@jbrack381us, thanks for the clarification. I am certain to get out and do some miles before I start to wobble like a turkey. :p
-
A Turkey Trot is a great idea. Don't know if I will be able to join you as we have family coming in from out of state. I hate to run with them because they are way fast. However I am old and treacherous so that evens the odds. ;)

Brian, hope DS1makes you proud. No running today. More yard work instead. Such a glorious day!
-
Not on topic, but today was one of the most beautiful running days of the year. Cool dry air and gorgeous Fall Foliage make the run a joyous event. I wish everyday was like today. Reality check. Winter is coming.

I think the most I have ever paid for a race is under $35. I am not a big fan of the boutique races that can charge upwards of $100. But if there is a big fancy metal at the end, that does push the buttons for me.

I have a nerd lamp (read: head lamp) that works very well for running. I see a lot of folks out there with them so I'm not alone. I've not run in the dark yet but when I do, I wear reflective gear and lights. I also don't listen to music so I can be "sound aware" of approaching traffic. Fall is definitely my favorite…

I think everyone's watching the baseball games. But you're right. Sure is quiet out there.....too quiet....

Congrats on starting your running life! C25K is an excellent program that emphasizes fun and sustainability. Remember to post often of your successes and travails. Runners are a great bunch of folks. :)

@gagdetgirl, a BIG WTG! Awesome accomplishment. Very proud of you.

Somebody add a grind and this thread will get interesting.

I was very sad to read that our dear friend and Mentor, Dennis Reynolds had passed away in June. I did not know it. He was a very kind man and his love for Life showed in his running and his support of others. His passing makes us all the poorer for it. Thank you my friends here for sharing this sad news with me.

Good luck with the Chicago Marathon! That's super cool.

I run because there's a fat guy chasing me.

I have never done a big City race. I have run the Quad City Half Marathon and suppose that is medium City. But there are about 25000 people at the Bix 7 mile race. That was a lot of fun and a great party. Basically I consider races to be a reward for training. It's still hard for me to really enjoy having a cold beer at 10…

I have not been listening to music for a couple of years at least. Nothing against it really. I usually run with the DW and am required by all the laws that are holy to listen to her every word.

I used to have a good firm foam roller that I use regularly on my sore hip. It has disappeared into the same place as that one sock goes. Hopefully I can find it sometime. No running plans for the weekend. College football instead. Everybody have a great weekend and have some fun! B)

I run because there is a fat guy chasing me. And I think he's gaining. :s

The temperature does not make as much difference to me as does humidity. We had a very hot and humid summer and I found it very difficult to run continuously with consistency. However, I found that occasional lock brakes did allow me to finish any scheduled to run I want it to do. As long as I finish the distance I don't…

Jim, I am not a moderator but I see no harm in starting any thread of Interest. In my opinion, go for it. ;)

I still track points on Weight Watchers website mainly because I have saved as a favorite most of the food I regularly eat. I have not figured out this site yet to see if I can do the same. If that is possible I probably will drop my Weight Watchers subscription entirely.
-
I pretty much run at a very slow pace so I try to maintain that case. However when it is very muggy as it has been much of this summer I will intersperse a block of walking in about every mile or so. That gives me enough time to cool down so I can start again.

I used to be religious at stretching but I have completely stopped. I don't do much cross training other than relaxation bike riding. I have plenty of room to improve. :)

As a missing in action member, it is great to see so many old friends are still active in this healthy community.

One of the pluses of using the same route as that they know where to find me if I get injured. It hasn't happened yet but I like to plan ahead. A positive outlook and all that rot. Also on a non root I know where the loose dogs and other hazards that are so I can mentally Coast during the other parts of the route.

I don't have a specific comment on that topic. Just checking in to say good afternoon to my house. Had a great run today. It's amazing how much easier it is to run when the temperature is 10 degrees cooler

Just in from 4 miles. One of the best ones I've had in a long time. The heat has finally relaxed a little bit in the Midwest and that makes a big difference. I did however sacrifice the whining and complaining points. I think everyone is happy.
-
I think the heat index was somewhere near the surface of Mars. Got in 3.7 miles with a lot of whining and complaining. I think the whining and complaining is worth extra points.

CalBrian, glad to see you are still alive. We'll all have to explain what our new avatars are!
-
Hey Jack and Glennon! Sorry I've been absent. Still running but my new job doesn't let me access this site during work hours so I can only post rather late. Still, I miss all the fun we used to have here so I'm going to make an effort.

"I ain't dead yet" Python, Monty Good to see so many friendly faces. Gotta figure out how to add an avatar to my name. I'm searching under "George Clooney" but better looking
