  • scales are not a very good hour-by-hour or day-by-day measure. even week-by-week they're not that great. you can hold fluid for a variety of reasons, and there are other temporary reasons why your weight may fluctuate. it's important that you don't lose heart when this happens, and keep faith in your diet.
  • if you are 100lbs overweight then there's no doubt that you need to start losing, but in the smaller margin cases people may have just developed as the OP says. Thing is, how would you know? unless you knew your waist/hip/bodyfat etc measurements before, how would you know what change has occurred?
  • agreed. you look younger now.
  • same here. im not an expert, but i believe sugar comes in different types. as i understand it, the natural sugar in fruit isn't as bad as that in a chocolate bar.
  • face then body for me. as for personality, we only bother to find that out if we like what's going on in the face/body departments. nobody deliberately chooses to talk to someone they don't fancy, do they?
  • I was watching a video on youtube of the All Blacks Rugby player Sonny Bill Williams. His stats are: Height: 191cm (6ft 4) Weight: 109kg (240lbs or 17st 2lbs) Body Fat percentage: 6% i thought 6% was supposed to be too low, but there we go. shows what i know. I'm aiming for 10%.
  • get busy losing fat, or get busy being fat! yes, we all know it's tough but it does get easier. exercising is the way to go, but if you're finding it tough just keep eating at a deficit. even if it's only a 200 calories deficit. as you lose more weight, exercise will become easier and you may even start to enjoy it.…
  • i use the scales, tape measure and body fat numbers to try and get a better picture of what is going on. mostly though, i just try to have some faith. if you're eating right, and working out, things will be changing for the better.
  • to be honest, if you go out getting drunk every weekend, you'll probably always be overweight. at some point, you have to make your lifestyle choice. part of the problem is that the average person's idea of a social life means going out and drinking 1000+ calories of alcohol and then some fatty foods on the way home. you…
  • well, i guess he wants a chubby girl. thats how you looked in the beginning and thats what he fell in love with. this will probably take some adjusting for him.
  • it happened to me for the first time a month ago. i got on the scales and had 'gained' 3lbs. i knew i'd done nothing wrong, but inevitably things like 'plateau', 'damaged metabolism' and 'starvation mode' start going through your head. though i had stayed within my calories, i had eaten more sugar than i should have and…
  • if you burn 2000 a day but eat 1500, that means you're on a deficit of 500 calories (roughly in 1lb a week) therefore, if you go to a gym and burn, say, 700 calories you've burnt 2700 that day. that means you could eat 2200 and would still be eating at a 500 calorie deficit. i don't eat all of the calories i burn, because…
  • relax! you definitely haven't gained 1lb in a day with those numbers, it's just water. i find salt, sugar and weightlifting can cause me to hold a bit of water.
  • Hey I don't blame you. Sounds like you have a busy life. That said, you are also 330lbs. The sheer amount of extra weight you are carrying is going to make you constantly tired. Obviously i'm not having a pop at you, because most of us are here because we need to lose weight. I guess i'm just saying "hang in there",…
  • all i can say is that as i've lost weight, they have become far less visible. it actually motivates me to keep going. by the time my bodyfat is at goal percentage, and i've toned up a bit, im sure i will be at peace with them. and besides, wearing a bikini may be a standard dream for a lot of women but not looking perfect…
  • I've had tinnitus for 3 years. It has got steadily better, and obviously I hope it will continue to improve. At night, I am generally able to sleep these days, but occasionally i do still need the radio on. All I have found is that stress, a lack of sleep and stimulants make it worse. I've never tried to take anything for…
  • if MFP is working for you, he should be supportive. at best, he just doesn't understand. At worst, he sounds like he's trying to derail your efforts. of course, if you count calories meal-by-meal you'll constantly be by your pc, and that's not great. i say plan your meals at least 1 day in advance. i actually plan my food…
  • university was a disaster for me on the nutrition front too! fish & chips one night, kebab the next. of course, you're out drinking alcohol quite regularly, and after drinking you are more prone to making bad food decisions. and that's without the damage the alcohol itself does. anyway, i find the key to staying full is to…
  • Nice to meet another NFL fan from this neck of the woods. Being from Wales, Rugby Union is my 1st love and so American Football is just home from home for me. I support the Green Bay Packers.

  • Dieting isn't easy and we all know you will stumble occasionally. However, if you dodge responsibility you will fail.
  • yes, i agree with this. whenever i start feeling less satisfied, i get some protein in my diet because it makes me feel fuller for longer.
  • i'm no expert, but i think you may need to consider the idea that maybe 800 is too few calories. MFP does state a minimum of 1200. i hate to turn out alarmist terms like 'starvation mode', but i think 800 is very low and so it may be worth thinking about. but again, im no expert so maybe you need to ask around and maybe…
  • so basically he's saying he wants you to keep eating the same stuff that got you 100lbs overweight, despite the fact the doctor has instructed you to do otherwise? I guess he won't be happy if you cook healthy meals for you all either, which basically means he is trying to nag you into eating unhealthy food. i don't doubt…
  • well it's true, nobody buys a nice personality a drink. physically i like a variety of body types and don't have a type. i think if you eat healthily and keep active, any body type has its assets. one of my bugbears with magazine covers is that the girls always seem to be one specific body type. anyway, beyond that, i…
  • if it's any consolation, you've got a lot more courage than i have. you won't even find me putting a profile pic on here, and even on my facebook there is only 1 pic of me which somebody else put up. that said, i now wish i had taken a pic of me at my very heaviest just to use as a comparison. so anyway, you're doing great.
  • well, i think the term describes people with a good BMI but fat body fat percentage? truth is, if you get rid of 'skinny-fat' people will just call it something else which rolls of the tongue. at this moment, i would say i am skinny-fat. it's just a quick way of describing my predicament.
  • you know, i still like to assemble lego sets occasionally. i was in denmark a while back with a friend, and he likes to build lego sets as well. anyway, there was this big lego store in copenhagen and we went in. he picked up a lego version of the millennium falcon (star wars space ship thingy), and as we were both looking…
  • i think you just switch your goal to 'maintain weight'?
  • this is fantastic. I'm checking out a hot 22 year old girl, and i can, without any guilt, write this off as 'weight loss motivation material' :D
  • from my perspective, a man, i like it that my thighs no longer touch. it could be a bit painful after running, and it's just easier. that said, my legs do look a bit 'twiggy' so i'll have to get on the weights and bulk them up slightly.
