Think I may download it this evening. Thanks for the recommendation0

Not sure if any of you read this blog, but I love her posts on salad: http://www.canyoustayfordinner.com/tag/salad/
Her posts helped make salad fun for me again, not just the boring lettuce and a couple vegetables on top ideas.0 -
I love salads and it's part of why I lost weight and kept it off. Salad with lots of vegetables, simple grilled meat, and a small amount of dressing is fantastic. If loving raw veggies makes me fat, then I don't wanna be thin :P
This! I love salads too, minus the dressing.
Actually saying "salads are bad" is just as bad as saying "salads are the only way to lose weight". As usual, it depends on each individual and their view, as so many things do.0 -
I'll definitely have to check this out, I've been looking for a new book to read.
I've taken some nutrition classes and had a time period where I was really into it, and actually if you look at certain places eating a salad is just as bad or worse for you than eating a regular entree. A restaurant I used to work at had salads that were well over 2,000 calories and the worst items on the menu. I really enjoy salads which is why I eat them, but I definitely make sure I put a wide variety of vegetables and always add a protein on it.
The top things on a salad to avoid when eating out are croutons (another restaurant I used to work at the house salad was 170 calories becaues of the croutons, without them I think it was around...30 calories because it was just basic veggies and croutons), the dressing (sometimes your vinegarettes are just as bad or worse for you than a creamy dressing, also watch the sugars in low-fat dressings), and cheese/bacon. Also leave out asking for bread or rolls with it, once again where I used to work at our tiny little yeast rolls were 140 calories each and I would see women claim that they are dieting and be super picky about what they eat but down 4 with one salad...which made their meal an extra 560 calories, which is another added hour (at least) at the gym, or a meal.0 -
Just ordered it--thank you for posting this!0

Sounds interesting and I've never eaten a salad in my life! Why do people think that's the ultimate go to health food?
because you can have a ton of lettuce for like next to nothing calories. (just a for instance look at subway a veggie delight salad can be around 270 calories no dressing.)
Yes well aware of that. However an example I'll point out that's been adressed is many think salad=healthy in any circumstance. Nope sorry. I go to school with a girl on a diet yet she gets a salad everyday. Is there protein? Nope. What there is though is a ton of full fat cheese and heavy full fat and whatever else dressing. Has she lost weight? No. Sorry that doesn't make it quality health food. I hate salad and prefer to eat calorie dense, filling, satisfying food. My point is people trying to lose weight automatically think all they need to eat is salads and that's just not true.0 -
I haven't heard of it, but I just realized that I seriously have only had like one salad as a meal since I have been close to my goal weight...unintentionally though, I love salad, skinny or not!0

Does it tell you what skinny chicks eat? I am very interested to find out what they eat and know if they really exercise that much. I will get the book if its worth the read.0

Some people refer to me as "Skinny". but I actually love raw food and salad... I prefer it in the summer months. I don't see anything wrong with it. Yummy!!!0
-
I am going to have to check this one out. Thanks0

This book has been sitting on my night stand for about a month since I bought it in the markdown section at Barnes and Noble. Guess I need to open it up and start reading huh?0
-
I'll check it out! I hate the salad hype!0

Yes! I have both books (Skinny Chicks Eat Real Food is her second book) They're very good and very realistic. Changing the way that you think about food is the first step to eating healthy. I love that she dubunks the whole "free range" thing in her second book (basically, the rule on some of those labels are pretty lax and that can just mean that the chickens could walk outside on a cement patio for an hour a day)0

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Raw food. It's actually really good for you. The idea is that people eat salads and then think it gives them a free pass to eat other bad things afterwards, or, they eat a salad and aren't full or don't get the right nutrition and then they binge.
She focuses on eating carbs with protein every few hours to keep your blood sugar level. The title's odd but the book is good.0 -
That's crazy. When I go to Cheesecake Factory I usually get there Cobb Salad. I guess I won't do that no more.

Just ordered it for my Kindle - I'm going to start reading it!0

I just ordered this book! So excited to read it0

I love salad. I brought in tuna salad today!0

Sounds very similar to the book Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole & Elsye Resch. Which is an absoloutely fabulous book written by Dietitians. Would HIGHLY recommend reading this book also. I might check into this skinny chick book as well! Thanks for the tip.0

But.... I LIKE salad!!:frown:
I do too, lol it's not saying you have to give up salad. Obviously salad is good for you until you go to a restaurant and it's topped with breaded chicken, croutons, cripsy tortilla chips and stuff like that. And in the book she talks about how salads are good but NOT when they're made like that. You're ebtter off making them for yourself with oil and vinegar. Not a fatty dressing.
BUT most "dieters" get caught up in eating only salads to lose weight when #1, they don't really like them, and #2, don't know that salads CAN be very unhealthy (the caesar salad at Cheesecake Factory is over 1600 calories!). So people should eat what they enjoy and make sure it is hearty and healthy and something they WANT to eat. If not, it leads to binge eating and unstable levels in blood sugar which is what makes those of us "sweet tooths" crave sugar and things we should have in moderation.
Agree! I love a good salad, but I don't want to eat them every day. I believe some folks feel like they have to gobble down tons of salads to get or keep their weight down, but that is not true.0 -
If I have to got to the Cheesecake Factory (because others choose the restaurant) I always read the nutitional menu for my selection. They have a "healthier" section now that is still higher than I like but I usually end up with something from those options or I 1/2 one of the better entrees right from the start. I also 1/2 any cheesecake I may splurge on with someone else at the table. I enjoy a bite or two but never a whole slice. Just isn't worth it.0

This!
Me neither...
On the other hand, no wonder I'm not skinny because I love salads hehehehe0 -
its not the salads so much as it is the dressing on the salads things we put on like cheese, lunch meat really pack the calories. I love salad but I do eat meat, veggies, fruit etc0

This! Exactly, thanks for this. People are getting too caught up in the literal meaning of the title lol.0 -
will read later x0

Correct, but that is the problem. To many unknowledgable "dieters" salad IS lettuce WITH dressing and croutons and the works. If you have healtyh salad all dya everyday and you like it and are losing weight, this book obviously doesn't apply to you. It's more just people who are trying to eat healthy but don't know where to start and don't know that salads CAN be unhealthy. It also gives alternatives to those who don't LOVE salads. So if you do, and it works, that's GREAT! You probably don't need the book then0 -

Lol, this! I know the cheesecake is SOOOO bad, I never have a whole slice either lol.0 -
