  • aftershoks trekz titanium. Best running phones I have used in years.
  • Ran a new PB in a 5K race today! 24+minutes beats my old 5K PB by a minute and my time for the same race last year by 4 minutes! Also earned me a 1st place for my group!
  • May 20th was the Joplin Memorial Marathon. I ran the half. Overall I was very happy with my run effort for this. I didn’t PR, but that’s OK. This was my 2nd half marathon race, ever. My first was 6 weeks ago and I finished with a time of 1:56:31, and I finished today at 1:58:48 which put me at a respectable 15th out of 42…
  • Running in the Joplin memorial marathon (running the half) tomorrow. Good chance its going to be raining but storms should be gone by then.
  • @Wendy98 that is an incredible run! Congrats to you for a PR!
  • you should really talk to your doctor. There are a lot of things that can cause back pain, and if its been this long it should be evaluated.
  • dump the banana to begin and see if that helps. Bananas can cause or at least help along bowel movements in many people. Running can also help move the bowels, so it can be a bad combination. Also pay attention to the amount of fiber you are eating the day before your long runs. Too much can cause these problems.
  • first ever half marathon race report... If this gets long, I apologize. Last year I ran my first race ever at the Oklahoma Aquarium Run, a 5K. So I felt it was appropriate to run my first half at the same event. I spent about the last 4 months training for this race. I spent the 2 days prior drinking copious amounts of…
  • OMG, what a story! Love your write-up. OMG those pics of you finishing!!! :o You look like you've been in a bar fight. You should show people that pic and just tell them "you should have seen the other person" LOL. Thanks for sharing, glad you are OK.
  • Sadly, I am backing out of a 5K run-n-gun biathlon on Saturday. I've been trying to heal some knee pain before my first 1/2 marathon on the 1st.
  • Doesn't matter how fast, what matter is that you did it! I still haven't done my first HM yet, so you are doing far better than I am! Congrats!
  • BLING REPORT. OK, I forgot I can't edit an older post here so I have to make new one, sorry.. Anyway, here are some pics from my race. It was by far the largest event I've ever attended, and also the most fun! Over 2000 people in the just the 10K!!!
  • I really wish the mfp phone app had a way to post pics here, so I'll just have to edit this in couple days. I ran the 10K race of the Los Cabos half marathon on Sunday. The course was described as "flat" but I have no idea what they meant, lol. If that was flat, I would HATE to see a hilly course from them! It was hilly…
  • I signed up last minute for the 10K race in the Los Cabos half Marathon next Sunday. Originally I was going to run it as my first ever half, but then I decided I didn't want the stress. I wanted my vacation to be about relaxing. Then, a couple days ago I went back to the race website, and decided that I would be running…
  • Yeah, thats what I have been doing, but when I get voraciously hungry it can easily turn into a binge and then I completely blow the calorie count out of the water. Like I said before, I am trying to maintain a consistent, reasonable deficit. going -1500 one day to +2000 the next isn't good. I'm not saying that is a weekly…
  • I am going to start making myself eat after those long runs, maybe it will help quell those next day desires to eat everything in the house. Plus, its just not healthy to burn that many calories and not replace them. I'm trying to maintain a reasonable calorie deficit, not 1500 for a day, which yes does happen on long run…
  • OK, yes I have the same "day after" hunger!
  • How does it know what music cadence to set to? Do you have to have a specific cadence measurer or does it base it off your split times?
  • Using them to lose weight is a failing proposition. I highly recommend that you take a few days and read everything you can about dietary ketosis and keytones. Here's a quick version to get you started.... Keytones are the fuel your body creates from fat (dietary or body) when you run out of carbohydrates. This is called…
  • Congrats on your success! Feels great doesn't it! I remember when I tried to put on my suit (I dont wear one often) and it swallowed me so I had to go buy a new one. It felt soooo good to buy something normal sized!
  • It depends on your goal. Are you training for a 5K race or something similar, or are you just wanting to improve? When training for a goal, you will typically alternate your runs. Once a week go for an easy pace but longer distance, once or twice a week you train for speed by doing interval runs (aka fartleks), and then…
  • I think this applies more to older guys like myself. My last pair was close to 600 when I retired them and I was developing ITB problems and knee pains. As soon as I changed shoes the problems went away, reinforcing the concept of the replacement miles. Then I go to races and I see these kids (teens and early 20s) with…
  • same as everyone else: running shoes are for running ONLY, and I run outside. Retired shoes become gym and walking shoes, after that they become everyday or junk shoes. I have specific training shoes and race shoes.
  • This is half true. If your body is still in the carb burning mode, you will run out of fuel and hit the proverbial wall. Once you have been low carb, especially if you are keto, long enough then your body becomes fat-adapted and converting fat to sugar is it's natural process. You don't have a "wall" to hit here. Your body…
  • There are a lot of factors that go into every aspect of bodily functions and the heart is no different. nutrient levels, electrolytes, hydration, ambient temp and humidity, caffeine intake, sleep, time of day, what you have done physically prior to that workout... and on and on.
  • You through it by focusing on what you have to. Maybe its finishing the next mile, or half mile or maybe just getting to the top of the next hill. When it really sucks you just focus on taking one step after another until you've reached your goal. Pride comes from conquering something that is extremely difficult. If it was…
  • most of what you see on Amazon is from stand-alone companies so searching other online stores will most likely be showing you the same things. I like "gone for a run" but they are also selling through amazon. I have shark socks and beer socks from them. Happy with both.
  • Training for my first half marathon in the first of April. 2016 was my first year to enter any race. That first 5K went well so I did another and then a 10K and a couple virtuals. After the 10K, I decided to try training for a half and will run it in the same race I ran my first 5K last year.
  • Most low carb recipes are NOT low calorie. In fact, most of the ones I copy have more calories than the regular full sugar version, but they have only a tiny fraction of the carbs and non of the sugar. Most "low calorie" diet foods are low on fat and stuffed with fiber.
  • Good for you Moby, 1st in your group is a great result. Cold and windy runs suck, so congrats for getting out there and doing it! Love the hat and bling, they look great.
