  • Thank you, I will check that group out! It's just a bit frustrating when you feel like you're doing loads of work but see no results! It's all down to me changing things though.
  • I was a really sporty kid & teen, but then laziness crept in. By the time I went to Uni, I was eating rubbish but still walking everywhere and doing lots of physical activity so I didn't gain. In the Summer before my final year I met my ex. I was slim, fit, and had just been travelling around Europe. He was very overweight…
  • I wore a dress to a wedding a couple of months ago that I hadn't been able to get into since I was 17 - 10 years ago! The dress looked timeless and not dated at all, so I'd hung onto it in hope one day that I could wear it again. I don't look 17 anymore, but I think I wore it better this time around because I felt so…
  • Thanks for your reply! I tried ringing the gym who gave me the number of the instructor. But when I phoned them I was cut off somehow so tried emailing instead. Hopefully they'll get back to me! On their website they suggest tracksuit pants and a comfy t-shirt. Nothing mentioned about footwear, but from their pic gallery…
  • Twice in my life I have been at my best. First when I was a teen playing lots of sport, mainly badminton, also swimming and learning to sail on holiday in Cyprus gave me an amazing stomach. Then went to Uni and let myself go a bit. Second time was Summer of 2008, travelling round Europe with friends, I could carry a full…
  • I know people who post all over facebook about their weight loss, it works for them because I think they want to make themselves accountable, plus others can spur them on with motivation. I personally wouldn't do that because if I didn't reach a certain goal by a certain time, I would feel I'd let myself down and everyone…
  • You look incredible! Stories like this make me want to try even harder, especially when I'm having a lazy/binge day. Small changes over a longer period of time are much more effective I feel. Well done!
  • I'm 26, 5'2" and currently 140 lbs, (started at 151 lbs) Got about 20 or so to go until I reach the middle range for my healthy height to weight ratio. Mostly I'm trying to control my diet, as snacking on junk has always been my biggest downfall. Though now I'm exercising more too, trying to go for regular walks. But…
  • I remembered another: "Never shop on an empty stomach." When you are hungry in the supermarket, you are more inclined to pick up convenience foods and snacks, which more than likely won't make it past the car park!
  • Pertaining to food, I always say, "I've had an elegant sufficiency." Basically stop eating when you are comfortably full! Pertaining to exercise, I remember a conversation with my sister from some years ago, which I recalled more recently and it helped to kickstart my change:- [General chat about weight and exercise, Sis…
  • I had a bath NSV too! In Jan I my thighs were touching either side of the tub, and now there's a good couple of inches gap either side! The scales weren't promising, but I thrive on visual boosts like this! Another was managing to fit into some pants I bought 2 years ago but have never worn. (I didn't try them on at the…
  • I think a tootsie roll is some kind of cake (I am in UK too so have no clue really!) Like everyone else who has posted, I agree that your friend is being unnecessarily hurtful and you should definitely talk to her, in a calm way. I'm no psychologist, but it seems likely that 1) She doesn't realise the effect her flippant…
  • I prefer digital as my old one was really irritating because the red pin wobbled when I tried to take a reading, and I had to calibrate it before every use. I know digitals are not 100% accurate but I really love the German brand Beurer. They make lots of health & well-being related equipment too (available across Europe…
  • Hope this works - First time posting photos! These are my 'during progress' pictures. (I'm about 5' 2" by the way.) BEFORE: 151 lbs, pretty unhappy with myself and disliked myself in photos (hence why I haven't really got decent pics of me flexing my guns or anything! - and I know it's kind of hard to compare if you don't…
  • I love the German brand Beurer. They make all sorts of fitness equipment, but I find their digital scales the most accurate. Can be a little pricey but worth it for the accuracy/quality.
  • I'm 26, from my start weight I needed to lose 32lbs in total to get back into my healthy BMI height/weight ratio. I'm 10lbs down so far, but when I hit the 32lb goal I'll probably see how I look and feel then, and judge whether or not I need to go a bit more. Trying to tone up as well. For anyone interested, '15 minute…
  • Bumping this. Very wise indeed, and best of all, totally realistic! I'm of a similar mindset, don't deny yourself and make small changes that will make a difference in the long term. If I have a 'bad' food day, I try not to stress about it and have a clean slate the next day to do things better. (So many cliches in my…
  • My Mum has Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (a mouthful I know!) It's genetically inherited high cholesterol that no amount of exercise or diet change will reduce, and having it increases the risk of heart disease and strokes at a young age, (she's had mini-strokes herself) so now she has to take statins. She was told there…
  • I have the Implanon too. I can't totally blame it for my weight gain as there were a number of other factors, but having the implant certainly makes me more lethargic and prone to comfort eating, especially carbs and sweet things. Sometimes I imagine my weight loss accelerating dramatically if I didn't have the implant,…
  • My sister is the healthiest & fittest person I know. She's also on the paleo diet and say's that although exercise is very important, you see the most drastic changes by altering diet alone. When I was only drinking water, my weight loss was boosted, I had more energy, and my skin cleared up! You're making so much sense to…
  • Amazing progress! I'm in the same camp with you about the little changes (i.e. no fizzy drinks.) I lost 4lbs over a couple of months just by cutting out coffee (wasn't really doing exercise back then though.) I've let myself slip a bit over the last couple of weeks, but your words have motivated me to get back on it! Well…
  • You're doing really well, there is definitely a visible overall difference, especially in your face and legs. My thinking is similar to yours regarding small life changes at a time. Get your body used to one small change, then crank it up a notch when you're ready. You've obviously worked hard, so keep going, and also I…
  • I love your story. Similar to me, cut me open and let the chocolate fudge brownie flow! On a much much better path now, thanks to MFP and my sister (she's like my own personal boot camp instructor!) Always up for new MFP friends. Add me if you like
  • Always happy to have new MFP friends. Add me too if you like. That goes for anyone
  • I'm 26 but still 23 in my mind haha! New friends always welcome to help keep me on track! I log in every day too, so feel free to add me
  • Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie! At one stage I could eat a whole tub (averaging one a week when they were on offer) Now as an extra special treat I can manage 1/3 of a tub or one of those mini ones, just to satisfy the craving. Since starting my healthy lifestyle plan, I have gone off choc quite a lot but have the…
  • I'm from the UK and always open to making new friends in the MFP community so feel free to add me if you like. It is encouraging to know that there are people who are going through similar issues and are always supportive. I joined last Monday and I'm already addicted! There's some great advice resources too.
  • I'm 26, hope that still counts as early 20s lol!! I'm about 5' 2" and 147lbs. Got quite a lot of lbs to go before being at my goal, and occasionally have off days, but aiming to be well toned also! Dumbbells are going good so far, I'm already feeling solid biceps and stomach muscles (underneath the fat!) Don't have any…
  • Bio Oil definitely. Needs to be used consistently over a long period of time though. I have stretchmarks on my hips, thighs and back of my knees (yuk!) they'll never go away but they're thin silvery white lines instead of huge thick purple ones. Have faith! :-)
  • It makes me shudder to think how much I used to eat - sometimes a whole packet of choc chip cookies in one sitting! I do feel much better since I made my lifestyle change. The thing is, I didn't even realise I was restricting calorie intake until I signed up here. It's only when you look at everything written down it…
