  • I'm in if there is room. I definitely need some motivation!
  • Many physicians do not have nutritional education - I'd ask for a second opinion, and/or go see a nutritionist. Your health is your greatest asset. Short-term weight loss will definitely happen, but long-term will not. I've kept off 70 pounds for 20 years - by eating well. Please take care of yourself.
  • Hi, Before you begin eating more calorie dense foods, I would look into how you are calculating your calorie burn. Perhaps investing in a heart rate monitor might be an option. I burn 600 calories an hour doing very intense spin or running. I do believe one can burn 600 doing zumba if he/she is totally into it for the…

  • I really wish I could do this. I can't figure out a safe way to travel to work on my bike. Have fun! If our roads were safe and more conducive to alternate transportation, we'd all be better off.
  • I'm a few pounds above what I would like to be this summer. I considered not wearing my bikini but decided that I need to appreciate my body NOW, not WHEN.... Also, no one else cares as much as I do. So, I stand proud, put my shoulders back and walk proud. :) You look fabulous. If you walk with confidence, you will look…
  • This sounds silly - but I try to think like a thin fit person. I've lost 70 pounds and kept it off for 20 years, with three kids in the mix. When I would put on a few pounds, I would get my mindset back to thinking like a thin person - which, for me, means - I can enjoy the foods I love but eat them responsibly; I feel…
  • I only eat breakfast if I am up an hour before working out. Since I workout at 5:15, I usually work out on an empty stomach. I think you have to find what works for you and your body. Try a few different things, but limit the quantity. Sometimes, if I'm up at 4ish, I'll eat a small bowl of cereal and then eat breakfast…
  • Jambalaya in the crockpot. Yum!
  • Well, I have three 'babies' - 20 year old son, 17 year old son, and 15 year old daughter. I exercised hard with every single one of them all the way to the very last minute- almost delivering two of them while exercising (but not because of the exercise). And - I have to say - they are brilliant! :) And I am not at all…
  • Although it is not my preference, try to eat chunk light tuna instead of solid white. It has much less mercury in it.
  • I have both also - I like to see my heart rate, etc. from the hrm but the overall activity level from the fitbit. Besides, sometimes it is good to get a little extra motivations. :)
  • SW: 133 CW: 137 GW: 132 1/1 137 1/8 136.2 I fluctuate between 136.5 and 135.0 - which it would fluctuate 5 pounds lower. :)
  • I do both. Sometimes I find that counting calories because all-consuming. During those times I try to be very mindful rather than counting. However, I do probably eat more than I think I am when I am not counting. Do what works for you, realizing that you can vary your method. Good luck!
  • I think the only time people roll their eyes is when the 'newbies' aren't respectful or mindful of what they are doing. Newbies are great! Go and be proud.
  • corned beef and cabbage - the last supper requested by my son before his wisdom teeth come out tomorrow.
  • I just made vegetarian tacos with minced cauliflower and diced mushrooms - before you go yuck - my son who doesn't like mushrooms at all - not even the look of them, loved it. He didn't know mushrooms were in there! It was so good - I am going to make the combination again, but with different seasonings.…

  • I hear you. I have, for years and years, exercised early morning. Now, I am on the cusp of having my two youngest children finishing high school and going off to college. I find I am reevaluating my priorities and my schedule. Yes, I LOVE getting my work out in at 5 am. What I don't like is being so tired at 6 pm when I am…
  • That is fabulous! You must feel so wonderful. Running is hard and to go out there and do not only one but two, with two miles walked! Woo hoo! You rock! I'm 46 and in the best physical shape in my life - I'm proud of you for conquering that mile. We only get better with age. Great job!
  • I keep starting Insanity, but I dont' keep up with it because I run and/or spin daily. Has anyone successfully done Insanity at the same time as other cardio? I tried to do Insanity on a running day but my knees began to hurt. I may need to decide how much I want to do it. :/
  • Wow. I am not sure I would trust that heart rate monitor. I burn 600 calories in 60 minutes of running hills. It sounds like the treadmill is more on target, sorry to say.
  • What kind of exercise are you doing? Those are symptoms I get when my heart rate is too high, but we would need more information. Have you tried slowing down or backing off a little? I'm not sure if that is the problem, though, without hearing more.
  • I have 'taught' many people to run over the years. the most common mistake is that they run too fast. Endurance is one thing - and you have gotten some great advice on how to build endurance. I would also encourage you to slow down. When I first started running decades ago (!) I walked faster than I ran. But I didn't feel…
  • Me! Whenever I track calories, I gain weight. :/ I think the focus on food is not good for me personally. I know some people that it is critical for, but for me it doesn't work. I prefer to pay attention to what I want to eat and stop when I am satisfied.
  • Update - he did so great! He slept most of the afternoon, then wanted to go to the pool to sit and watch. Had Rita's italian ice twice that day (250 calories for a regular - less for sugar free, though). He woke up yesterday morning and was fine. No pain medication after that. Now he is eating regular things. I wish you a…
  • I'm about to leave in 5 minutes to take my 17 year old son to get all four of his out. :( I'm going to buy bags of peas (as ice packs) and some sorbets. I am also going to get him Rita's italian ice today if he feels like it. I'll post later if I have any good hints. Good luck!
