Getting leg back in shape

About a week ago I slipped on the stairs and must have pulled a muscle in my lower leg. It didn't hurt that day so out I went on the track doing C25k week 3 and about 20 minutes after I got done I was in agony.
Next day the pain went down so I think I'm OK, so off I go to the track. When I get done it is tight but not to bad. Which is how most of the week went.
Problem is last night I was out I was in agony 20 minutes into just walking round the track, I had to stop.
If I stop doing exercise I will feel like I'm not doing a good workout, I'll slip back on the C25k and I'll probably get out of the habit. If I keep doing stuff it'll probably take weeks to get better if at all.
So my question is, how long should a mild strain like this take to get better, am I better walking on it or trying to run again or just let it go and try to heal, but then for how long?
I'm sure there are some runners out there that have had to work back in after muscle strain?

I pulled a muscle in my thigh near groin area, stopped workouts for about 2 weeks.. Let me tell ya, was not long enough.. One year later, on Monday, I return from seeing a specialist in sports medicine and I have torn the muscle from the bone itself. Rest, therapy, ice, and steroids are now my options for healing. Next would be surgery, so my advice is rest, rest, and more rest..Even when you think its healed the least little strain and you're back to square one, which is what I did.. Good luck to you!0

Fortunately I don't think it is that serious, just enough to annoy, I think that I will try once more tomorrow and take the weekend off, going out for a big steak Sunday so will have to exercise Monday0

Maybe switch things up and do some strength training or yoga while you wait for your leg to heal? You'll feel like you are doing something and be less likely to push the injury before it has healed.0
