How casual can I be with my plan?
I am planning on using the Runner's World SmartCoach program for a bit after my half marathon before I decide on a plan for my spring 6k. It really wants me to run four days a week, which I *could* do...but... I've been doing: Saturday: Rest/stretching/sleeping in/playing with kids Sunday: Easy run or Tempo run depending…

Advice for runners
http://www.runnersworld.com/fun/can-you-spot-the-real-comment Today's quiz consists of just one question. And here it is: 1. In a recent article for the Greensboro (N.C.) News & Record, "Running Shorts" columnist Eddie Wooten profiled a man named Carl Cook who "won his age group, 65-69, at the Magnificent Mile state…

Sabotaged by Toddlers
What can I say?!? It's sabotage... - I put in a dance exercise video - the one-year-old clings to my legs while the three-year-old shouts "Mommy, No Dancing!" - I do Pilates and they climb on my back and jump on to my tummy. - I put them in the stroller to go out for a run...they fling things onto the ground, demand juice…

Magnesium gel
I got my legs massaged on Wednesday and experienced muscle cramping. The therapist told me that potassium, calcium and magnesium all work together and that the one people miss is magnesium. Also that magnesium is best absorbed through the skin. She then warned me that applying magnesium topically can cause a burning…

Running is Boring
Let me explain: I'm very enthusiastic about this app. I just started week 7 and am running 25 minutes without stopping. And I never thought I'd be able to run for more than five minutes at a time. The thing is...running for 25 minutes without intervals or any sort of change is sort of boring. I run with music and keep…

W7 D2 - Hitting a wall
I just completed Week 7 Day 2 yesterday. I think it's my 3rd 25 minute run. I felt stiff, sluggish and worn out. However, it was more like a wall I needed to break through (the dark before the dawn) rather than a problem I need to fix. Has anybody else experienced this?

I love runners
http://www.runnersworld.com/beginners/in-good-company?page=1 "It's true you're running?" Gerry asked me one Saturday night while filling my wine glass. We were at his house with a few friends. "If you can call it that," I said. "Probably better to just say I'm getting out." He suggested we get out together some time. I…

What is Running Injury?
Researchers in a recent study defined a running-related injury as a "soft-tissue or bone injury of the legs or back that affected a runner's training (i.e., reduced distance, duration, frequency or intensity) for at least a week." http://www.runnersworld.com/beginners/risk-factors-for-injury-in-new-runners?page=single As…

Do you listen to music?
When I run at night, I don't use headphones at all. My music is lower than a car with open windows. However, more and more, I've started to run with a single earbud during the daytime as well. I can hear my feet and my breathing as well as everything going on around me, with the pacing and inspirational value of music. (I…

The Terrible and Wonderful Reasons Why I Run
Are you familiar with the internet cartoonist, The Oatmeal? Did you know he's a runner? Neither did I. He just did an incredible piece on running...he gets it. Oh, does he get it. He gets being fat. Stretching and Intervals
So I went to see dr glass yesterday. He told me I looked good, was just experiencing normal pains and needed to stretch my calves and lengthen my SI whatever it's called. Women and Running
I was going to say something profound about how, when they integrated women into marathons, they put us on the same field as men. And how fabulous that is. So even though the first women is reliably about 6th in the race, there's something amazing about being measured on the same yardstick. Also, about peeing in the bushes…

What should be a minimum fitness level?
I've been thinking a lot about fitness lately, and what it means. Strength/endurance/speed/explosive power/mobility/balance. For example, as a runner, I realize that maximizing strength needs to happen in parameters. There's a certain point where adding to that dimension can start to inhibit speed, explosive power and…
