Hello All,
I'm just gonna start by saying that I LOVE Myfitnesspal!!!! I've already lost a total of 10 lbs from when I started and probably 6 since my fitness pal. So here's my dilemma...I am in a self imposed competition with some friends to get in the best shape of my life by Oct. I am already walking an hour at about 4.0 mph and have now added P90X to my evenings. Problem is I'm NOT LOSING any weight at all now! Please help with suggestions as I'm getting frustrated. I'd like to lose about another 10 lbs. I'm 5,4" , 49, and weigh 153. I wear a size 6, 7 or 8 depending on who makes it. Just wondering if I need to eat all the calories on my daily allowance, start again and put my new weight in, or what? Help and thanks!!!

how many calories per day are you consuming?0

It may help for us to read your diary if you can open it.0

Have u taken your measurements? The scale is not the only indicator of success.0
-
Measurements - the scale is only one means of change. I see better results in my measurements, more consistently, than I ever do with the scale.0

Add weight training to your exercises.
Find your TDEE and adjust calories as required.
Log EVERYTHING you eat, even if it has no calories (or so you think it doesn't!).
Open your dairy.0 -
I found this article helpful a while back. I had been plateued for 6 months. I ended up, upping my calories by about 150 a day and decreasing my cardio by about half. I'm actually looking forward to upping the cardio again when I plateau again or reach goal weight. http://www.fitnesswithnatalie.blogspot.com/2011/05/most-dreaded-word-in-weight-loss.html
Good luck.0 -
Christi that was a great blog. Thanks for posting. I bookmarked it so when I reach my plateau I won't freak out.0

Glad to know I'm not the only one with this problem...I do Les Mills BodyPump, BodyCombat, CXWorx, and Cycling classes almost every day (at least 2 classes every day--except Thursdays when I play volleyball in the city league). And I usually don't workout but on Saturday mornings on my own--treadmill, elliptical, weights, etc. I have found since I started working out at this pace in November I have gained weight--almost 10 pounds or so! I am freaked out about it and don't know what to do. I didn't take before pictures and I notice my arms look more toned and my stomach basically looks the same. I am scared to even go get my body fat measured again for fear it's gotten worse in the last month instead of better.0

Thanks! I got it from someone else on MFP - I wish I could remember who, but it really helped me.0 -
Christi: trash the sugar (boxed cereals, bars, white rice, too much bread, etc), eat more vegetables and fruit, increase your protein, and lift weights.
Try it, you have nothing to lose and a lot to gain. Good luck!0 -

Are you taking measurements? I see inches lost off my body without the scale moving quite often! and take before and after pics too they are VERY motivational!0

THIS!0 -
Yes, it happened to me with running and weight training.
Did you just get the videos or the whole packet? You probably have to eat more, and definitely more protein.
Also, as suggested already a dozen times, take pictures and measurements. The scale doesn't tell the whole story.0 -
You might need to measure your portion sizes to ensure they're correct, but whatever you decide to do, don't quit.0
-
You are probably losing fat and gaining muscle with all the working out you are doing, they weigh the same0

So I know a ton of peeps have already said this, but for one, your measurements are probably changing even if your weight isn't. Also, you could have just plateaued... I did for about 2 weeks, eating well, exercising, and sleeping well... not a budge on the scale... it even went up for a day or two! Then FINALLY one day I dropped like 3 lbs and it didn't go back up! Keep with it! You can break the plateau! Try changing it up for a day or two... maybe that will make the scale budge!0

Bump...I want to read this later (as well as the blog)0

Hi,
Have a look at EM2WL stickies on MFP.You will get invaluable info there about your stats and eating requirement based on your TDEE ect. Its just great for getting you back ontrack. You will get the links to some great sites with sensible suggestions
Its harder for those of us who are not in our 20s but is still "doable".Weight is just a number, Wellness is a goal.
You have already started your journey, well done and keep going Knowledge is Power in this game.
I joined P90X July August & September group and find it a fantastic help.
Feel free to friend me.0 -
People will tell you a million and one different reasons why and tell you to do different things... sometimes you just plateau... sometimes you're not being true to yourself with your logging and as you get nearer a weight where your calorie goals BMR is equal to, the slower and less noticeable weight you'll lose... Also the fitter you get, the more efficient your metabolism becomes.
Don't believe the overhype that you're putting on muscle... you could be putting some on... but most is 2lbs A MONTH. However, measurements are an excellent way of measuring success... plus fitness success is good.
Success isn't measured by greatness but consistency. A healthy lifestyle and fitness improving is something good to take away, but how you feel and your measurements too. Scales tend to give some arbritary readings depending on time/day/foods eaten etc. I eat high water volume foods... so I can put on about 5 or 6lbs after a meal and a good glug of juice/water through the weight of food.
Relax a bit, eat right, exercise, be healthy and buy clothes that fit and flatter. Jobs a good un.0 -
Girl...153, 5'4, and 49. Size 8. Your already looking hott! lol. I understand wanting to lose 10 more though, but have you looked in the mirror and just said Yippie! lol. I know we all have our goals, and you said this is for a compeition so how about working towards 5.0 on the treadmill. Increase your intensity, add some weights in. That might help.0

1200 per day is what myfitnesspal says I can eat...someday's I eat a little more but that is figured in with the exercise that I do, correct? I hardly ever eat all the calories that my diary says I can have. Thanks for posting!0
-
I'll have to search and see how to open my diary. Thanks Rose!0

I've not taken my measurements. I'll do that tomorrow.
I log everything I eat..
Thanks for the ideas everyone!!0 -
bumb for blog0

Good Blog Christy!!! I'm gonna try to change something up. Right now doing cardio through walking 5-6 days a week for an hour a day AND doing P90x 6 days a week. Think I need to change something. Thanks so much!0
-
Thank you so much everyone! I appreciate the encouragement and all the help! Have a great night!0

Let's look at the numbers...
Total calories: 1200 (perhaps more on certain days)
Exercise calories: walking at 4.0 speed for 1 hour = roughly 350 calories; You can add 400 or more when doing P90x. So total exercise calories would be 750 or greater when doing both activities daily.
Net calories: 450 or lower.
I'd try upping your calories to net close to your BMR.0 -

Thanks for the advice. I already busted my plateau though. I'm planning to increase the protein and do the NROWL for Women after I get into the healthy BMI range - less than two pounds away.
I'm not shooting for perfect eating. I wouldn't find that sustainable. I definitely eat much much better now...and I'm sure a year from now, I'll eat much better than I do now.0
