A little over a month ago I did a 180 on my lifestyle, eating smaller healthier portions and rarely eat procecced foods and started walking more and have lost 17 lbs.. I now have access to a real gym and have started lifting. So the thing I am having trouble with is I need to lose a lot of weight (6'3" 414lbs.) but also what to build mass and strength and possiblly do strongman training. So to gain mass I need more food intake to fuel growth but that will hamper my weight loss right, should I work on fat loss first and then the mass or will the mass training eat the fat for fuel. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not a doctor, but I would think the amount of excess fat you have on your body is still a health concern. You're very right that you can't gain massive amounts of muscle without also adding a little fat. You definitely won't add much if you're not eating more than you're burning. But I would think you need to lose fat first. I'd say aim for 300 first and re-evaluate. Your organs are probably being squeezed. My husband is 6'2" and 260-ish right now and he's been advised to maintain about an 800 calorie/day deficit to lose about 1 lb every 4-5 days.0

I agree. No doctor in their right mind would advise you to start training with that much excess weight on you already, I can't imagine the strain it would put on your heart. Focus on getting to a healthy BMI first, then start your training. You should be lifting in the meantime tho, great for weightloss - just not the heavy duty training it will take to reach your goal.0

ahhh the age old problem "i want to get bigger and cut weight" you are not alone everyone wants to do this. however it is impossible. you cannot build muscle and gain strength while running a calorie deficit, cant be done. you can maintain your current strength and muscle mass while deiting but you will need to increase your protien intake. general rule of thumb is between .08 to 1.0 grams of protein per pound. you will also definetly want to drop your carb intake to about 20% of your daily caloric in take and only eat dietary fats in oderation. dietary fats are eggs milk cheese nuts olive oil.
i would concentrate on losing weight and getting healthier before starting stron man. gaining strength and adding muscle mass is easy. getting to a healthy weight takes time and dedication.
you may want to look into and or speak with your dr about the keto diet. this is a low carb (5% per day) medium protien (40% per day) and high deitary fat (55% per day) th goal with this deit is to put your self into ketosis where your body uses the fat for fuel and the the stored glucose in your muscles for fuel. this deit is very effective and you can lose a lot of fat faster than just running a calorie deicit. agian because of your current weight i would speak to your dr first but also look into this to see if this is something that may be helpful for you0
