  • I did the C25K program last year and loved it. I was @215 lbs. It was the 3rd attempt :blushing: but the charm because I completed it and ran a 5K race. It really is a great program - unfortunately I could not lose weight on it. I think I need more strength training with the cardio so I am doing both now. I just restarted…

  • Marla - Way to go girl! I'm so sorry you have to go through this. If anyone can get their metabolism straightened out, you can. You rock. What a long journey - you are such an inspiration though. Standing up for yourself and not letting the medical system write you off. I'm proud of you and hope you find what will work for…
  • Congratulations Mary!! That is awesome. Keep it up - you will be the picture of health soon :flowerforyou:
  • I would suggest drinking lemon water - it is a great diuretic, plus you're still drinking water. Also asparagus is a natural diuretic and will help flush out excess water. Eat very low sodium for 48 hours before the weigh in and lots and lots of veggies. I would suggest limiting or cutting out the grain carbs and potato…
  • ^^ What she said. That is the easiest way to count your actual carbs.
  • Log it as strength training under the cardio section and you'll be good to go.
  • That happened to my step-dad last year too. Although I don't think he had to eat spoonfuls of salt. When they got his levels back up, the he started retaining water from the nursing home food. Poor guy! I hope your m-i-l gets better quickly! We need to remember that our bodies need some sodium to function properly as well…
  • Way to go!! You look fantastic!
  • Unless your diabetic, and as long as your reasonable as SHBoss pointed out, you will be fine. You could consider adding some lower sugar fruits - like berries to the mix also. If you are diabetic, you would need to limit the fruit more.
  • Spinach is high in iron, but you have to have citric acid with it in order for the iron to be absorbed. So spinach salad with strawberries or oranges or spinach and tomatoes will work well. Good luck!
  • When I did C25K last year, I did what I called Week 3A. I increased the running time from week 3 but didn't go the 5 mins of week 4 yet. I think I did the 3/1.5 run/walk x 3 for the 3 days, then moved on to week 4 the next week and it was much easier. Gotta give the cardiovascular system a little time to increase it's…
  • Yep - diagnosed 6 1/2 years ago. It's a challenge, but when you get your tsh levels corrected it helps alot! You will be able to lose weight, but it's a little harder. Until the tsh levels are corrected, it is very difficult to lose weight though. Still - keep up with yoru healthy lifestyle. It helps in the end. It's…
  • Very cool Toots! That is amazing!! :drinker:
  • You look fab-u-lous!!!! Way to go!
  • Pan frying is different than deep fat frying. :) You wouldn't be adding extra fat by putting it into a hot pan and frying it that way.
  • I don't think anybody is saying not to question doctors or diagnosis or whatever. But maybe when somebody comes off sounding very extreme we should question them too before jumping on the bandwagon. This type of eating disorder cannot even be clinically diagnosed as it is not in the DSM - but is it part of the lesser known…
  • Really bad idea to weigh after exercising! You will always be up a couple of lbs. And remember every 8 oz of water you drink weighs 1/2 lb. Maybe wait and recheck in the a.m. before exercising, drinking, etc. Or better yet, on your regular day! Just try to watch the sodium the night before. :flowerforyou:
  • You just made me drool! That sounds so yummy!

  • That is a very extreme way of looking at the original study, article whatever. I read the original article. This guy is really going to the extreme with his paranoia. In my humble opinion! The original article did talk about that particular "mental illness" but it was much more than just watching what you eat and being…
  • I love riding horses
  • That looks yummy. I've made watermelon juice before, to use up watermelon. Will have to try it with rum! When I make the juice, I just blend the watermelon and add a little ice. Very refreshing!
  • Good luck on your new diet??? How about hope you have success with your lifestyle change - if it's a "diet" it will always ultimately fail. ALWAYS!!! If you don't permanently change how you eat, you will gain back what ever you lose with what ever magic you try. to the op - you are making a wise decision to go the…
  • Welcome Lain! Glad you found us - as far as being stupid hungry, maybe plan some small snacks mid morning/afternoon. String cheese, if you have some or a small amount of nuts. You can work them in, also make sure you have protein with your breakfast, it will help it "hold" longer. Going over on protein and fiber is a good…
  • I was going to do the Freedom 5K here in Billings - but I have to go pick up my daughter from camp. Hope everyone has fun on their holiday races!
  • Marla - you're amazing! Sometimes I still think you channel my husband's aunt Marla that passed away on 2007. But you are wonderful and the way you have taken control of your health is incredible. You go girl!
  • I  my Polar FT 6 - just like the above poster except mine you can change the battery yourself, unless you are using it underwater. It was $109 at a local sporting good store. I really like it - it also tracks up to 99 workouts. :drinker: I should probably start using the thing again
  • Spinach is great - a couple of us got into the discussion last year about spinach and iron and in the research it came out that you have to have citrus with it to absorb the iron. So a spinach salad with strawberries or orange slices is great. I also think we found out that if you use cider vinegar on cooked spinach that…
  • Woohoo! Sounds like a great night for you. Glad I wasn't on the other side of the net :drinker:
  • Wow. I'm sorry you have to sit by and watch that happen. It doesn't sound healthy at all, but it sounds like she's determined. I hope she doesn't do permanent damage to her body. I can totally understand her desperation, but I hope she figures out she needs to try something healthier before it's too late!
  • If you're a size 1 or 3, honey you are not anywhere NEAR overweight!!!! Maybe the reason you can't lose very much is because it is mostly muscle and you don't really want to lose too much of that!
