Advice please: how many calories should I be eating....?
Ok - I'm putting this out for all opinions as have had a couple of different suggestions in the past couple of days. It isn't that I'm not progressing, more that I just want to be sure that I am achieving my goal in the most efficient and sustainable way. Age: 33 Height: 5'5'' Body Fat%: approx 26% I think Weight: 130lbs…

Am I doing this right?
OK - my calc came out as: 655 + (9.6 x 59) + (1.8 x 165) - (4.7 x 33) = 1364 I would say my activity level is sedentary (I have an office job where I sit all day but I work out with weights 3 x a week for 30 minutes and cardio twice a week for 40 minutes but currently log this with my HRM values and eat it back) so 1364 x…

dumbells or barbell for deadlifts and squats
So, I've been bored at work today and researching whether I should buy a barbell, yes I'm a member of a gym but really, I'm scared of the weights room and would like to get some proper practice in before going in there amongst the pretty gay boys who frequent my local fitness centre... Much of what i found on the internet…

Kickboxy type workout DVDs
So - after checking out jillian (don't like her), P90 (loved it but repetitive) and Chalean Extreme (hard but good) - i've decided kickboxing type moves are my favourite. Can anyone recommend any good, entirely kickboxy, cardio DVDs? I'd join a class but I REALLY don't want to spar (I'm shy).

My P90 journey
So, I started P90 today despite a crashing hangover, I really enjoyed the Sculpt 1-2 circuit and according to my HRM I burned 250 calories doing it which is a lot more than expected. I'm excited to see what the Sweat circuit burns now. I think I need heavier weights or will soon, I'm current using 2.5 lbs for some of the…

Sodium - someone explain to me why it is so evil....
I'm not sure I fully understand why sodium is so bad. I mean, I know salt in bad for you in general but what is the impact of it on weight loss? Can anyone educate me?

Thoracic outlet syndrome / cervical ribs
Hello just wondering if anyone else here has this problem. As much as I enjoy exercising I find it makes my TOS flare up and my left hand is aching today. I'm trying all the usual scalene stretches but it might be time to go back to a physio. I hope they don't tell me to stop lifting weights. :-(

Power 90 is really boring...
It is, really, really boring. Only two different workouts, which you alternate. I'm approaching the end of my second week and already i'm bored, how am I going to last another 10 weeks? I'm seriously considering switching to a more varied programme, maybe Chalean Extreme as I LOVE weights - but a little part of me will…

Fad diets - what have you tried?
So, before I came to this wonderful place I tried all sorts of bizarre diets and exercise fads - Dukan (I got so bored) - Jorge Cruz 8 minutes in the morning - I'd rather spending those 8 minutes in bed - Weightwatchers - great for some but doesn't really teach you about nutrition - Agar flakes - yes, Agar flakes, in hot…

Polar HRM - the annoying beep!
Can anyone tell me how to turn off the beeping noise on my FT4? Thanks!

Beachbody coaches
I'm loving P90, there is no doubt the programmes work for many people, but I cannot help being a little sceptical about the set up behind the DVDs. It seems that pretty much the only feedback out there is positive, and most is on websites of people who sell the programme and call themselves Beachbody coaches despite having…

Protein drinks - proper use
Hello! I've just started Power 90 and was wondering, should I have a protein drink only after the weights sessions or should I have one after the cardio too?
-
Protein shakes / powders / whatever - available in UK
I'm mystified where to start with this. I want something fairly low fat but that adds protein to my diet. Any recommendations? I'd rather have something that isn't too complicated - just a mix and go.

Knee support
So, like many, many others, I have damaged my knee on the 30DS. Damn you Jillian. I've bought a neoprene knee support and have been wearing it in the day and resting my knee by doing no or very low impact exercise for the past few days. Unfortunately I'm seeing no improvement. Is the support actually helping, it feels like…

Doing it right - calories and starting the original Power 90
Hello all Yeah, yeah, I know, another damned calorie question. I keep thinking that I know what I'm doing then I read another post and get confused again so lets see if someone can help me ensure I'm getting the most out of this. So - me: Weight 132lbs, height 5'5'', age 33, approx 10lbs to lose Estimated body fat around…

thinking of starting P90 on Saturday
...so...I got about half way through that damned 30 DS and decided it wasn't for me - too hard on the knees. I also wanted something more intense and so am thinking of starting P90. I've run therough the level 1 cardio and sculpt once each time and really liked it. I definitely like having a rest day between lifting…

Not working for me.
Hey gang. I'm glad to see so many people getting such amazing results already. Unfortunately this programme just isn't working for me, I've injured my abs, my knee and my ankle and, despite working damn hard, I'm not seeing any change either on the scale or in my measurements. I think I need something longer / more intense…

Feeling deflated, but not in the way I want...!
I'm feeling pretty low about all this, I've been doing everything right I think, I'm on 1200 cal a day, exercising daily (only 25 mins / day at the moment but its a big change for me) and eating my exercise calories, eating much better quality food and drinking lots of water. OK, its only been 17 days but I haven't lost…

Vegan entertaining
OK, so, I have a new good friend who is vegan, and I stupidly invited her over for dinner and now have no idea what to cook. I've got some vegan soups in the freezer for first course, no sweat there, but what can I make for a main and dessert that is reasonably impressive but not overly complicated (I'm a good cook but I…

"pulled" ab muscles
Stupid question I suppose but can you "pull" as in over exert ones ab muscles? I took a rest day yesterday as they were aching and then when I tried to do a plank today (30 DS) I had such a sharp shooting pain in my lower abs that I cried out. I've always done lots of ab exercises and have never had a problem, it seems…

30 day shred depression
Ugh. While I'm enjoying the workout and feeling stronger I haven't lost any inches in 10 days. so many people are posting weight and inch losses and I feel, I dunno...left out, disheartened... I don't have a lot of weight to lose so I'm wondering if that is why I'm not seeing a dramatic difference yet. Anyone doing / have…

Pampering yourself
So - I've had a cheat day and rest from exercise day (pain related - damn abs) and am going to round it off by having a long hot bath accompanied by a glass of wine and a very rude Victorian novella. I may even paint my nails, put my hair in curlers and be in bed by 9. What do you do to treat yourself?

Fun motivating cardio/dance DVD
Hey all I'm doing the 30 DS but I think I need some additional cardio, so far the exercvising at home is working out so much better for me than the gym so was hoping to add another fairly short burst of cardio in every day or so but am not sure what DVDs are good. Any recommendations? Thanks!

That old "clean eating" question...
Yes, I know this crops up a lot but I've read loads of old threads on this and am still unsure where to start. I'd really like some very basic guidance on where to begin with cleaning up my diet and perhaps a list of clean foods... any suggestions where to start?

Correct calorie deficit
Hi all I'm getting a bit confused by the BMR, TDEE thing. MFP site is telling me my BMR is 978!! and is recommending I eat 1200 calories a day - not really a problem most of the time to be honest, I haven't been hungry but I have gone over a couple of times, though not hugely. I haven't lost any weight though. Other sites…

Hello
Just thought I'd pop in and say Hi. I have been logging my diet for a couple of weeks now and most days I'm absolutely fine with the calorie intake but have not been losing anything. I've realised though, that my weight loss demon is alcohol. I don't drink every day but on the days I do, I overdo it completely. That one…
