  • I find that I make up for the days I've not been hungry a couple of days later. All of a sudden I will wake up ravenous! I am a great believer in eating when you're body tells you to, not when a number says you should.
  • When we get take away I always get a veg option as a side. For example, I'll get a chicken curry or a king prawn dish from the Chinese, but i'll also ask for a portion of stir fried veg with very little oil for the side. Even if it's not on the menu, I find that people are generally willing to help if you ask nicely. It's…
  • If you're in it for the long haul, make it easier! Shift to 1600 cals a day- you will still get reasonable weight loss. Exercise as much as you can but rest when you're body tells you it's fatigued (which it invariably will, I always know when I need to stop pushing on and have a day or two off). Make small, sustainable,…
  • I've not drank regular soda in years, I just don't get why I'd want to throw those empty calories into myself. I always try to have salad instead of fries when possible (steal two or three of the other half's fries and you don't even notice you've not had a portion!) Also, I don't really drink Baileys or Alco Pops any…
  • My suggestion would be to go see a doctor or nutritionist and have them offer some guidance.
  • Chicken breast (or steak if im feeling decadent), Fried Mushrooms, Tobacco Onions, Coleslaw, creamy peppercorn sauce, and can I swap the french fries for good old UK-style garlic fries please? Oh, and a slice of lettuce because it's important to get your five a day. AKA - my usual birthday treat in a bun....
  • It's important to remember that maintenance isn't about weighing in exactly the same every day - successfully maintaining means that over a period of time you will consistently remain within a certain weight variance. You will fluctuate up and down by a few pounds. This is perfectly natural. If you are at a weight where…
  • Look at the alternative - what more motivation do you need!
  • If the heart rate for gym equip and HRM were identical, it sounds like you are on a machine which can sync with the HRM- the ones in my gym are the same. However, in my experience the numbers on mfp / HRM / non-synced equipment vary drastically. Both MFP and Gym equipment assume I am taller and heavier than I am (I fall…
  • I haven't done it, but I have just joined a Virgin Active Club and didn't realise they do monthly challenges. Sounds interesting!
  • Added you, at my goal since 2007, though I fluctuate annually (haha)
  • I had a tonsillectomy a few years back. I'll be honest- even though physically there was nothing to stop me jumping on a treadmill, the effect of the anaesthetic itself, coupled with painkillers, was enough to wipe me out for at least a month. I just took the opportunity to rest up and recover.
  • If you want to try and find a substitute long term, buy an ice cream maker (I got one for less than £30) and experiment with frozen yoghurt. I mix natural set yoghurt with blended blueberries and a teaspoon of sugar free jelly mix and about 3 tablespoons of water. Throw some almonds over the top and enjoy! Nothing wrong…
  • Same - 32 year old eternal student (ie post doc lol)
  • What an awesome thread idea... curious enough to bump until I get home and can get a tape measure!
  • First Zombie Running now Bear dodging? Def sounds like a way to improve my pb ;)
  • I use the gym around 3 times a week. I also try to do the 30 day shred a couple of times a week, or a similar circuit style routine. I find that mixing it up between usual gym workouts and the HIIT-type dvd's you can get out there is the best way to go for me. Doing a dvd every day can become monotonous. I feel I still get…

  • Techically i'm a computer geek... stay away from us, we're hard work LOL
  • Hey, I've been making something similar with low fat natural set yoghurt for a while now. Try blending some beetroot through it too! Or add curry paste and sultanas. There is loads you can do with this one
  • If you've gone from being relatively sedentary it's probably that you are doing too much, especially if your calorie intake has been reduced. Try only going to the gym every other day and taking a long walk on your rest days. That way you will be active every day, but not pushing so much. You have forever to do this! If…
  • I was a dancer for years and have always had large legs. The one thing which for me made most difference to my calf size was introducing running into my regime. Log slow jogs a couple of times a week have helped tremendously for me. The bad news is that it took at least a year for me to notice a good difference though!

  • I think the important assumption, irrespective of TDEE or mfp, is that your estimated level of activity and calorie burn is truly representative. I recently got a heart rate monitor and discovered mfp overestimates my calorie burns by as much as 40%. If I had eaten back all my exercise calories (as given by mfp) I would…
  • I sweat loads! Literally to the point where my top and jogging pants could be soaked. You know what, I don't care either. I'm not there to look good and the only person I am competing with is myself. I weigh 120 lbs, run 3 times per week on average, do resistance training and interval work. I was a dancer for 18 years,…
  • Blend 4 cloves of garlic, 2 deseeded green chillis (or more if you like it hot), juice of 3 lemons, big chunk of ginger, a little oil. Marinade chicken legs in about 2/3 of this mix, save the rest.... Brown off the chicken in a skillet / pan blend a bunch of coriander with a little tomato paste, couple spoons of water, and…
  • You can add her to a 'restricted' group so that she can only see your public posts. When you do it, leave a public post saying "Just cleared up the wall and removed a lot of old pics" or something to indicate you've taken that stuff down. She'll see that and think you've done a spring clean, while the people you do want to…
