  • I tried Zumba and realized that's no way for me to burn calories. I can't dance like that, just look like a dork and don't burn many cals. Spinning or eliptical then weights burns a great deal for me.
  • I come back here every now and then to reset myself. I can get a little out of control and once I start recording what I'm eating and drinking (oh the glorious wine kills me!) I realize I need to be more accountable. After all, at 53 it's damn hard just maintaining!
  • Hi all. I'll be 51 in April, live in NoCal, and I'm still wanting to wear a 2 pc swim suit this summer. I may finally have to give it up. I've been w/MFP for quite some time but have taken a break since I reached my goal weight but find that goal weight at 50 doesn't necessarily equate to a nice figure. I exercise pretty…
  • It must have something to do with hormones since it's such a universal problem. Hard not to look like a barrel at 50 unless you are vigilant about diet and exercise. Definitely hard to find jeans that fit properly unless they're from the Mom-Jeans sections and I will only go kicking and screaming into those!
  • I just elevated my keyboard and monitor so that I stand while on my computer all day. Feels great! Finally not sitting on my *kitten* day in and day out.
  • You look fantastic! Congrats on all your hard work so far, I look forward to seeing the next phase!
  • Hi Pam! Looks like you've made the decision to make some changes, this is a great site to do just that. It only took me a couple of weeks to get the hang of recording food and exercise. It has really helped me get accountable and has worked to help me lose weight. Feel free to add me as a friend if you like.

  • "Ravages of aging". Wow, that's pretty much how I feel. When I was my young, 50 year olds were OLD. I, however, refuse to go gracefully into stretchy pants and one-piece bathing suits with little skirts on them. You are so right about the domestic routine being at fault. I'm just not as active as I used to be. Not because…

  • Got my first one on my foot on my 40th birthday, just got another on same foot for my 50th birthday. Looking forward to another in 10 years!
  • I'll be 50 in 2 wks, my daughter has hounded me to lift, then lift more. I prefer to mindlessly cardio but I do see that I need to strengthen my bones. A great playlist makes it much better and I have begun to see results. 20 mins cardio, 30-40 mins weights, 20 mins cardio. That's how I do it and I'm starting to enjoy it.…
  • Found 4 pair of jeans folded up in the back of my closed I had outgrown. Fit great now! It's like I went shopping.
  • Hi all! 40 ++ here. 2 more weeks then the big FIVE O. Figured if I couldn't win at fighting age at least I can fight my fat. 11 lbs down since holidays, 6 here at MFP. Love to check in on ppl my age!
  • Wine or vodka with club soda.
  • Yes! Short skirts, even denim, look great!
  • It turns out my daughter has that. I've borrowed it from her and will look thru it this weekend. Thanks!

  • Alas, boobs first, belly last.
  • SO NICE to hear from fellow wine lovers! I, too, averaged a bottle a night. Had to cut that out to eliminate the cals. I started drinking 3 oz wine (red or white) and filling the remainder of the glass with club soda. Started buying cheap wine for this. Amazing! I've been able to cut out the wine completely a few days a…
  • Wine, wine, wine.
  • Ppl vary widely on this topic. Me? I eat my gym cals on wkends if I need to and never force myself during the week. Helps me keep dropping pounds.
  • I have the Polar FT4 and love it, it's my second Polar HRM in about 5 yrs. BTW, I've worn it several times all day to track cals burned. Works for me!
  • Weight Watcher's Cookbook - Classic Beef-Barley Soup, 2 Cups 180 cals!
  • Iron deficiency? Please contact your doctor! This is not age related (as everything else seems to be).

  • Mirena for me as well. Glorious! Metabolism is a bad joke for those of us aging.
  • SALSA! Tomatillo has only 10 cals per 2 tbls
  • Hi Robin! I'm 49 and joined MFP several months ago after being on PeerTrainer for a couple of years. I really like this site better, much easier to track food especially on my smart phone. I just purchased a new Spark People cookbook and have been reading it in the evenings. Great recipes! Feel free to add me as a friend.
  • Hi Dot and welcome to the fight against aging! I'll be 50 in about 3 wks (gasp!) and have lost 10 lbs of the pounds I put on over the last several months, some before I joined MFP. I belong to a gym and love to cook, try to stay on the healthy side of that as much as possible. Feel free to add me as a friend as well.
  • "not-too-strong squash" ?
  • I drink 20 oz while at the gym in the morning and I have a 20 oz tumbler at my desk always full of decaf Bigelow tea. When I get home from work instead of pouring a glorious glass of chardonnay to sip on while I cook, I pour 3 oz wine in a glass and fill with club soda. How about a flavored club soda instead of the cola?
  • Thanks all! I'm using the flaxseed meal and keep the bag sealed in the freezer. I'm going to try it in yogurt today.
