Couldn't do W8D3
Yesterday I tried to do my final (before 5K) workout. I went to the high school track and it was very hot. I was only able to run about 1/2 a mile. :( I was a little bummed, but I finished 3 miles walking. And I was really red. I probably should have skipped it or picked a different track with trees. I know I can do 5K, so…

I ran 5K yesterday!
I have one more run (W8D3) to officially finish my C25K. But I already completed my first 5K on the treadmill. I don't run fast, so yesterday when I was asked to run 2.75 miles or 28 minutes, I decided to try to 2.75 miles--however long it took. Then I decided I was that close, so why not try for 3.1 miles. And I did! It…

Finally a Before and During worthy of posting!
Edit: Trying to fix the size, but if you right click it will open. Or you can see it on my blog: http://halfajulie.blogspot.com I've been taking pictures on the first of every month, and I definitely see a difference. But this morning, I put on a shirt I hadn't worn in a while, and I noticed it was very loose---especially…

Check in...How is everyone?
Our group has been around for almost 3 months. But it's getting pretty quiet in here! lol. We started around the beginning of January. And we all know that, statistically, most people who start out to get healthy on January 1st quit by the end of the month. (And we've all probably been one of those statistics---more than…

Huge NSV
Today I ran....and ran....and ran.... Today was W7D2: Run 2.5 miles or 25 minutes. First of all, I don't run anywhere near a 10 minute mile, so I knew that was not gonna happen. But I was determined to run for 25 minutes. I struggled about halfway through. But when the voice on my app told me to "Begin cool down". I…

Strength training/Weights
Background: I'm 43. SW: 306 (1/1/13). CW: 276 GW: 150 ish I've been walking almost every day (about 120 miles since January 1). I have one week left of C25K. According to my FitBit, I take at least 10,000 steps about 6 days a week, and I usually hit 15,000 one day a week. I do Zumba 1-2 times a week. I know I need to add…

NSV: Finally back in zip up jeans
About a year ago, I outgrew my biggest zip up jeans--size 26. The only other option I could find in town was elastic waist stretch jeans. Even the 28s I could find didn't fit. I've noticed more room in my jeans lately, but the 26's still wouldn't fit. Until today! I never thought I'd be excited about fitting into size 26…

Trying to wrap my brain around what I'm reading....
I've been obese most of my adult life. I started on MFP on January 1st at 306 pounds, and I'm down about 25 pounds. I walk a mile or 2 almost every day. I do Zumba 1-2 times a week. I've on week 6 of C25K. I drink a ton of water. I haven't had a Pepsi in over a month. I'm eating a lot, and I haven't been hungry. I have not…

Polar FT1?
I have been using a FitBit1 for about a month, but I've hearing about the HRMs. My local target had the Polar FT1 on clearance ($30 instead of $60). I bought one, but I haven't opened it. Come back here to read reviews, but most are of the other models. Is this a good starter HRM? I can't really afford to spend another…

Week 5---Done!!!
I am so excited! I was worried about W5D3. But today, this fat girl (at 280 pounds!) ran for 20 minutes without stopping!!!!!! I think it is the first time I've run 20 minutes without stopping in my entire life. (At least the first time in 25 or 30 years!!). I didn't come close to a mile during that 20 minutes (more like…

Postponing my first 5K
I was planning to run (or run/walk) my first 5K in May for my community's Race for the Zoo. But, I realized the that night before the 5K is the Walk for Hope (cancer walk). We lost a good friend to cancer about 18 months ago, and another friend just had her second round of chemo (both breast cancer). I'm pretty sure I'll…

Finally finished week 4
After a 2 weeks delay, I finally finished week 4. I've been sick for 10 days. Today was my first time running with my new $150 Brooks with my $40 inserts. After a few days of getting used to the new shoes and inserts, the past 2 days have been my first without pain in my left foot in a couple of months.

Going to sign up for a 5K--anybody in?!?!
I am going to do at least one 5K this year. I don't know if I'll be able to run the whole thing (we'll see how I do with the C25K (Couch to 5K program.) At the very least, I will walk a 5K. My small town has quite a few each year. The first one is the end of February, and I don't think I'll be close to ready. I could walk…

Anybody done a DietBet? I'm doing one!
I've been hearing about DietBet.com for a while. It's like the tried and true office pool. Everyone puts in X dollars and the biggest loser takes all. Except, with DIetBet, everyone who completes the goal (lose 4% of your body weight in 4 weeks) gets a portion of the pot. If the entry is $20 and 100 people sign up, the pot…

Stretching? What kind? How long?
I've been walking consistently for about 6 weeks. (About 2 miles 5 days a week). I just completed week 2 of C25K. I know I need to be stretching, but I'm not really sure where to start. (I'm 43, female, SW 306, CW 291).

