More of a metal head than punk, but I still listen to old skool No Doubt, Rancid, NOFX, Pistols, Ramones, etc.

I have friends in punk bands and go to a few local free gigs here and there

I love punk rock, pop punk, ska punk.

Old No Doubt, Sublime, Rancid, Nofx, old Afi, Alkaline Trio, Horror pops, the distillers, odd bit of Green Day before they turned into a stadium band.

The only genre of music to work out to! :-D

Sounds like me, I also love my bloody valentine, thrice, killswitch engaged....and many others!

Just saw Henry Rollins on tour a few months ago. If I could work out to spoken word without laughing and falling off the treadmill I would...I've had a crush on the man for over 30 years...sigh...

So, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Misfits...all good ipod stuff. Current pop/punk I LOVE right now is Billy Talent, good ole Canadian band...

Can I still say I'm punk at 43??? LOL
^^^ Yes you can! I'll be 49 this Thursday and I love all that stuff (and some Henry Rollins too  )

gotta add 7 Seconds since i haven't seen them mentioned yet :)

Man, I loved Kevin - he's still rockin', too.

Nod to the OP: DRI kicks, but there's a lot here that's... Uh, not punk, y'all. I mean, I like OpIvy and No Doubt, too, but...

Gimme some Descendants, ****ies, Vibrators, and Buzzcocks for my "pop" fix (not because they were founded for poppunk, but relative to what came after, they're so soft and cute feeling!); Agent Orange when I wanna bounce; Black Flag/ Minor Threat/ CoC when I wanna get out my aggro. DK for always.

I'm a little amused by what is coming up on here as "punk" but i'll not comment, i listen to all sorts of stuff too :)

If you like the Cramps, "Code Blue" era TSOL and Misfits you should check out what Horrorbilly (the substyle of Rockabilly) has to offer, those shows tend to be a really good time too. Now that the hipsters have moved on to the more IRONIC Metal bands out there it's safe to go see rockabilly shows again ;p

LOL, this makes me want to start a Metal thread by the way, see how many Kind Diamond/Meryful Fate fans i can find.

yes Flipper and Minor Threat and Black Flag and Cro-Mags and Television
also *kitten* Surfers and Birthday Party and Karp and i'll always have a special place in my collection for Big Black/Shellac, but that's getting off topic.

there are so many interpretations of what 'punk' is.
but that doesn't matter does it?
cuz punk is in the heart.

Yea this!! This is awesome, love the last 3 lines. Flipper, Minor Threat and Black Flag are also awesome.

Punk used to represent an attitude. Now it's just another label for a style of music.

Karaoke means "empty orchestra" in Japanese. Karaoke music is NOT the original recording. Studio bands perform the songs for Karaoke disks, which is why it doesn't always sound the same as on the radio.

Any Bouncing Souls fans out there? I might go see them at the end of the month and am curious as to how good they are live. I'm assuming awesome but just thought I'd ask.

Haven't seen them in years, but they used to put on a good show.

Also: HA! I just realised that MFP starred out the name of one of my bands *laughing* Well, maybe they just don't like Stukas over Disneyland *laughing more*

Not sure what this reply has to do with what I wrote. Is it because I'm Japanese?

when I was growing up, I was very into punk rock. I used to go see bands like Black Flag, MDC, Fear, etc. Had a 14" green Mohawk that I'd stick up with knox gelatin. As I got older I gravitated to the goth scene. I still listen to a lot of it though. Wasted Youth, Ramones, Buzzcocks, TSOL, Dead Kennedys, Cramps etc.

    My friend Sheena is.

LMAO! Good one! I work out to Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys and NoMeansNo, among others. Have not yet put all my music on my Ipod but surely Sex Pistols would be on there, along with many more...

Used to listen to Black Flag, The Cramps, Op Ivy, and others too - but nowadays not so much. God reading this thread has reminded me of so much good music I used to love - gonna have to hit the internet and do some downloading!! Ipod update a-comin'

I hate the whole what is punk argument. The simple answer is: whatever the f&^k you like, and f&^k you if you don't like it. Or at least, that should be the answer. :)

OMG - I read this w/out looking at the icon and though "i need to friend this person right away ... " and if course it's YOU and we have been freinds forever. And rightly so <3

Fear, good add, i tend to forget about them. I shaved the sides of my head about 8 yeras ago for a death-rock hawk but i don't think i ever had a PROPER punk 'hawk ... and it's not going to happen now at 38 and in a professional work environment. Maybe when i retire?!?!

I love how punk keeps on going. I was into it back in the early days -- punk hit Austin Texas around 1980 when I was 15. Who woulda thunk it would still be going strong 30 years later!

The word "punk" actually predates "punk" music. I found an interesting article from the early sixties that referred to the Beach Boys as "punks." Oddly enough, the Ramones cite the Beach Boys as one of their major influences. Joey has said that they were trying to play pop music but that they weren't very good.

Seriously though, I have some Ramones and one early Green Day song on my running playlist. It's all songs that are the tempo at which I want to move my feet (~170 beats per minute) so I'm sure there's a lot of punk that would work for me. I'm going to search the catalogs of some of the bands mentioned on this thread!
