  • I always do the same. I never wash my exercise clothes after each workout unless I have sweated profusely. Normally wash them after every three workouts.. lol I know, stinky but I always let it hang out or air it and it smells fine.
  • To cover 5 miles travelling at 10mph would take 30 mins ;)
  • I'm glad another guy said exactly what I was about to say ;). The weights I lift are embarassingly low compared to some of the ladies here. But I too am working on it :)
  • Please may I ask what is a guarded squat rack? Is this a squat rack "cage"? Is a power rack the same as a "caged" squat rack? Please may I ask what is the advantage of a cage squat rack/power rack?
  • Totally agree with this all the way. Heavy weight lifting is proven to burn twice the amount of calories as cardio, in the same time period. Cardio is good for a healthy heart, circulation, stamina etc, so its still good to do some of this on rest days, inbetween weight training days. Also when you do lift weights lift…
  • Yes definitely take protein after a workout, if you can. Along with carbs too, to replenish your energy levels, otherwise the protein itself will be absorbed for energy instead of being used for muscle growth. A protein supplement along with a banana or some other energy rich food, is ideal after a workout. Don't go for a…
  • You look incredible! Well done ;)
  • Totally agree: Lori has to go!! The way she negatively treated Rick when he was forced to defend himself against Shane, is inexcusable! She has to go. I have no view over Carl really. He can stay in my opinion :) Oh I hope season 3 comes out in October over here in the UK too!! I bet we wont get it until next year though…
  • I personally, as a man, far prefer a lady to have some fat on her stomach as opposed to a firm and flat stomach and apparently most men prefer this too (according to surveys). Its more natural. However if you do want a firm stomach with very little fat, heavy weight training, working every part of the body, focussing on…
  • Hi, I workout at home too :) So quick and easy. If I had to get in a car, drive to a gym, I doubt I would have the same motivation. Whereas working out in my garage is brilliant. Plus I don't have the hassle of any weights I want to work on being in use or hogged by someone else, as is often the case in a gym at busy…
  • Hi protein shakes are very filling but on their own not really good enough to provide enough nutrition when compared to normal food. They work very well in conjunction with weight training as the whey protein is digested very quickly which helps to rebuild muscle tissue. If you want to cut down on fat fast I would…
  • Hi I'm from the south east UK :) Welcome to the site.
  • Hi Rose. I am so sorry to hear you've lost loved ones :(. I lost my father so can relate a little to how you must feel. Its awful. Welcome to MFP :) Well done losing 10lbs since May :)
  • You look sensational! Well done :)
  • You can't beat weight lifting for burning calories. Its known to burn up to twice the amount of calories as cardio in the same time. Also the more muscle you develop the better your body becomes at burning calories too. Heavy weights low reps is best :) This is better than doing light weight and lots of reps. There's a…
  • As mentioned, it is almost certainly muscle weight and also possibly water retension, both of which are normal. Its also normal to actually put on weight when doing workout programs because of the extra muscle weight gained. By chance your body is staying at the same weight, when it replaces fat for muscle. But it could…
  • My wife has naturally curly hair which looks beautiful!! But she always insists on straightening it which still looks lovely of course but no where near as nice as curly!!!! As mentioned above, it doesn't matter what the hair is like at the end of the day - its the face which counts :)
  • You are exactly right: definitely do NOT reduce your carbs if you want to have a long effective workout. Fine to reduce carbs on non workout days but the worst thing to do is reduce carbs on a workout day as you will feel very tired as you experienced and you also wont be able to work your body to its maximum because it…
  • Hi I'm from the south coast near Brighton :)
  • I workout in my garage at home. Saves so much money. Motivation wise I think it is hard to begin with. But once you get into a routine it becomes addictive. I personally bought a cheap set of dumbells and barbell ..didn't really know what I was doing when I first started but looked up and researched on the internet about…
  • That will likely be the creatine in the supplement your son gave you. It's perfectly normal and creatine has also been proven to be beneficial in increasing energy levels by converting ADP into ATP (the science :)) proven to work and very safe. Most supplements branded as "pre-workout" supplements normally always contain a…
  • I would love for my wife to strip on the internet. I think it gives women a LOT of power over the guys who are watching them (quite often without the guys realising) and it can also be a real art too. I think it's a question of confidence though. I would definitely strip on the internet if I knew there was a demand for…
  • I'm a guy and currently workout at home so cant really comment but have been to the gym many times in the past and have several male friends who use gyms regularly and every guy I know would never have a problem women lifting free weights next to them. The gym equipment is for all to use. It is becoming more widely…
  • Hi I'm exactly the same. I refuse to pay gym memberships as they're so expensive over here in the UK. I bought a cheap bench and barbell and two dumbells and for the last 10 year's or so used that three times a week and have saved a fortune :) Still got the same old bench too. It should all last many years if looked after.…
  • Completely agree. You will always get a lot more from free weights as they activate more muscles as mentioned. But machines are a good place to begin if you've never done free weight lifting before. When you are comfortable and know which exercises you want to try have a go with the free weights or try a bit of both until…
  • Ah silly me lol :) I'd personally always take my weight first thing before breakfast, just after waking up and also before drinking anything.

  • As most have said here you need to lift heavy with low reps. You need to aim to lift as much as is comfortable where you are able to lift a maximum of 10 to 12 reps, ideally 6 - 8 reps (no more) before reaching muscle failure. As most have mentioned, it is a complete myth that lifting heavy makes a woman bulk up. You…
  • Hi they say to improve your strength heavy weight training is definitely best, meaning lift as heavy as you can with as few reps as possible and you need to leave at least three minutes between each set. They say as a rule the longer the rest inbetween sets the stronger you get. This is a useful article:…
  • By "weight" if are you talking about weight as in weight lifting Id agree and say be as consistent as possible, and stick at the same weight until you feel stronger and can move up a weight.. Id recommend aiming to lift as heavy as is comfortable where your maximum reps (before reaching muscle failure) are no more than 10…

  • I've been using Muscletech Nitrotech for the last couple of months and I found it to be initially very sweet. However I am coming from an all natural protein shake, which had no sweetners in it and my pallet had become used to no sweetners. That was very bland but I soon got used to it. When I initially moved to…
