  • I try to do stuff like count out 12 (or how ever many) chips to have with the salsa instead of just going back in the basket again and again. I've also done stuff like sharing an entree...I have 5 year old that will happily eat have my carne asada entree if not all of the sides! That helps...a little...Dude's right though…
  • I think that the changes in how much more easily we gain and struggle to lose has truly been my biggest challenge in this. One weekend of carelessness can almost set me back to the previous week's square one! I know that I found it so incredibly discouraging when I went to begin running again, and I was really miserable.…

  • Still waiting to find out! :-)
  • I wish there were more activity on here too! LOL...maybe the problem is that all of us MO40 are busy with our kids and schedules!! I'm doing okay on my journey. I was down 7.5 lbs on Friday, but I managed to really botch it over the weekend. I didn't lose a massive amount of ground, but I did gain back enough to be really…

  • Welcome and best of luck in your upcoming half-marathon!!
  • With the exercise--at least for me anyway--just like the way I can run great one day and feel like my legs are full of cement a couple days later (with no real reason that I can see), there are some days I feel motivated to exercise and some days that it's a real struggle. But just like the "blah" running days, I take it…
  • You may be surprised...once you start catching the excitement of race day and your fellow runners, that can be a real boost!! I was terribly under-trained for my first 5K, and it remains one of my very best times!
  • That evil box of Dove chocolate that my boss has in his office...not today, evil little Dove chocolates...not today...
  • Nicely done! Someday you WILL be able to hang without temptation...but you knew better and avoided a potential pitfall--which is especially tricky when you have all your work buds saying "oh, c'mon..." Hang in there and keep doing what you're doing!!!
  • Maybe a local mall?
  • This is an incredibly motivating thread! BTW, 4-year olds ARE brutal...while we were watching tv on the couch, mine asked if she could lay on my tummy because it was softer than the pillow. Ouch.
  • I sat up straighter too...and put down the spaghetti I was eating as I read it! :-)
  • Absolutely one of my favorite reads! I may even pick that one up again...GREAT motivational book with some fascinating insights on how we view and treat food in our daily lives. Thanks for the reminder!
  • I immediatley thought of Matthew 11:28 when I read your post...this must be an extemely difficult season in your life. I imagine having to take everything slowly and patiently is an enormous challenge and probably feeds into that overwhelming feeling. Take heart though...you burn the same amount of calories walking a mile…
  • Oh, no!! Baking is such a wonderful way to show someone you care (says the one who can't bake to save her life but sooooo very much appreciates her friends that do!) and to express your own creativity. Consider this your personal call to the challenge of finding new and delicious HEALTHY recipes...they're out there, but…
  • I think you can have too much of anything...I need a good kick in the pants when I'm slacking, but I also need a "you can do this" pat on the back once in awhile too. LOL...so, I guess I very cautiously would answer "honest"...but don't anyone make me run home crying!!! ;-)
  • This is super common, so do NOT give up!! There are so many reasons--some you've heard and some that make you think "who'da thunk?" Running makes you hungry, so you may eat more. Pay attention to sodium levels and not just calories and fat...sodium equals water retention equals weight gain. Of course, there's always the…

  • Maybe some people are more comfortable with the anonymity that comes with a general forum post...the actual personal journey part itself may be, well, very personal? That's my best "positive attitude" guess...but I agree with you, they're missing out! Friend request coming atcha! :-)
  • Fast Food = Potbelly's TKY (light version of their turkey sandwich)...gotta have the hot peppers on it! Restaurant = Carne Asada at Santiago's (our favorite local Mexican restaurant)...but I think it's the margaritas that sky-rocket my calorie counts!
  • Interesting info...didn't know about newly exercised muscles retaining water. Thanks for posting, cversey!
  • Absolutely!
  • I committed to myself that I would repeat any day on which I was unable to complete the full run sequence. I haven't had to repeat any yet, and it's a great motivator to keep going on those runs where I start to hear my inner-enemy voice whispering, "Walk...you should just walk...just for a little bit until your legs stop…
  • Good for you!! That's an "aggressive" goal, but not unrealistic. As long as you have a plan in place...and a Plan B never hurts for when things get a little tough along the way. Looking forward to hearing about your success!

  • Same results here...my legs (calves in particular) were really the only visual results I saw from doing both programs. If they could just invent some at-home gadget that shows you your heart and/or endurance progress numbers like a scale or measuring tape does for weight and size, THEN we'd be as impressed as we ought to…
  • I know that when I have a cold (just a common, miserable, stuffy head cold), exercise actually helps clear my head and make me feel a little more energetic. I think the main thing is--particularly if you're running a fever or really feeling run down--to listen to your body. I would think yoga would help get rid of some of…

  • Totally agree with RedMuse and dls06...the only time we REALLY fail is when we stop getting back up and trying! I also remember when I quit smoking, there was a website that promoted the "3 post rule" on its message forum. That is, whenever someone decided they were just going to smoke anyway, they were supposed to post it…
  • Having a baby within the last few months absolutely messes with your body's normal metabolism...so does radically changing your lifestyle, even if it is with healthy changes. Give your body time to adjust and catch up to its new outlook. Also, is it possibly that you've reduced your caloric intake TOO drastically? The body…
  • Don't pay too much attention to the scale. Your focus is where it should be in noticing that you FEEL more fit. I'd say the look and feel of your favorite jeans are a better indicator of progress than the scale is. With that said, the scale can definitely be your biggest motivator or your worst saboteur. Maybe add a little…
