What are some great tasting protein shakes and/or bars?

I'm getting ready to have Gastric Bypass surgery and I'm on a high protein (80-100g per day) low cal diet. I've never tried any of the protein supplements and would like some suggestions on some that taste good. Thanks.

I just started eating Pure Protein peanut butter&chocolate bars. I like them and they have 20 grams of protein per bar, only 2 grams of sugar.

I picked up some of the whey protein listed below this past weekend at WalMart and am really enjoying the taste.

Everyone has wildly different tastes for the protein brands. Some vitamin stores sell one-serving pouches that you can buy to try. Sample them and discover your favorite, or at least the best of the bunch.

This is a great suggestion, I purchased the Costco brand and am not too crazy about it, it is a huge bag, so it will take a while to consume
One serving pouches are way better that way you get to sample and pick your favorite
I am going to follow this advice

I have absolutely HATED every single protein drink I've ever tried... until I found Lean Body by Labrada. The chocolate ice cream flavor is my favorite. They have 25g protein and no sugar or lactose. It is the only protein drink I've found that doesn't have that gross protein taste and texture. It comes in both powder form and single serve, ready-to-drink bottles which are really convenient. Highly recommend!!!
  • What you ever heard of Shakeology?!

Life's Basics Plant Protein in Chocolate and I mix it in vanilla flavored Almond milk with 4 ice cubes. Very good flavor.

Are you supposed to eat those soy supplements, or high biologic value protein (meat, fish eggs)?

You should try Trutein's CinnaBun. I like it a little more than Gaspari's. What I like about TruNutrition Sciences is that they disclose how much whey (40%), casein (40%) and eggs (20%) they use. You can order samples through their website:

    I haven't actually found a 'great tasting' one! Wish I could. :)
Nutritional value trumps taste. I like NOW Foods whey protein isolate:

ON Whey powder, extreme milk chocolate flavor. It's the only protein shake I've really liked been using it for well over a year and not sick of it yet.

Definitely a fan of the Pure Protein bars. They have the best protein/calorie ratio that I've found (that are found easily in stores and not online and super expensive). If you look hard or check sales you can usually get the 20g of protein (for 200 cals or less) ones for $1.

About Time whey protein- comes in a 2 lb jug but also smaller trial sizes. I like it because it is only 4 ingredients- whey, stevia, natural flavoring, and xanthan gum (thickening agent). This brand has no fat, sugar, or carbs. 25 grams of protein for 103 calories. They have lots of flavors, but I'm happy with the vanilla.

I use Jillian Michael's Triple Chocolate whey protein with 1/2 cup of Almond Breeze vanilla almond milk sweetend (or 1 cup unsweetened) and a 1/2 to 1 cup of fresh spinach. I put it in the blender for about 5 mins so it's really frothy and very filling. Calorie wise it can be anywhere from high 100s to low 200s depending on the almond milk. The powder provides 15 g protein per scoop. I use 1 scoop and it's 110 calories in itself.

I bought a generic version at Walgreen's because I ran out and didn't feel like going to a big store. It is OK but it has artificial sweeteners and Jillian Michael's brand does not.

Odwalla has some protein drinks, too- They have a tropical fruity one. I like that best.

I make my own with Jay Robb Egg White Powder (rice mik, berries, half a banana)

I eat Luna or Balance Bars sometimes for a protei boost.

Quest protein bars not only taste good, but are the most nutritious I've found. Not loaded down with sugar. I love the chocolate, chocolate peanut butter, cinnamon, peanut butter supreme and mixed berry bliss.

Protein shake--Optimum nutrition 100% whey. I've only tried the double rich chocolate but it's yummy and no clumps!

For protein bars, try to get ones where protein grams far outweigh sugars. Many bars marketed towards women have much more sugar than protein - ie Luna, Larabars, etc..

I love the EAS low carb protein drinks in chocolate and dark chocolate. The dark chocolate is really yummy and helps with cravings for sweets! I get them from WalMart in the 4 packs ready to drink. Never tried the powder because I want the low carb and haven't found their powders in that kind.
