  • I am not much good at the community side of MFP but want to get a bit better I started at 300lbs and aiming to get to 150. I have lost 58lbs so far this year so only 17lbs to my half way point. I am in the UK :)
  • wow that was so good to read - sounds like an amazing experience. I am 46 and still got a fair amount of weight to lose, and have just started on my first proper attempt at weightlifting and am on week 3 of NRLFW and loving it - but your post helps quash my fears that I am being a bit silly starting this at my age and…
  • before I started on NROLW I booked a one off session with a personal trainer and went through all the exercises in sets A & B and worked out a sensible weight - and more importantly went over correct form. I have terrible problems with my knees and so I am building the weight up slowly to make sure I am not overloading too…
  • you are looking fantastic - I did the proud mate boast to my workmates and was showing them your photos and am very chuffed to call you a friend - you have done so well, just by eating good food and I just love reading your diary :) - looking forward to seeing your final before and after and all the chat along the way :) xx
  • I have quite a few people at my workplace that saw and heard how enthusiastic I was after doing the Tough Mudder - to the point where lots of people are now going to do a 5k obstacle race in May when they have never done anything like it - they are all approaching it different ways but nearly all are exercise focused. - so…
  • I used to get regular 1000 calorie burns when I was over 300lbs - now I am close to 200lbs I push for 600 cals for the hour. I still work as hard, it is just getting harder as I lose weight - but I used to do just cardio and now I do a huge range or activities including running, kettlebells, free weights, hillwalking and…
  • A lot of people seem to associate exercise with weight loss rather than food - if I am asked - and only if I am asked - I will just tell them that abs are made in the kitchen. I told someone just yesterday that they could do 1000 sit ups every day but if they still ate all the sugar and crap then it wasn't gonna help -…
  • 1st ep looked not too bad, liked all the one-liners :)
  • yes same here - one of my lads sneered at it and I said but it's Joss Weedon - "who" he says ! after an education him and then he said yeah it should be good then
  • Add me if you like - just did my first Tough Mudder a few weeks ago and loved it to bits - can't wait till next year so currently roped 9 other people into the Deerstalker Race in January - I am puny at lifting but it's a work in progress (but do kettlebells) I do gym but I also hill/mountain climb and walk and anything…
  • do you mean like have it showing and every time the word "shiny" is used you have to do 5 burpees? every time Jane loads up his gun or grabs ammo 10 jumping jacks?
  • haha - laughed out loud - love your apparent attempts at orphaning your child - death by Gillian - hmm I swear you are not alone in thinking she is out to kill us really lol
  • I have mine set at 1600 I am 5ft 2" and aged 46, my average TDEE (taken from my fitbit from a full year's stats) is 2778. I have tried eating more calories and less calories and more exercise, less exercise, weights, HIIT, intervals, running, climbing, walking - you name it and in the last year I have only lost about…
  • But maybe if that is the moment that makes someone realise they have to do something for their own sake and the sake of their children - is that not a good thing? - it is a bitter, humiliating pill to swallow but has probably triggered a lot of success stories?
  • I think the recovery week is an automatic built in thing as it just popped up at the beginning of a week's targets. I do have rest days - it is the FT80 I have and it sets 3 different levels of intensity each week working in low, moderate and high heart rates with calorie and time targets. I am training for climbing Ben…
  • ha- of course -thanks Azdak, you would think someone would come up with something that would be able to give you a ballpark sort of estimate. so, basically solid state kinda accurate (ish) ignore any cals reported from strength sessions and take it with a pinch of salt for any other cardio. I still love my hrm for…
  • I just used the formula above and the calories are actually a bit higher using it than my HRM is giving (by about 100-150 cals on some sessions) I used it on different training logs from hiking, strength/bootcamp type workout and straight cardio. hmm I guess I am still getting healthy regardless, just want to get better…
  • I am still very overweight, but have always been curvy regardless, it is just getting a bit more pronounced as I shed the lbs :)
  • Thanks - I am slowly coming around to the same conclusion, so just looking for logic behind it as I am quite a slave to my statistics so I need to get that thinking turned on its head a bit.
  • I know my calorie burn has decreased as from my biggest size (well over 300lbs) compared to now I really can't get the same burns I used to (sigh lol)
  • I had been using my calorie burns from my hrm to gauge my fitness improvement - but I have also been using the calorie burns provided as a guide as to what I need to put back in for fuel - but it's not working and I have been tinkering like mad to work out what I was doing right before that I am not doing now as in the…
  • My progress is slow too - it came up to 600 days logged on my feed and on checking back I realised that I lost 70lbs in the first year and in the last 11 months I have only lost 17lbs - I was a bit gutted about this until all my MFP mates reminded me of the level of fitness I have now - and that even although I have not…
  • I am taking part in the August one (in Scotland) it will be my first and I hope it won't be my last lol - I am not at the peak of my fitness yet - still a work in progress - but it just seems such a life affirming, mad thing to do - I just thought "what the hell" lol it is about the participating, not the best, first over…
  • I thought my most embarrasing moment was when I was going like a madwoman on the rowing machine to reach a certain distance within the time - pulled too hard and went shooting off the back of the seat. landed on my bum behind the machine, with my trainers still in the stirrups - then I just burst out laughing at myself -…
  • This thread is a great reminder of the determination that sets in when that lightbulb moment switches on in your head. I was starting to prepare for going to college - hard enough being a mature student and knew I would have to wear jeans and trainers for getting around campus, but realised the jeans I had were far too…
  • excellent NSV - was laughing at you having to check with 6 different towels before you accepted it - nice victory :)
  • very well done :) excellent time.
  • I am 46 and find the weight isn't shifting but I am getting fitter and slimmer all the time - I am (trying to be) more focused on healthiness rather than a number on the scales I have been on MFP for a while and like to get and give support and motivation.
  • Thanks very much for the replies - training for a longer distance sounds logical when I think about it - I wasn't sure about the benefits of increasing my speed - just vaguely aware that I feel I could run faster - I am beginning to think about a half marathon next year - can't even believe that is even a long term goal…
  • haha I hadn't thought about it that way - I like the fact that the distance is signposted for you so you know how far you have got to go lol - that is a great distance to run - I am usually a walker so I do chalk up the miles - just trying to do it faster now :)
