Door-to-door?

I am working on an Emergency Action Plan for a dam (at work, not in my spare time  ).

The lake area is mostly vacation properties and the residence will most likley have to be notified by door-to-door means in the event that the dam fails. I just don't like how that sounds. Anyone have a better way of saying it that sounds more ... I don't know ... professional?

Sorry to bore you, but any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Oh that sounds better. Thanks for the suggestion.

It has to fit in a fairly narrow column. So shorter might be better too. We'll see how that one works.
  • I think door-to-door sounds fine. (Of course had this been a real emergency, anything would work) The simpler, the better.

My suggestion would be to use the term "personal contact" instead of "door-to-door". Unfortunately, that is a very labor-intensie and time-consuming method of emergency notification. It wold be much better to use some type of broadcast notification such as "Reverse 911" or something else. Are you doing this for some public safety agency?

This is only one part of the notification system. We would use the Emergency Broadcast System (TV and radio). The Natioinal Weather Service, local emergency response teams, the Dam Safety agency, etc. will also be notified. Telephone calls will be made to the property owners by the county dispatcher. However, since these are vacation properties, most do not have land lines and we don't have a way of obtaining all cell phone numbers.

"Personal Contact" is also a very good suggestion. I am half brain-dead today so I really appreciate you guys thinking for me.

Any chance of using a siren and/or loudspeaker system then? They are very common out here for tornado warnings.
