Help with my spare tire...

Hey guys... i've lost more than I ever thought I had to. I'm at 126 which is less than i've weighed since before high school! The problem is i'm still so unhappy with my body. I haven't been exercising at all and that may be why but I still look heavier than pre-pregnancy when I was at 138! I have this spare tire around my belly, it goes all the way around and I need help with how to get rid of it for good. I know I should exercise and the past few days i've been walking a couple miles a day because I heard that helps flatten belly fat. Does anyone have any tips or know any good exercises I could try to get rid of this stubborn fat?? It's so irritating. I've always carried more in my tummy but now I just look ridiculous because it looks like I have a tire around my belly and it's out of proportion to the rest of my body. Please help. -

There are no exercises to burn fat in specific spots, sorry. Just overall watching your diet and exercising.0

1. Getting fitter is a two pronged approach. Good balanced food and exercise. Walking is all well and good but it's basic exercise, you're not burning massive amounts more than you would be if you were just sitting down watching tv. Do exercises that get your heart rate up and burn fat. Be that high intensity cardio or pumping iron, or both take your pick!
2. Your diary is not open so not possible to comment on the food aspect.
FWIW I too have a spare tire - the remnants of a bigger belly - that spare tire WILL BE gone by end of year!0 -
My only advice is to eat as clean and healthy as you can and mix cardio and strength training. Most of your weight loss will be from your diet. If you do exercises to tighten your core, that will help bring it all in as well (I'm living proof of that... I always had chub on my tummy but it always looked good... after I had kids, there was nothing I could do to make it look flat becuase my core had become so weak... I felt constantly bloated and even sucking it in didn't work. Once I started working on my abs again, it became easier to suck it in and it looks much flatter. )
Tighten up your core, revamp your menu with good, clean foods, and up your cardio to burn fat. Good luck!0 -
cant spot reduce there is a saying abs are made in the kitchen, not that your shooting for abs but pretty much sums up belly fat all diet0

Thanks for all the advice, i'm pretty sure I eat super clean... well especially recently. I opened up my diary for anyone who wants to give advice on what I eat. I may be eating too much fruit.. who knows. So exercise it is I guess... I've never really exercised before besides walking or running. I'll just have to do it!0

Had a quick browse through your diary, if anything you could do with eating a tad more. I absolutely wouldn't worry about fruit - yeah I know it contains sugar, but the natural goodness and vitamins and fibre they contain far outweigh that concern. Obviously if you were gorging on fruit and not getting appropriate exercise that would be another matter! But you're no way near that stage! Also you could and should up your protein significantly, that'll help you keep your existing muscle and maybe add some if you start doing some muscle building exercise, more muscle will help you burn more cals also.

Thank you so much for your helpful advice! I really appreciate it! I will definitely add some more calories and protein to my diet I have no problem with that maybe add a snack of almonds or something?? My husband has some old p90x dvd's so i'm going to give those a shot too. Wish me luck!0 -
you cant spot reduce like the others said, but i know for a fact that doing sprints will help speed up the fat loss on your stomach, it also tightens your abs.. try it, you will feel it in your abs!0

Thanks! I guess I was fooling myself by thinking just walking would do much haha. I will for sure try sprints, i'm so motivated to try anything right now!0 -

It's great that you are motivated. That's half the battle. Going beyond that... sometimes you have to do what needs to be done even when you are not motivated!
I'd also recommend getting yourself a HRM (Heart rate monitor), coz whatever form of exercise you do, you want to make sure that heart is pumping (healthwise permitting of course).
As for almonds... they are fine for a snack, and although they do contain some protein, really almonds like other nuts are mostly fats - healthy fat, but fats nonetheless. I did go a bit overboard on walnuts today but in general you should consume nuts in moderation.
For protein - if you're a meat eater - chicken really is no.1. tuna and pork are also good, tbh any meat really. You could also get a protein supplement. I'm currently struggling through some horrible sweetened protein powders... yuck, when I'm done I'm going for unflavoured ones!0 -
