  • This is only my opinion and experience. I think a combination of stretching and/or yoga/pilates and regular massage therapy will increase flexibility. I can tell in my golf swing when my muscles are tight, I don't have smooth fluid motion and backswing. I would recommend trying both yoga and pilates to see which one you…
  • Pilates is great for stretching, you can find some on youtube to try out. My other suggestion is massage therapy on a regular basis. I struggled with headaches for a long time, mostly caused by muscle tension. Since starting massage therapy I very rarely have a headache. I love my job but sitting at a desk/computer all day…
  • I agree with baking the potatoes rather than boiling. Here is a recipe that even has the nutritional info. I love gnocchi and making them with baked potatoes makes a huge difference in the texture and how much flour is needed. http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Potato-Gnocchi-357258

  • I dry it completely and then store it in an airtight container. Keep the container in a cool, dry cabinet. Heat and moisture will cause mold. I've used it after a few weeks of being stored this way and it's worked out great.
  • saving!
  • bump - so I can read it later
  • I agree with you, I don't look for the lowest calorie because like you said they are usually lacking in fiber & protein. I like the Arnold/Brownberry breads and usually pick up either the double protein or the double fiber depending on what the store has.
  • Happy New Year and Congratulations on Maintaining Your Goal! Thanks for always being an inspiration and a voice for healthy eating/living!
  • Thank You! There are a lot recipe links that sound really good!
  • Currently: Fall of Giants by Ken Follett Next: not sure, possibly the next book in Follett's century trilogy, Winter of the World.
  • Here is a website with some ideas for you to try. I know they are hard! I should get back to working towards a goal of being able to do them. http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/04/25/do-a-pull-up/
  • Mad Bomber hat to keep him warm while he snow blows. I got one for DH for his birthday and he loves it! http://www.madbomber.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=22&sort=20a&page=2
  • I want those!
  • Yes, you can use plain Greek yogurt! I like Greek Gods because it has a tangy flavor that tastes a lot like sour cream. I use it in dips and any other recipe that calls for sour cream including a topping on baked potatoes, tacos.... I made dip with it for a party. One of my young nieces loved it. She asked what I made it…
  • This is one of my favorites! Quinoa, mango & black bean salad. I've been making it to take to work for lunch. http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/quinoa_mango_black_bean_salad.html
  • I second this one! brussel sprouts are my favorite vegetable done this way. I'm making converts of family & friends who say brussel sprouts are gross but after eating them roasted decide they are really good!
  • These meatballs sound delicious! Can you share a recipe?
  • I read the book a few weeks ago and started the lifting plan. There is a group with threads for each stage and lots of support. Look in the Groups tab and you should see it. Join it and have happy lifting!
  • Bump so I can read it later!
  • Thanks! it's almost funny to read "still no gain" and "finally a gain" when most of the people on the boards are trying not to gain. I think waiting for the four weeks was a good idea. I am going to do that and see what happens. That should give my body enough time to adapt. I will be going on vacation for a week in…
  • Thanks for the info and the encouragement! I will be starting a new job on Monday and the only part I am probably not going to like is that it is a desk job. I will bring my cals up higher, I didn't want to jump to high to quick so I upped them 100 the other day. Do you (or anyone else) have any advice about adding to…
  • Are the maintenance cals the lower of the two amounts? I wish I had your body fat, I checked mine this morning and it was 26.9%. I have some serious work to do. My family all carries fat in their bellies and with that some have had heart disease. This is part of my motivation, to try to avoid that. And who doesn't want to…
  • If I had bittersweet chocolate I would make this right now! it sounds so good! Thanks for sharing the recipe I'm copying it for later. I was going to tell the OP to make an angel food cake. Cut it into slices and freeze what you don't use. Chocolate angel food is delicious with fresh strawberries!
  • Reading everyone's posts is so encouraging! I just started yesterday and have a pleasant feeling of soreness today. I had been doing some strength training but I do not think I was eating enough or training efficiently. I am seeing more people doing south beach and losing scale weight fast but they only look skinny. In…
  • I am joining the group and will be doing Stage 1 Day 1 today. I haven't read through the whole thread yet but I will because I'm sure there are some great pointers for me! Happy Lifting!

  • I do 2 tbl of canola oil with almost 3/4 C of kernals. It makes a huge amount of popcorn. I top it with 1 tbl of butter & a little salt. I've tried eating the air popped stuff but I don't care for the taste. As long as I plan ahead for the calories I don't worry about it.

  • Thanks! I needed some breakfast & lunch variety.
  • These are really good helpful ideas!
  • Like others have already said your goal weight and even your current weight are unhealthy for a 5' 5" female. I read your intro and you say you want to toned so that you look good in a leotard because you are a dancer. In order to have that toned look you are after you probably need to gain muscle mass and the only way to…
