  • BMI is a joke, it is based on someone with a normal frame. I'm not even an inch taller than you and 215 is a good weight for me. BMI doesn't take your body composition into consideration, sure it might work for some people but it doesn't work for me. I would trust body fat percentage better, 13% isn't that high, you…

  • Be careful at Trader Joes... a lot of their food isn't any healthier than what you'd find in the junk food section of a grocery store. Their prices are high as well. That being said I love their gnocchi.
  • Never been to one and I have no plans of ever going. If I want to see a hot chick naked I'll look at my wife.
  • As said it's different for everyone. I hit it at a little over 50lbs lost and ended up taking a break for a month from this site. Now it looks like I'll be losing again. The one thing I'm going to do differently is have a "free" day where I can eat more calories. I was eating a constant 1400-1600 and I think my body…

  • Pizza is a vegetable so eat as much as you want...
  • Grab an apple. They are healthier than anything listed so far and studies have shown they are better for waking you up in the morning than coffee. Scott
  • I eat six small meals a day. Once you are on a schedule your body should adjust. Scott
  • Fight it all you want but I don't think you'll really be able to change. I'm not a morning person, I enjoy sleeping in but I never do. It's a struggle to get my body to wake up in the morning for work.
  • If it were me, I would keep things light for a few days at least. I don't think the pool would be much of a problem just listen to what your body is telling you. Obviously I'm not a medical doctor and this is not medical advice. If they didn't heal up or if they got worse I'd go get checked out. Scott
  • You'll probably be hungry for awhile as your body adjusts. I was eating 3000-4000 calories a day and went down to 1700. Big shock! Make sure you are eating good calories. Processed foods digest quicker and won't keep you as full. Choose foods high in fiber and try eating 6 smaller meals a day instead of 3. Overtime you…
  • haha... I weigh myself twice a day, but only because I like crunching data. I have an excel spreadsheet that tracks everything and it's interesting to see how much I gain during the day and then lose at night... Once I get bored with that then I'll weigh myself once a week. Scott
  • You want to make sure you are getting at least 1200 net calories a day. Whether or not you eat more calories back above that has been up for frequent discussion. I did not eat enough calories back and was frequently in the 900-1100 calorie a range day. I didn't realize it and it was only because I wasn't calculating…
  • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication The kidney's will process about 1 litre an hour, if you are healthy. That's quite a bit of water...
  • Amazon has a HRM for $40. Timex, I don't remember the model number. It's the one I use and it's been pretty good. My elliptical which doesn't take anything into account would say I burned 300 calories during a normal workout. MFP showed 500 a workout. My HRM shows I'm actually burning 900 a workout. Scott
  • I second rules of engagement. Also Psych is a great show. Scott
  • I started right at 300 and am down under 245 now. It's a great program to use, I'm sure you'll do great! Scott
  • lay on your back, hands under your butt. Cross your legs at your ankles and raise your feet up a couple feet. Slowly lower them until they are a couple inches off the ground, pause and then raise them back up slowly. Do that 20-25 times a night (start increasing reps as you can...) It's a great exercise for that area. Scott
  • They are the most accurate way to measure calories burned that's accessible to the average consumer. MFP showed 500 calories for my average workout my HRM showed 1000. Even if it's 20% off then I'm burning 800-1200 which would mean MFP was 38%-58% off. I'll take the HRM.
  • I did a 24 hour one and felt like crap. I watched the fat, sick, and nearly dead documentary and the one thing Joe doesn't mention is that he lost a 1/3 of the weight in muscle. BAD! I enjoy juicing and do several meals a week in juice but I don't buy into the juice fast for a long period of time as a healthy option. I've…

  • I have increased the amount I weigh myself but more for curiousity. I weigh myself in the morning and at night, have everything charted out in excel. I find the fluctuations interesting. The best way to measure progress is by measuring tape, as long as you can measure yourself the exact same every single time.
  • Try upping your calories a bit and see what happens. I've been losing much the past month or so so I bought a heart rate monitor to make sure my calories burned was what I was really burning. I had been way off (about 500 calories too few..) So my 1400-1600 net calories were actually 900-1100 calories a day in actuality.…
  • Get a heart rate monitor with calorie counter. It'll be the only way you'll get accurate calorie count. I've heard anywhere between 600 and 1000. Scott

  • There's a search function in this forum. This topic has been beat to death... It's almost as bad as searching for a food in the database and finding 15 of the same item with one or two variations on spelling.
  • Sounds like a great way to do it. I would suggest varying the intensity though. A lower intensity 60-65% will probably do more for endurance than a higher intensity, which will do more for burning calories. Scott
  • No... it varies so much from person to person and exercise to exercise that it'd be impossible to put in the system. If you really want to record calories burned during a weight training session you'd have to get a heart rate monitor that did calories. I don't record calories burned for strength training. Scott
