NSV (Non scale victories)
I thought I'd create a thread for NSVs and pin it so we can go back and review our successes!

One year: 57 pounds
A little over a year ago, my oldest brother almost died. I promised my family I would start the journey to become half the woman I was. I started January 1st at 306 pounds. I still have a long way to go, but This year: I have lost 57.1 pounds! I have lost 8 inches from my chest, my waist, and my hips. I have gone from size…

Struggling with the long haul
I knew the journey to lose half my body weight was not going to be an easy one, but 7 months in, I hit a wall. I am having so much trouble balance work, family, and gym. I'm making bad food choices. Not horrible ones. Not like I used to eat. But still not good choices. How do you stay motivated for the long haul?

Who is still here?
Hey all! Back when this group started (January) we used to have some great discussions! Now, not so much. I realize a lot of people started in January and (like many of have done over the years) fell off the wagon, so to speak. I would love to have this group as a relevant and vibrant group. We don't have to have a TON of…

Can you do a quick survey for me?
I'm doing a Survey Monkey survey about Christmas traditions. Would you mind helping me get a few more responses? http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/7BMCBP8

I did it! I ran my first 5K!
I ran the entire way and I finished in 50:04. Here I am approaching the finish line.

Getting ready for my first 5K!!
After 6 months of training, I am finally going to run my first 5K. It is the Alien Chase (I live in Roswell, NM and this is part of the UFO Festival.) It is a costumed race. Since I know I have no chance of winning the race (if I had run last year with my current times, I would have come in about 90 out of 120 women!!) But…

Run 5K---check!
I completed my first 5K. My time was 50:05 (according to RunKeeper---I haven't seen the official time yet). I ran the entire way. This picture is just before crossing the finish line.

NSV: My first race bib!
6 months ago, I weighed 306 pounds and I had never run a mile without stopping (and if I had done that, it was 25 years ago in high school!). Today, I weigh 256 pounds (down 50!!) and I have run 3.1 miles (5K) without stopping at least 8 times. Tomorrow, I run my first 5K race.

I'm still running....first 5K on Saturday
Hi all! I haven't been on this board for a while, but I am still running. I'm still not very fast, but I'm getting better. When I graduated from C25K in April, it took me 65 minutes to complete a 5K. I have now done it several times around 55 minutes. Last Saturday, on my final full practice run (outside, on pavement) I…

6 months (-50 pounds) 1/3 of the way there!
I blogged about it here: http://halfajulie.blogspot.com/2013/07/six-month-review-monday-motivation.html But here is the short story! 6 months ago (1/1/13) I began the journey to change my life. During that time, I have: ---Taken 1.7 million steps ---Walked or run 253 miles for exercise (and a total of 1324 miles just…

How is everyone?
It's been kind of quiet around here lately. Hope it's because we are all busy working out!! I've been dealing with plantar fasitis (sp?) pain for the past couple of weeks. I'm hoping my podiatrist will give me another cortizone shot. Since I am losing weight, and losing weight will help the problem (or at least make…

NSVs: 5K and playing with my kids (pictures)
Less than 6 months ago, I weighed over 300 pounds; I couldn't run for a minute without feeling like I was going to die; and I rarely played with my kids because I was too tired or too big to fit in the equipment. Today, I ran my first 5K on pavement and with wind resistance to practice for my first 5K race in 4 weeks. I…

Tips for first 5K?
I completed the C25K program in March. My first 5K is next month. I want to do a series of blog posts with tips for my (or my reader's) first races. I'd love tips for before the race, during the race, and after the race. Also, tips for bigger runners. (I expect to be about 250 pounds on race day.) If you have a blog, feel…

Exactly 40 pounds gone!
When I weighed in this morning, the scale showed EXACTLY 40 pounds gone! WooHoo!

