  • Your dedication is inspiring!! Congratulations!!
  • CICO is an awfully simplistic approach to a very complex subject. Bottom line CICO works. However, taking into consideration the variety of personal experiences where low-carb has *saved peoples lives*, it's awfully critical of you to dismiss OP's discovery. When I low carb I experience a significant decrease in mood…
  • I feel this, very deeply. In 2012, I lost 50lbs. I felt amazing. Hell, I WAS amazing. Somehow... I stopped paying attention and a year and a half later I'm heavier than I ever was. I'm starting over again. Intent on loving myself, making the right choices, and getting back to being amazing.
  • I've never heard of cardio fit weight loss, but I would do some research on low carb and ketogenic diets. 1200 calories is not enough for your body to live on. I'm surprised anyone in the health profession would even suggest that. You could also do some research on Basal Metabolic Rate and Total Daily Energy Expenditure.
  • hard liquor and diet sodas are your best bet for least caloric impact. a shot of rum is around 60-80 calls/oz
  • "Fatty Wants To Dance", by Hawksley Workman. Hah
  • I'd eat a totally normal, Canada Food Guide "healthy" diet (too many carbs and not enough veg. Especially for a vegetarian). And then I'd sabotage my "good" eating by polishing off an entire bag of chips, almost every night. And if it wasn't chips, it was candy. Oh and booze. Like, alcoholic amounts of booze.
  • I love this! Congratulations! YOU'RE AWESOME!!!!
  • I eat 1650 cals every day. And I make sure I eat back my exercise calories. Last summer I reached my goal of 50 lbs lost eating this way. Then I gained some back because I stopped paying attention. So I'm at it again. Eating 1650 calls. Caveat: This week has been a weird food week for me (my diary is open).
  • I think most people find this. They "think" they should weigh a certain amount, but once they're into the lifestyle of healthy eating and exercise the realize they can do more. Some people raise their caloric intake to be more in line with maintenance to see if or when their body stops losing. Allow yourself to be flexible…
  • lemon juice helps to cut bitterness and berries or very ripe bananas will help sweeten!
  • shin spints are often caused by excessive impact when running. Are you a heel striker? Look up some videos on mid-sole striking and try to emulate that. When I started to run in earnest I had to do this as I am a HORRIBLE heel striker. I have also been advised by marathoning friends that compression socks really help if…
  • Nice job!!! have to say, though, you're stunning, before and after. Such a beauty!!
  • I think you should focus on your daughter more than your husband. The suggestions to get your daughter involved in cooking, and earn computer/tv time with "outside" time (I wouldn't push exercise, just healthy activity) are great ideas. If she's already experiencing weight concerns at 10, something seriously needs to…
  • You are NOT overweight. I cannot tell you how much I HATE the BMI for telling women they're fat when they may not be. Even so, the cut off for 5'3" is less that A SINGLE POINT from where you are on the scale. You are beautiful, and no matter how you feel about him, your boyfriend needs HELP. If he's using your weight as AN…
  • Consuming dietary fat does not add to bodily fat. Dietary fat helps the feeling of "fullness" just like carbs do, but carbs metabolize very differently than fat. The recommendation would be made for someone on a low carb high fat diet. You can't eat potato chips and losing weight, but you can eat bacon and lose weight :)
  • I had chicken wings last night and promptly gained 3 lbs "overnight" despite still being under my caloric target. Salt intake can cause the scale to go haywire.
  • I have to say! your *kitten* looks FANTASTIC! :) Way to go! :)
  • I'm a brand spankin' new Nova Scotian (by way of Manitoba, born and raised in Ontario)!! Just moved here last November. Love it though, they won't ever get me to leave :)
  • Also in Canada. SportChek carries a line of plus size clothes that are well designed, called Diadora. They're often even on sale, and are not ridiculously priced like the Nike or Reebok brands. I also second Old Navy. If you're looking for a bra, I HIGHLY recommend Moving Comfort. There are several styles made specifically…
  • Oh this is so inspiring!! Be proud! You've done such a great job!
  • Yep mee too. Don't get an animal if you're not willing to devote your life to it.
  • I'm an intentional goal scooter, yes. I set smaller "realistic" goals, and create rewards based on the difficulty achieving said goal. Though my "main goal" was to lose 50 lbs, my first goal was to lose 10% of my weight, then it was to get under 200lbs, then another goal and another one, until I reached the 50lbs lost.…
  • I'm not sure why the site doesn't have this feature, but the iPhone app does (can't confirm either way for the other smartphone apps). Not sure why you strongly disagree with adding exercise calories... but I guess that's just a personal preference. I have my calorie deficit built into my day, so I eat my exercise calories.
  • I highly recommend doing some research on Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) and Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). These two number will give you a better indication of what your caloric intake should be according to YOUR body. It will also, hopefully, explain Net calories along the way. There's a lot to learn about the…
  • I recall being impressed by your one year update. Congrats on a wonderful success story!!!
  • THat must have felt amazing!!! Congrats on your losses!!!
  • Whatever you do, do not buy a bike from Canadian Tire or Walmart. Buy a bike that has a GOOD reputation. I second the idea to go to a pro bike shop and have them fit you. I'm short (short legs specifically), so I needed a special sized bike. If you have the wrong size bike, you WILL screw up your knees.
