This whole thread kind of makes me laugh. Sometimes people can get so caught up in the semantics of words. It's like talking to my husband (who talks in a blue language) and I talk pink! LOL We laugh about it all the time. But even so...I have gotten a lot of good information.

I eat whole, non-proceed, foods. And cut out foods without added sugar or white carbs...

Thanks all. There is a lot to learn I know. @ninerbuff I have been to my GP, Ortho, PT, Pain Management, Chiro etc.. in the end there is nothing they can do, unless it gets worse. I just have to learn to manage my pain as best as I can because I refuse pain killers. I already have resistance bands and exercises from my…

So I asked the wrong question....I am new at this. Is lifting weights the only way? The reason I ask is I have disk issues in my neck and lower back and need to be careful what I do etc... I realize I may need to get a personal trainer but trying to check out all options. Thank you.

TRUE! Wonder if her answer would change after she turns 50! LOL But she has worked with many women over 50......

I recently began my own weight loss journey due to a rather negative visit to the doctor and I thought it would be much more difficult than it's been. I am over 50 and peri-menopausal. I cut out all added sugar and white carbs at the recommendation of my doctor. That alone will did not cause me to lose weight, but I do…

I recently read this answer at Ask Jillian... http://www.everydayhealth.com/fitness/ask-jillian-how-can-i-maintain-my-weight-through-menopause.aspx Thought it might be helpful. ;-)

Thanks everyone! I was just coming to ask this same question. My current goal is 133g of protein and I am always below it and was wondering if I am missing something. I eat meat, eggs, fish, greek yogurt etc...but still struggle to eat enough. I am on a low carb/sugar diet (health reasons) so perhaps I just need to eat…

For the most part I had been eating healthy, or at least trying too. But little to no exercise. And with the whole middle age and hormonal changes etc I was gaining weight, not losing. I now log my food and walk 10-12 miles a week. I have also cut way back on sugar, and white carbs due to high sugar and triglyceride…

since we are sharing....

I made a delicious veggie pizza with whole wheat crust for dinner tonight. Homemade pizza can have a whole lot less calories than the pizza shop, plus a lot healthier. Also, when my hubby is eating his snacks I grab a handful of nuts or fruit and greek yogurt it seems to satisfy the snack cravings better than veggies. At…

I am pretty consistent with keeping my sugar low. It's pretty easy when you don't use added sugars and only get the sugar that comes naturally in foods. I do sometimes add honey, but again it's natural sugar. The only time I go over is when I've had too many fruits that are high in natural sugars like peaches! I also eat…

Non food weighing and food weighing people can get along. I am losing weight without a scale and am eyeballing my servings. If the time comes I am not then perhaps I will look at getting a scale. But until then I think it's important that we remember people can do different things and still get results. But just…

Yes and thank you! Totally agree!!

Wow, this has been very enlightening. I am currently 5/7 and at 168 I wear a size 14 or L dress. Sometimes, depending on how the fit is I need to go higher...so I don't buy the dress! ;-)

I do not have an NSV's yet, but it was so encouraging to read through some of yours!

Hi everyone! I am a 53 year young grandmother to 4 children (13,9,5, and 4 mos), and mother to two grown, married sons. I've been married for 32 years. I've never had too much of an issue with weight, and always tried to eat healthy for the most part. But in 2005 I was in a car accident and I have had chronic pain since…

I went on vacation last month and was worried since we had decided to eat out every night for dinner. (vacation means I don't have to cook!) Anyway I just made wise, healthy choices when I could, when I couldn't I just didn't worry about it. I even had dessert twice. (I've cut out added sugar) We were at the beach and I…

So agree! Healthy not "skinny". Sounds like you have a good plan. I am doing much of the same! Keep going!

I started peri-menopausal symptoms in my early 40's. It could be that...hormonal changes can affect weight loss/gain. But I would get checked too. Thyroid issues run in my family and I have been tested every so often. I've never had an issue until recently, it's low, but not low enough to worry about just low enough to…

Don't give up! My goal for now is 150 I'll see how I feel and go from there. I would love to see at size 26 inch waist again but that is where ALL my weight is so I hardly doubt it! :-)

Sigh....my only point was that people always want "evidence" but even if you give it they will find some other "evidence" that says you are wrong or the numbers are wrong. Bottom line is people will believe what they want to believe. They will do what they want to do. I only know how my body felt before and after giving up…

for me personally I use no added sugar unless it's natural, therefore I use honey. Also there is this...https://rebeldietitian.us/eat-clean/sweeteners/

Like science always has it right? Regardless of what side you are on scientist can make numbers say what ever they want... http://www.medicaldaily.com/diet-soda-vs-regular-soda-one-worse-you-other-308063 also read.... http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/healthy-drinks/soft-drinks-and-disease/

Wow. I don't eat any (except a rare occasional taste) processed sugar or added sugar. I mean seriously who is going to pass up a bite of birthday cake! lol Anyway I often go over my sugar due to fruit and veggies which have it naturally. If it's naturally found in food I don't worrying too much about it....but I also don't…

I gave up all soda years ago and don't miss them at all. Don't switch to diet....Diet is worse than regular soda people! But a friend of mine drinks carbonated water instead of soda and says it helps her with the cravings.
