  • I got tired of my downloaded music pretty fast, and it gets so expensive! So I've been using the slacker app on my phone, and it works great to keep things new and interesting...and free.
  • I do squats and lift weights in my office. Granted, I close my door and have no windows, so no one can see me. :) But it has really helped a lot! I save my cardio for at the gym. And when things quiet down, I try to take walks. I can't leave the building because my work phone loses reception if it goes outside the walls,…
  • Here's my two cents as a psych nurse: There are so so so many medications out there, and each one effects every body differently. You need to find the one that is right for you. Talk with your doctor and try other meds. There is nothing wrong with that. What causes one person to gain weight may cause you to lose weight. No…
  • Anyone ever tried eating a watermelon jolly rancher hard candy while in the shower? Super delicious.
  • When I use the elliptical, I burn an average of 175-200 calories in 30 minutes. Somtimes less if I'm not maxing out my intensity. I'd say 350 in 30 minutes isn't very realistic unless you're really going hardcore. Back when I had a HRM, MFP's estimations of my calories burned were always higher than what my HRM said. My…
  • I've found that that "general soreness/discomfort" goes away as I exercise. So I say work through it. If it's really sore, or if you've been exercising a lot lately, I'd take a day off.
  • Welcome, Dave! I think we all know what it's like to hate looking in the mirror. That feeling will likely be there off and on for a while. It'll go away as you start to see results, then come back when you get used to seeing those results and start craving new ones....but the important thing is that you will see results!…
  • I lost two pounds my first week, then NOTHING for a while. I really didn't see much change until I started measuring my food and logging meticulously. But even that change was minimal. I noticed the biggest body changes when I got serious about working out. Dieting doesn't seem to help me much (I guess because I have…

  • I stay away from the flavored waters that contain any artificial sweeteners. There are several out there that have no calories and no artificial sweeteners. Syfo is my favorite, plus it's incredibly inexpensive. :)
  • I was the same. I would max out after 15 minutes. It made me really intimidated, and I stayed off it for about a year. I built up some muscle and some edurance doing other workouts, and finally was able to get on and STAY on for much longer. I'll tell you, it really helps to start low and slow, at first. I'm always tempted…
  • Set a few more goals for yourself. For example, maybe set a goal weight for the end of March, or say - "I'm going to go to the gym this many times between now and April 1" or something like that. That way, you see more success in between now and July. For me, I NEED to see myself as successful, otherwise I give up. So…
  • I love everything by Meg Cabot. Her books mostly have a romantic twist, but I wouldn't consider them romance novels. Start with her "Size __ is Not Fat" series. The first two are hilarious, but I haven't read the third one yet. She also writes some young adult books, which I also read and they are decent. I also loved the…
  • It took me about a year on MFP before I made my diary public. It was a huge step for me. What amazed me was that nothing bad happened when I made it public. One of my friends commented that I was doing well with my diary, and that just cemented it for me. I don't really care who looks at it now. In fact, it almost makes me…
  • I've been doing squats every day, but TODAY, I tried squatting a bit lower -- like all the way down! It worked me hard, and I was sweating and out of breath at the end, but I did it!!
  • I loved all the Ramona Quimby books when I was little. She's got a funny sense of humor. And I LOVED the Wayside Stories books, but particularly the first one.
  • I'm 5'4" and currently 135. My highest was 165, but I started this time around at 147. I made it all the way down to 130, but then gained 5 back over a three month span of time. My goal is to get into the 120's - preferably down to 125 and see how that feels. I'm currently a size 4, and I don't think I want to be a size 2…
  • I can see how that could be frustrating to get. I hit some pretty bad lows a few weeks ago, and I felt this was the place to vent my frustrations because that's what we're here to do - support each other. But I admit, it's hard to deal with friends who seem to be in a low spot a lot. I think she was trying to be helpful…
  • When I was in college, we played this stupid game (I don't even know the point of it) but we all had to say something that we would change about ourselves (talk about terrible for self esteem) and I said that I hated my legs. Now, when you ask what I love about myself, it's my legs. I have lost SO MUCH of the fat that was…
  • I'm gonna send you a friend request! I'm 5'4" - highest known weight was 165, I got down to 130 (anywhere in the 120's is my goal) but just could NOT get down to 129! Now I'm back up to 135, and struggling to get back down. We can motivate each other!
  • I'm sure there is some truth to some of it, but I absolutely hate articles that say things like "you will be cured if you do this!" and "this will stop all of your problems!" The world is not that easy. If it was, no one would have any problems anymore. It especially bothered me one year in nursing school, right after my…
  • That's an awesome calculator!! Thanks!!
  • I'm shorter than most of you - 5'4" - but I agree that sizes are annoying and vary not only from store to store, but also in the same store! About a year ago, I weighed 150 and bought a new pair of Gap jeans for our engagement photo session - size 8. 5 months later when I weighed about 135, I bought a new pair of the same…
  • I've been feeling that way too!!! What has helped me is to have my big goals (to lose 8 more lbs by the end of April) but also to have small daily goals - Today, I will have a healthier salad for lunch, instead of what I have been getting the last few days. Today, I will watch my portions. Today, I will do 200 squats. (I…
  • I had two root canals, both went just fine. The pain was terrible before hand, but once I was numb, the pain was gone forever. The only pain I had afterwards was a little jaw soreness from holding my mouth open for the procedure. I do recommend getting a crown for the reason previously posted - that the tooth gets brittle.…
  • You sound a lot like me based on your little introduction! Other than the kids part, though.... I have recently cut out milk (and most dairy, except for a few things that I really, really love) and substituted it with almond milk. Have you tried it? And I was craving a Dr. Pepper today, but resisted! (so proud of myself)…
  • My husband and I met on eHarmony. My first week on the site, I had one match. I was so depressed. But the next week, I had literally hundreds of matches. As I was scrolling through the endless list of pictures and names, I came across one that looked sort of like a friend from high school - goofy smile, cute…
  • I've done this a few times. It really freaks me out when I can't find my phone. My favorite was when I was talking on my phone while looking for my phone, and finally yelled "I can't find my phone!" to the person that I was talking to on my phone. Their reply: "Um, honey, you're on your phone."
  • Good job on giving up sodas!!! I've tried that a few times, and it has been very difficult, though I am in the process of trying again - I fudge sometimes by stealing a sip of my husband's, but I figure that is better than having my own! My thing with caffeine is this - anything that you say you "HAVE" to have in order to…
  • The manager's favorite with marinara and mizithra cheese from The Old Spaghetti Factory (favorite restaurant in the entire world) The fettucine alfredo from my favorite restaurant in Rome in Piazza Navona. Yum.
  • Go see a podiatrist if you can. I have that same problem and was diagnosed with tendonopathy, which doesn't come from one specific thing, but happens gradually over time. After months and months of treatment, my doctor told me that if I want to start exercising, I should use the elliptical, because it actually puts LESS…
