Help! Where do I fit in??

OK So after making a few posts and getting no replies, I'm feeling a little shut out, but I know that is my own insecurity and perception so.....here goes......I don't know where I fit in on this board, so I will tell you about myself and maybe someone can recommend a group or two?
I'm a 36 year old mom who is single again for the first time since I was 15 years old. I need to lose about 35 lbs, not for vanity, for my health.......although vanity is certainly a factor LOL. I struggle with depression and stress eating, and I still have a long road ahead of me in terms of divorce and seperation, so there is some added stress there.
I'm looking for a group where I can get and give support for people who are trying to lose weight and control emotional eating and it certainly wouldn't hurt if there were a couple others on there who were having to start life over in the middle as well.
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Sorry, you previously got no responses from us it must have been a hectic day. I have found everyone on this site to be VERY supportive and informative and hope that you will see everyone the same way! I don't particularly belong to any "group" on here but I think others do so I wouldn't be the one to recommend anything concerning that. I can offer myself though! :flowerforyou:
I am an emotional eater, a bored eater, an over-eater - pretty much any kind of eater one could be THATS ME! I to eat and there is nothing I can do to curb it. All I have found to do is to take everything in moderation. I couldn't possibly stop eating (especially sweets!) altogether so this site has helped me realize healthier choices as well as the down side of bad choices. Seing how bad certain foods are for me is my least favorite part of this site! :grumble: But we have to take the good with the bad, right? I'm here for you, and I'm sure many others are too. Just reach out when you need a friend or someone to hold your hand!

I am not starting over, but do feel sometimes that I fit in nowhere, so I can relate to you on that subject! I do not have any kids, so lots of times I feel just like you, shut out, since most on here do. I know what you are going through must be difficult, I could not imagine. You really have to be your own support system through this, and once you get through the bad you will be a stronger person, inside and out!
Just do not give up, and fight that depression, been there, I know its not fun. Not sure about the groups you could join, as I am not really part of any myself, maybe you could start your own group, be the leader!0 -
Hi, I just started today and would love to start a group. I've been browsing and it just seems like most groups have started already and feel a little odd jumping in.
I am 37 a mom of 3 and tend to be an emotional eater myself. Especially when board.
I too want to lose 40lbs. Mainly for vanity reasons, plus the fact that a 20yr reunion is around the corner too.0 -
Welcome to MFP! This is a great site and I'm sure after you're here awhile you'll start to feel more like you fit. Just jump in and post. I think alot of people are alittle uncomfortable at first but the more you put yourself out there the more people you'll meet.
I don't really belong to a group but I am a regular on the Proud thread. Stop by and post what you've done today that you're proud of. It's a wonderful bunch posting prouds, encouraging, and being encouraged.:flowerforyou:0 -
Don't sweat it... watch the recent posts and look for something that interests you. Or worst case you can do what I did and start your own then watch it get shut down by Mike (site owner if you don't know who Mike is), then remake it and attempt to force everyone to behave... long story. :laugh:0

Wow! Thanks everyone for replying and for the friend requests as well.
I'm actually really into the paranormal, I've moderated a couple sites and I have my own forum site so I should know how these things go! That's why when I didn't get any replies I thought.....ok what would I tell a member of a site I am an old pro on? Not to take it personally......so I didn't......but I still really appreciate getting some feedback this time around! :flowerforyou:
I am going to take the advice you guys offer and cruise around, make a few posts and see where I feel the most comfortable, and maybe visit a few of your profiles too and say HELLO. Thanks again!

Well I am only 30, I am single, no kids, but am overweight, just like most of the people on here. I do not belong to any particular group, but when I feel like going out somewhere not so good for the diet or anything like that, I will sometimes read through different messages on the board, to try and learn something that might help me, or I will send a message to a buddy. Stick it out, there are others like you, just give it time. You can do it0

Hi Cathy,
Love the Eeyore avitar my favorite. I just joined this group last week. It is a mix of losts of different weight loss gole form small to large. It seems like a very nice group of ladies. There are so many groups on the site and they do all seem welcoming.

I am also new to this site and in fact this is my first posting. I can completely relate to you because I, too, am an emotional/bored eater and a mother.
It sounds as if you will be dealing with a lot of stress in the upcoming months so I wanted to share with you what helped me. I started taking martial arts classes and it is the best way to get out additional stress, by hitting and punching the bags, and it gave me a new goal, black belt. These classes train your body in a completely different way than say running and weight lifting without it feeling like you are working out. They also can build your confidence and self-esteem by creating the ability to physically defend yourself if you have to. If you can't afford it right now you could start by borrowing some tapes/DVDs from the library to see what it is all about and then see if it is something you would like to pursue (I started with Billy Blanks' Tae Bo). Also a lot of the dojos offer the first few weeks at a discounted or free rate to try it out.
Good luck.0 -
Thanks everyone! I will get posting, and check out that dvd, thanks! :drinker:0

Wow ok well I fell off the wagon big time during the holidays, party due to some personal issues cropping up but I am ready to go now, starting again tomorrow and feeling more ready for a real commitment this time. I wanted to say THANKS for all the friend requests! :flowerforyou:0

You can do it! I recommend the Fab Fours - wonderful group of people who do challenges each day - better for accountability, if you need that. Welcome!!!0

Thanks bluenote!0

I'm new here too, AND an emotional/stress eater AND a mom! I went through a divorce seven years ago so I can sympathize with the starting over part. I'm looking to really build up my support system here, but its been slow going these past couple of days!0
