Timex Zone Trainer HRM

I just bought the Zone Trainer and used it for the first time at the gym today. I worked out for 30 minutes before I became so confused and unsure about my workout that I just gave up. I was on an elliptical (not sure which brand) and the elliptical and HRM gave me the same reading for my HR, but drastically different reading for my calories burned. One of the major reasons I bought a HRM is to get a better estimate of calories burned. The Zone Trainer only asked my weight and I had to manually input what I determined to be my maximum HR. The machine asked for my height, weight, and age. Neither asked for my gender. My HRM told me that in just half an hour (averaging about 140 for HR) I burned over 600 calories! The machine said the same for HR, but said I burned 200 calories, which seems much more reasonable to me.

Is it even worth it to keep this thing? I can get a pretty good reading of my HR on the machine, and really I wanted to be able to see calories burned. This HRM seems pretty crappy for this purpose.

Also, is there a HRM that does a pretty decent job of determining calories burned?

    In one word: NO!

Timex HRM's suck at estimating calories burned.. you are better off using MFP, then a TImex.

Return ASAP and buy a Polar. You'll be much better off!