What is going well? What are you struggling with?
Let's sound off! What is going well for you? What are you struggling with? Exercise is going pretty well for me. 4 girls from my office, but about 7 others (family members, staff from other sites) joined a gym almost 2 weeks ago. I've been to 4 Zumba classes (I don't think I'll make it to any this week due to scheduling…

Roll call: Who is still here?
We have a lot of members, but very few posts. Just wondering who is visiting/reading this group!??! Even if you don't usually post, if you see this message, please give a little shout out. (Even, "Hi! I'm still here"). Thanks!

140 Days: 40 pounds gone
I started (again) on MFP on January 1st after promising my family I would make changes. (My brother was in the hospital in a coma---we didn't expect him to live. After 45 days--including 3 weeks in ICU--he went home. He is making an almost full recovery.) Today (day 140!) when I weighed in, I was exactly 40 pounds down! I…

Lifting success stories (women over 250 to start)?
I keep hearing that I need to start lifting (and lifting heavy!) but most of the lifting success stories I've found in this thread are women who started out at my goal weight (around 150). Anybody have a success story that started out over 250? I actually started my journey at 306 (I'm down about 40 pounds since January…

Beginning to train with weights...
So far, I'm using the various machines at the gym. From what I've read, it would be a good idea to eventually move to free weights, but I have a couple of concerns: 1. I'm not very strong yet. 2. I don't know what I'm doing 3. I'm scared to do it by myself. How can I make the best use of the weight machines? How much…

Advice as you approach graduation....
I graduated from C25K about 5 weeks ago. In the next two weeks, I ran the full 5K (3.1) miles 5 or 6 times. But then I floundered. I didn't know what to do. For the past couple of weeks I've had a hard time getting a run in. When I graduated, I was able to run for almost an hour without stopping, now I'm having trouble…

I hit a wall today
I'm really struggling to find my get up and go. I blogged about it. http://halfajulie.blogspot.com/2013/05/i-hit-wall.html

Just migrated over
I started C25K in January (at about 290 pounds) and I finished it about a month ago (about 275 pounds). I've been kind of wandering aimlessly since graduation. I have run 5K 4 or 5 time now. (All by one on a treadmill). I was having trouble keeping the focus without the training program. My goals are to increase distance…

I ran 5K outside!
I graduated at the beginning of the month. But all 4 of my 5K runs have been on the treadmill. I've started moving my runs outside. I did one mile, then I did 2 a couple of times. Last night, I ran 3.1 miles---outside! My time was 54:29 It was my best 5K time, and my first one outside.

Post Graduate struggles
I graduated from C25K a couple of weeks ago. I have run 5K on the treadmill a total of 4 times now. I'm working to transition to outside but my longest outside run was just over a mile (about 22 minutes). I run slow (between 3-4 MPH) so a 5K takes me about an hour. During the final weeks of C25K (after the infamous @W5D3)…

Food/nutrition tips
I'm going to pin this topic. We can all add ideas of things we find. They don't necessarily have to be recipes, but things we find that that help along the way.

I'm a runner!
I haven't posted much about it on this board, but I have now completed the C25K (couch to 5K) program and I have run my 3rd 5K on the treadmill. I run slow, and I'm working to improve my time and my distance---I'm also hoping to move it outside since 5Ks are almost always outside. I started running (60 seconds at a time!)…

NSV: I graduated from C25K!
I started MFP on January 1st at 306. After losing about 10 pounds, I started Couch to 5K. I got off to a slow start, and kind of stumbled through the first 4 weeks. I thought I was going to die when I ran for 60 seconds at a time during the first day. But week 5 (with the 20 minute run!) was the turning point. Something…

I did it!
When I posted my status to Facebook, I didn't even read what it said: "I AM OFFICIALLY A #C25K GRADUATE! Thank you @c25kfree! Running for a cause with @BCRFcure! At the peak of my #health!" I graduated! I not only finished the W8D3 run, I completed the 5K. Mine took much longer than 30 minutes (double that!) but I ran! For…
