DH and I want to start working out together. He doesn't have any weight to lose but I think it will help me with motivation and follow through if he's involved.
Does anyone have any ideas/plans? I want something concrete that we can urge each other to stick to.
Just looking for ideas before I start to brainstorm...

My DH and I are doing P90X together! Its great as a unisex workout because your hubby can feel all manly and it will build up his muscle. And you can build muscle to become a fat burning machine. :bigsmile:0

So long as he doesn't have any weight to lose, I think DH could be a great motivator. I say this because men and women lose weight differently, often frustrating women. However, if he isn't tracking his weight but simply encouraging you and keeping you motivated, then it would be great!!
What do you need to motivate you? Would a chart with gold stars work? Some people can appreciate the small visual. Others set a weight loss goal/ goal weight, and reward themselves with a gift when they reach that small goal. Maybe you could take a trip together at a specific goal? Small rewards could be an outfit for the trip, or paying for an excursion on the trip.
A couple friends and I made change jars for daily rewards. I didn't have a lot of money to put towards my reward, but needed the visual reward, so I'd buy a couple rolls of quarters and dimes to add to my jar when I met daily goals. My daily rewards were something like....
Drink 8 glasses of water - $0.25
Eat within calories - $0.25
Have a happy day, being smiling and encouraging - $0.25
Run for more than 5 minutes straight - $1.00
Exercise - $0.50
I was working on increasing my health, lowering my weight, improving my overall happiness. As certain aspects became easier, like getting in all my water, I'd decrease that to $0.10. If eating right became harder, I'd increase that monetary reward. I kept shifting it to fit with my needs.
I've stopped tracking, but still have my money jar sitting in my bedroom, reminding me daily that I need to focus on myself, that each little drop in the bucket (each coin or each self-improving activity done daily) helps to make me a better person.
EDIT: I think I interpreted the question wrong, but I'm leaving my response anyhow!!0 -

I thought it was a great response - even if it might not have been what was being asked.0 -

If you don't keep a written chart, just remember to pay yourself that night or you will forget that day's details and shortchange yourself!!0

We did a great workout challenge together when we lived in Florida. We figured out how many miles it was round trip to Disney and when we had walked/jogged that many miles (both of our miles combined), we rewarded ourselves with a Disney trip! You could do something similar for your area. It also serves as motivation to go when you don't want to, and a clear marker of the progress you've made. If you aren't into walking or jogging, you could do it in minutes or hours per mile.0

Phoenix, Thanks that was what I was looking for! We've tried "competing" before but that just brings out negative feelings (for me, because I'm a Taurus).
But adding to a jar, maybe call it a BIKINI VACATION FUND or something would be GREAT!
I want to take a cruise in April/May so I'll have to see how much $ I would have to put in between now and then.
Thank you all! More ideas welcome!0
