  • Don't just throw out the "big" jeans... make a ceremony of it.* Share before and after photos with family & friends * Examine how reaching your goal brings you closer to the healthier, satisfying life you want * Contemplate the effort and discipline it took to change old habits and progress to your goal * and then.... BURN…
  • Thanks for that explanation. My Flex hasn't recorded a Sleep period yet, so I have logged the time manually each morning. Still it is interesting to see how active it says I am at night.
  • I just started using a FitBit Flex a couple days ago. When it linked to MFP I saw that a start time was added to exercise entries. That is so FitBit can keep them sorted. Lol, yesterday I wore an HRM, GPS tracker for time and laps and the FitBit. Today just the GPS and FitBit.
  • Mine is similar on the elliptical. Though the intervals are equal (2.5 minutes). If I could run, your plan would make sense.
  • Indeed Agreed! She's kinda your face about some of the common myths we see passed around, but her focus, sense and conclusions are undeniable.
  • There is a pretty good explanation on the MFP help page. http://myfitnesspal.desk.com/customer/portal/articles/11170-why-don-t-you-calculate-calories-burned-for-strength-training- Also lots of threads in this forum. Still learning here; I just finished loading all my Split Routine exercises under Strength Training and then…
  • Your sense of humor is refreshing! :flowerforyou: *raises 24-oz. Bubba mug of green mint tea in salute*
  • The TechnoGym treadmills in my gym have metal hold bar. The bar picks up heart rate quite accurately when checked against my Garmin. Never thought about it syncing. Just ordered a Polar FT7; going to have some playing with that. Thanks.
  • Congratulations on your progress. It is a continuing journey. Thank you for the holiday inspiration. Much appreciated.
  • Just FYI It is the Unsweetened plain Almond milk that is 30 calories per serving. The regular is 60. My wife loves the stuff. I can't get it down. Different strokes *shrug*
  • @KateK8LoseW8, Lol, I use my pull-up bar for sit-ups. Thanks for the reminder that it can multitask. @ShibaEars, I gave up videos games when I started my weight loss. Just shows how bad they CAN be. HA!
  • Agreed. "Why can't we all just get along?" :)
  • Just right! :) Get moving.
  • Not to throw fuel on a fire, but it seems that @cpaygen has the terms right. Here is the wikipedia entry for circuit training: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circuit_training Thanks for bringing up the topic. I have been wondering about such. Good to know and how other people see the topic.
  • Do you visit a gym? Elliptical trainer is good for cardio, calorie burn and less stress on joints. Adjust the effort if you feel a twinge.
  • Motivation... Everything else is incidental. ;)
  • Agreed... Find a safer place to run. 6 cyclists killed in our area recently. Not worth the risk if there are ready alternatives.
  • ROFLMAO!! Too Old! I must be ancient then, because I know none of the songs and only a couple of the artists. Thanks for reminding me how out of touch I am. My playlist is made up of "oldies" that regularly change tempo. That works well for this old geezer. Allman Brothers, Bob Seger, Led Zeppelin, Molly Hatchett,…
  • Good music, early mornings and focus on the exercise has worked for this introvert. I hope you find a solution. Can't imagine many solutions for outdoor workouts that far north! :)
  • Please stay hydrated during your workout and listen to you body. :) My daily workouts start at 6:00 am. Prior to start all I have is a BCAA tonic with a couple GTE caps. May be my imagination, but I notice quicker fatigue without them. Then my breakfast feast follows 2-3 hours later.
  • Many free weight exercises require standing which is troublesome ( inner ear / balance issues ). Using seated machines or those with stable grips is lots safer.
  • I think I will go for the 2x15 and cut out redundancies. Thanks again.
  • When I say 21 machines I mean 21 different machines, but, you are right, there is some redundancy. Machines are not grouped by muscle groups ( except the Adductor and Abductor ), but that may be accidental. :) I am 60 and retired. Plenty of time every day. Workouts are becoming a pastime or hobby ( can't play golf ).…
  • Great way to meet and motivate neighbors! And it is Free!!! Unless you use a treadmill at a gym. Spend lots of money on shoes socks orthotics band aids iTunes Apple Shuffles Sunglasses Hats Clothes ( that has been my experience, lol)
  • You all inspire me. Thank you! My moment was a pair of ice blue eyes. That is also my motivation when I feel a fade coming on.
  • I can't offer much insight. However during my weight loss I have hit a number of plateaus where weight loss stopped for a good while. At 250 I was stuck for 2 weeks; the scale fluctuated up and down a couple pounds. I just put it down to my body adjusting, retaining water, gaining muscle, etc. I kept to my diet ( calories…
  • Have defined your personal goals? Short term, intermediate, longer term and life goals. Those can help you find your way. Congrats on getting started. Myself just joined a gym 5 weeks ago. 'Twas a good move to continue my weight loss effort.
  • When talking about cooking with protein powder, does whey protein powder being denatured by temperatures above 140 degrees F concern you? Not that it matters I guess. Just wondering. Thanks.
  • Agreed. Weekends I have strayed occasionally, but the surplus is balanced in a day or two.
  • Hehe, I am a 60 old man who never paid much attention weight, diet, exercise until I retired this year. My motivation is strictly internal based on the actions of another person. I resolved that action would not happen again. So whenever my motivation flags I say to myself, "I may have been fat, but I will become healthy…
