin who looks like he could be my brother!

I started out collecting friends because of the stupid games. Now that I don't play games on FB anymore, I can't get rid of them.