Sites that reward you for exercise!
When I do my C25K workouts, I get a link to get free rewards (Kiip). They have an Android app, but no IOS (iPhone) yet. This one is Earndit, and you can link it to your FitBit, Endomono, MapMyFitness, and Foursquare (among others) http://earnd.it/YAMBx8 Everymove.com is another one that links all the devices. I can't find…

Ways to add movement
Several of us mentioned how hard it is to start working out. It's easy to get caught up in the need for a workout. Instead, try looking for ways to move more. Even if you only have 5 or 10 minutes, you can try these. Do 3 or 4 a day, and you've worked up to 15-40 minutes of exercise! walk around the block Do a lap around…

Have to take a break
I made it to W4D2, but I'm having trouble with my foot (plantar fascitis). I've also been sick this week. I have an appointment with my podiatrist tomorrow. If he clears me, I'll start running again. I did make it to Fleet Feet when I was out of town, and I bought some Brooks running shoes---and some inserts that will help…

New Challenge group (over 100 to lose)
There's a new Challenge group starting this week for people with over 100 pounds to lose. It's kind of small (about 2 dozen people right now). Here's the link. (I didn't start it, but I did join it). http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/12537-b-l-t-challenge

Best video to start with? 30DS? or what?
I'm 43 years old. 290 pounds (down from 206). I've walking a lot (50 miles in January, a little less so far this month). I've made it to week 4 on C25K, and I Zumba 2x a week. Any suggestions on the best video to start with? 30 Day Shred? or a different Jillian Michaels? Or something else. Thanks in advance

Eating enough...
I've been on this journey (this time) since January 1st, and I've lost almost 20 pounds. During the first 6 weeks, I drank 1 Pepsi a day (between 150-250 calories--depending on the size). I was not ready to deal with the caffeine withdrawals. Last week, I took the plunge and I've been Pepsi free for 5 days. I'm feeling…

Week 4 here I come!
I made it through week 3 today. I was very tired, but I didn't stop. I started this journey January 1st (walking and watching what I ate). I added C25K about a month ago. It took 3 tries to get through the second day. But I haven't had to repeat any days since then (yet). I started at 306, and I'm currently at 289. I never…

NSV: Shoes
I've lost 17 pounds since January (about 133 to go). I haven't noticed a difference in my clothes, but my shoes are getting a little big! My insert (plantar fascitis) has been slipping a bit!

Updates? More than 3 weeks in....
It's been more than 3 weeks since most of us started (or restarted) our goals. We've passed most of the people who have given up on "New Year's Resolutions". What have you accomplished? What are you struggling with? What new recipes to do you have?

Any new foods/exercise you like that you didn't like before?
When I ever I watch a weight loss show (Biggest Loser or even an interview with someone who lost a bunch a weight) they always say things like, "Now I love veggies!" or "I don't like sugar any more". or "I'm LOVE going to the gym!". Honestly, I find that hard to believe! lol. But, I never used to like carrots. I started…

Huge jump in weight loss in 3 days?
I started January 1st at 306. All month I've been doing roughly the same things. Calories around 1800. (Occasionally eating back 2-300 exercise calories). Walking about 2 miles most days (for a total of 50 miles walked). 3 weeks ago, I added Zumba 2 times a week. I've completed 4 days of C25K. Each Tuesday, my weigh in…

C25K and Treadmill
Any tips for doing C25K on a treadmill? I've been trying the C25K app. I completed day two today! I'm doing most of my walking/running on a treadmill. I did attempt once on a paved path, but it really hurt my legs. I'm am just under 300 pounds. I've been walking almost every day since January first (and a couple of times a…

Contents under pressure!
Possibly a bit TMI :) I needed to be labeled "Contents Under Pressure" today. I pulled out my Enell bra that I bought about 5 or 6 years (and 30 or 40 pounds!) ago. It is a size 6. Which actually isn't as bad as I thought. I think I would be in a 7 by their size chart. If you haven't seen the Enell bras, they looks like a…
