Hitting the 4:1 Omega 3/omega 6??
I recently learned the importance of this ratio in the body. I am however struggling to get the balance on a vegan gluten free diet. I am also currently temporarily testing the 80/10/10 macros (not raw). My current efforts involve taking an omega 3 (algae based) supplement and limiting (but not eliminating) corn. Daily I…

Vegan and 60-30-10? High carb, moderate fat?
I was wondering if anyone is using these same macronutrient stats and if they have found any success with it?

Successes on Vibroplate/Powerplate?
So, I've been going to my local tanning salon and spending about 20 minutes (sometimes between 30-40 minutes) every day on the vibrating machine for about 2 weeks. My friend says she has noticed some changes to my arms specifically and I have measured a 1.5 inch loss from my legs. My problem is that I am also heavily…

Differences in Calories and Exercise: What to log?
I ran 1.36km in 12 minutes. I'm 53kg. Runkeeper says I burned 63 Calories. MyFitnessPal says I've burned 380!!! Both are set to exactly the same thing. How is it so different? I don't know which is correct. What have the rest of you done if you've experienced a similar problem?

Eating at Maintenance to Lose?
As I only want to lose 6lb, is it worth simply taking on board my maintenance goal's calories now? Has anyone done this? I know little about actual daily calorific intake and wonder if a loss of 6lb will be so different in terms of daily intake over the long term?

What's a maximal heart rate? Is it bad to go over?
I have been hearing a lot about the maximal heart rate when people exercise. I hear it is supposed to be 85% above your normal resting rate? I figured out mine is meant to be 196 b/m and when my heart rate reached 200 b/m (according to the elliptical trainer) the machine told me to lower my heart rate and decreased the…

Too Much Sugar = How can I lower my intake?
So after reading up on the dangers of too much sugar and insulin tolerance blah blah blah, I decided to watch the sweet numbers. What I hadn't reckoned on was how fast they add up! Take today for instance, my meals consist mostly of vegetables, fish, beans and Quorn (with the addition of a small - 250ml - soya milkshake)…

Vegan cheese substitute suggestions?
I'm not a vegan but I was hoping to be an almost-vegan/vegetarian by knowing more about the alternatives that are out there. I'm pretty pegged on to the vegetarian alternatives as I used to be one so it's just the completely animal-free stuff I need more tips on. I want to know more about the brands that people would…

Alternating exercise with relaxing
I absolutely hate exercising but have decided I really need to get into gear. I was thinking maybe having a program where I swim one day, a days rest, then either one of the 3: one of many different fitness classes/running/strength training, another days rest, swimming again.. and round in a circle like that. I get bored…

Paleo and Quorn?
I know technically Quorn is not allowed, but I don't intend to have a 100% paleo diet - abstinence is no good for me, it makes me eat it in excess. SO I was wondering, as a treat, how would you rate Quorn products in the mostly-paleo? How far off the paleo spectrum is it? I know they're made out of mycoprotein which is a…

Ab exercises with sensitive scar tissue?!
I was wondering if anyone has any tips to help improve toning my abs? I have some weak scar tissue that I have to be very careful with not to damage as it might cause me to have another hernia. It annoyingly causes me to do uneven exercises - it's not intentional, I do it instinctively. I should note that it has fully…

Is my body trying to stop me losing weight?
I have set my calorie goal to 1350, but I keep going over. It turns out that when I do go over I am averaging my maintenance calories (1600). Do you think this is my bodies way of saying, "I like this weight, let's stay here"? I don't really need to lose very much: 5lb, but it seems like it's being held onto as tightly as…

Skinny top, chunky legs!!! Help!
I've basically decided I don't want to lose weight around my arms or much of my torso. I need to lose it on my hips and legs. The problem is, although my legs have some fat on them (obviously) they seem very muscly! How can I stop my legs looking so chunky? Exercise only makes my muscles larger!!! I'm relatively boney…

5-HTP
I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about this supplement? Apparantly it is supposed to help with loads of things: anxiety, depression, obesity, insomnia. I think it has been dubbed the new "happy pill" that you can get over the counter. From what I can tell it works as the bodies natural pre-cursor to seratonin..…

Upping calories
Heya, I was wondering if anyone has any good ideas as to how I can eat more calories healthily? I already eat quite healthily but am struggling to find high calorie, low fat options. I've been using nuts and seeds as a way to up my calories but to reach the goal I need increases too much fat doing it this way. So far, the…

Wrong calories on nutritional info?
I read a while ago that the calorific figures given by brands and restaurants may not be entirely accurate. Apparantly companies are permitted a 10% "fluctuation", so what we think is only 500 calories, may actually be something more like 550 calories. That may not seem a lot, but when you add up the figures, it could make…

Beginner vegan
Eight months ago went vegetarian (no fish either) and I loved it, I found it surprisingly easy to do. And then i gave it up a month ago. Not because I really wanted to but because I bowed to peer pressure. I hate that I did this! Admitedly since giving up I can probably count the number of times I have had any meat on my…

Peer pressure and undereating
I have never been able to eat alone in front of people who are not. When I am alone there is no problem, and when people are eating alongside with me, that is okay too. But to sit there and eat when they are doing nothing really makes me self-conscious. And now I seem to be having another problem: I am finding it difficult…

Swinging weight
For the past few weeks my weight has been swinging between 111-114lb. My goal weight is 110lb and have only reached that weight for a couple of days, before finding I have gained another few lbs! I must admit my eating habits are a little up and down... I'll be way over my calorific content one day, then the next be loads…

Question about stools! Sorry for being gross!
Well, I am sorry for bringing this kind of question up... I know that a persons bowel movements can say a lot... They can tell you whether you are eating the right foods or even be an indicator of health problems. I have significantly reduced carbohydrate from my diet (excluding carbs from fruit and veg) - altbiet…

Calorie Problems!
I understand that noone is meant to have less than 1200 calories a day, but I find that when I do manage to eat that many calories I gain the weight! Besides, I am finding it very difficult to eat that much! I usually manage around 1000 calories. According to myfitnesspal I already have 500 deficit per day, so how can I be…
