  • I'm not a mod...but there is a low carb recipe group here: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/112055-the-low-carb-high-fat-recipes-group-lchf
  • @Sunny_Bunny_ I call that the Weight Watchers effect - i.e. as long as you don't eat over your points its all okay...until it isn't and you're living on a cup of ice cream and thinking its still going to work for you!
  • Feel free to add me! The total vs. net carb debate is ongoing and it seems like everyone does it a bit differently. I do a bit of a combo - i.e. I try to keep my total under 30 (mostly) but keep an eye on net and I don't sweat it if I go over a bit, knowing that some of that was fiber. You are starting out so I would…
  • The problem with having a goal weight is that it doesn't seem to have much to do with what my body has decided it wants! I definitely felt like my body was trying to gain the weight back by making me hungry in the evenings. So I had stalled out about 8 lbs from my goal (which could be lower) but I realized a couple of…
  • Congrats to the OP - that is one of those unheralded victories we can all relate to. I've had the most success steaming mine for 12 minutes then dousing with cold water. I love The Food Lab - and here's what he had to say about hard boiled eggs:…
  • I agree with @Phrick - this thread and the NSV one are my favourites these days :) No exercise for me today either - so I'll work out my brain at the office instead. Good thing I got my MCT oil in already. Am having dinner out tonight and spent last night on the Jack Astor's website which very kindly provides the…
  • I use this a lot for meat and veggies if you don't mind running a search: https://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ If you prefer a book - here's one you can order through amazon.ca which I haven't tried but from the preview pages it looks like it will cover most things: https://www.amazon.ca/Complete-Book-Food-Counts-9th/dp/0440245613
  • I think your "more veggies" approach is a good one. As the above poster said, stick with whole foods to source your carbs, rather than things with mystery fillers (fast food burgers) and possibly added sugar. I'd avoid bars also as the artificial sweeteners can cause problems for some including cravings for carbs. I think…
  • I would also say that if you are keto-adapted and have been doing this for a while, its pretty easy to pop back into ketosis when you eat within your usual carb limit because your body knows that fat is a preferred fuel source. And I agree with KnitorMiss that attending to the degree to which the paranoia is causing you…
  • I think this is one of those great LC debates - along with net carbs vs. total and whether or not you should weigh yourself daily! Some say its the number of calories and some say its the type of calories that matter. I've also seen folks who say its more like 50 calories. Hopefully someone here has a better answer for you!
  • I am trying to forgive myself for skipping my exercise class last week...but there's a little judgey corner of my brain that insists that I was lazy and am therefore a BAD PERSON. That little corner needs to find something else to think about!
  • I've been lurking but now I'll play! 46 year old mom of two almost grown ups. I live in Ottawa, Canada and work for the fed government in media relations (so I have some stress!). Started LCHF June 2015 at an all time high weight of 245. Am now hovering between 172 and 176 and have been for a good month or so. My camel…
  • I roasted a locally-, pasture-raised half chicken (it was the size of a small turkey! Absolutely amazing! Actually went out to the farm to pick up my chickens, got a full tour of the operation and got to see the happy chickens. Very neat way to connect with your food.
  • I always make an extra serving of dinner and have it for lunch the next day. Today its marinated chicken breast and some broccoli with butter.
  • I take very steamed (i.e. easily mashed) cauli and mix in cream cheese, cream, butter, and grated cheddar and Parmesan - moosh all together and put in a casserole dish. Top with more cheddar and Parmesan - bake at 350 until hot and bubbly. Devour.
  • I have an Instant Pot and make it using table cream (18%). Love it! It's hard to find good fatty yogurt here so it is easier to make my own. I usually "cook" it for 12-16 hours to give the bacteria a chance to eat up as much of the sugar as possible.
  • Wait...you aren't supposed to lick the fry pan???
  • I'm not willing to throw the whole idea aside at the moment. Leanne Vogel at Healthful Pursuit just did a whole podcast in adding a carb up practice to a keto diet (podcast is the No Sugarcoating Podcast). It was interesting and she's done her homework - insofar as possible given how poor nutrition research is. If you…
  • For the first month I lost about 20 lbs. After that it was about 8 lbs a month for 4-5 months. Then it was 4 lbs, and now I lost about a pound a month with lots of bouncing around but also some obvious body recomposition - adding muscle and losing fat. Overall I've lost 73 lbs and change. I have no idea where it will end.…
  • I'm just listening to the Sunday podcast on carb-ups. It's making me question things even though I feel fine (I think?) even after a year of strict keto. Lots of great info!
  • Sadly not out yet but might be an interesting read: https://www.amazon.com/Paleo-Thyroid-Solution-Fatigued-Uninformed/dp/1939563240/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468531204&sr=8-1&keywords=Russ%2C+Elle I don't have thyroid issues...at least not at this point (never say never!). The author hosts some of Mark Sissons Primal…
  • This! @KnitOrMiss helped me diagnose some insomnia and the D in the evening was to blame. I also prefer to take my magnesium in the evening - if there is any kind of gentle laxative effect then it shows up in the morning...but I'm not sure if it makes a huge difference. If you are taking probiotics - take as directed. Mine…
  • I like to cook and I enjoy having variety, but it is just easier if some things are more automatic than others. So my dinners are always something new and different but weekday "breakfast" is always the same (in quotes because its usually some combo of an ounce of cheese and some olives around 10:00 a.m.) and lunch is…
  • Nutribullet here - never had a problem!
  • @priyankarai2005 - you've gotten a lot of great advice here and I wish you lots of luck. It takes time to tweak any diet to your unique body, circumstances and needs but I think if you stick with it you'll succeed! @midwesterner85 - my favourite way to prep scrambled eggs is to dice in some cream cheese (about an ounce for…
  • I'd choose the pizza toppings only myself.
  • This is me also - everyone around me is complaining about how bad the allergies are this year (is it me, or don't folks complain about this EVERY year???) but I can't say that I've noticed! My holistic nutritionist (love her!) posted this on her blog recently about allergies: Diet Influences Allergic Response What we eat…
  • And don't forget adding fructose to EVERYTHING...
  • It can take several months to become fat-adapted and it sounds like you maybe aren't there yet. In other words, your body is still looking for glucose and isn't as efficient at turning to fat to burn. It takes time. Also - some people just lose very very slowly. This is more of a mind game than a physical one sometimes!…
  • I have PCOS and this is my third round to lose weight - maybe fourth actually - in the last 20 years. I have found that this woe works better for me than any other although I lost on strict CICO also (Weight Watchers) so my body is pretty good at losing weight. I've now stuck to it for a year and lost 70 lbs. I'm still…
