My 12 year old (7/8th grader) is homeschooling this year. One of the resources we use is this awesome free nutrition tracker called myfitnesspal.com

Nobody told me about the tricky dynamic around whether or not and how to offer support/guidance/advice to people who talk about being too fat like it's something they might want to change. You know? There are a bunch of people where I work who never knew me heavy and they'll be like "oh, I'm too fat, but you wouldn't know…

Oh Hey! I didn't do it, by the way. Still working on those last five pounds. But still, 45 lbs in 500 days might not be as round and pretty as 50, but I'll tell you this, I'm less round and more pretty than I was 519 days ago. Plus, I got back in the habit of working out regularly, adjusting my intake to match my activity…

Mine's totally vain: I was at the counter at the DMV and an attractive young man was at the window next to me. I looked over at him and expected him to look over at me in that, you know, appreciative and open way people do when you're cute. He didn't. Then I got my license picture taken and saw what he saw. That was day 1…

I kissed a guy and he picked me up off the ground. Both are NSV's.

Hooray for you!

Nice!! You look really great :) I remember you from last year, when I was just starting out, too.

Just a big bowl of frozen berries with soymilk poured over. nom nom nom. with granola for extra sweet and a little crunch.

As a former dive master I know what you mean; by whatever combination of factors we must use significantly more energy diving than not diving, even though it doesn't feel like a work out per se. I second the notion of just tracking your calories carefully and using that to estimate the extra burn. i.e. if you're losing…

Started a new job. When guys there talk to me I assume they're flirting, because I'm so hot now. Also, I have to stand in one place all day and I think that's way easier than it would be if I didn't work out.

hey swaby! I work swing shift (8p to 4a) and it's not that different from anyone else when it comes to eating. I just log my pre- and post-shift meals and the snacks I pack to eat at work like any other food. You can set your diary so it names your meals whatever you want, I stuck with "Breakfast" "Lunch" "Dinner" and…

oh man, I've so been there. The thing I learned for myself, that might apply to you, too, is that there's no way to cheat your way to fitness. If I want to look and feel like a person who gets plenty of exercise, I'm gonna have to actually do the exercise. If I want to look and feel like a person who does yoga every day,…

I lost a ton of weight back in the day without counting calories. I did it by working out regularly and always being at least a little bit hungry. unfortunately in my case that turned into disordered mentality, since I just kept trying to be hungrier until finally my will gave out and I started binging and gained a ton of…

ITA. I hadn't thought about it before but a little belly belies confidence and equilibrium, and that totally turns me on. For some reason I'm also a sucker for a tucked-in shirt, but I never go out with people who tuck their shirts in. I just like to look at them. Especially really slender women with low-rise dress slacks…

My guess? you're fine. and you won't see a drop like that again, unless you gain a bunch of weight again and have to start over. If you lose eight pounds in the second week, too, that would worry me.

You look terrific. Nice dog, too. Congratulations, and thanks so much for sharing.

Jeeze you're fast! How embarrassing!

(I can't be the only one with Beastie Boys in my head right now.)

A bright red "I heart sriacha" t-shirt, women's cut, size medium(!), that my then boyfriend got for me years ago. It's still pretty nervy for me to wear it, double-D's, cap sleeves, and all, but I think I can finally pull it off.

Congratulations! Thanks for the inspiration.

Every day, and I use an online app that charts the trend. I highly recommend it. I used to only weigh weekly, but it was really frustrating because sometimes those little snapshots told the wrong story.
-
OP, you and I are almost exactly the same height and weight and I wear a US 10 or 12. If you're wearing and 8, you're legit denser than me. Even so, people always guess my weight lower than it is. I've hypothesized that it's because, like you said, people forget that "curves" add weight. My boobs alone weigh 9lb. Plus…

ketchup on salad, btdt. for me it was beans, not eggs on top, though.

You need to eat less than you burn to lose weight. Even if you're eating less than you burn, you might see temporary gains and stalls over the short term, like days and weeks, but you'll lose weight in the long term.

Oh yeah, you can get heavier eating at a deficit...temporarily. Here's my weight chart for the past few months. The dots are my daily post-morning-pee weigh-in weights, the red line is the trend the website calculates. I eat at a deficit every day, but my weight swings up and down with my cycle, and other factors. The…

I put veggie hot dogs on my salads. Oh, and sometimes I'll heat up half a can of refried beans mixed with salsa and dip raw broccoli in it. Sounds nuts-o, but I actually like it. Sprinkle on a little nutritional yeast and it's even better. That's just normal food, though. Back in the day when I was into bigger deficits…

I got carded. I think I look at least 10 years younger than I did 25lb ago.

Yowch. No, I haven't had exactly that experience, and if I did, yeah, I'd feel hurt. I hereby deem it appropriate for you to let your DH, mom, etc. know that your past self is still part of you and you'd rather they not insult "her" in front of you.

I can finally cross my legs both ways.

MFP will estimate your calorie goal for you. That number will almost certainly work for weight loss. I don't tend to pay attention to my macronutrient balance numbers, I just aim for what feels right in my body. My diary is open if you want to see what that means for me...but everyone's body is different. (p.s. if you see…
