I've had a life changing revelation!
I joined here in 2011 looking to lose the weight I gained after retiring. I lost that and more and maintained for quite a while before gaining several pounds back. I've struggled to get back to where I was, with sporadic success. I've seen several people on my friends list facing similar issues....losing it, maintaining,…

My Stay at Canyon Ranch
I am apologizing in advance for the length of this post, I just had so much to share. It is also posted in a couple of forums because I wasn't sure where it fit best. I spent 4 days at Canyon Ranch in the Berkshires to celebrate my 50th Birthday with my cousin. I promised my MFP friends I would post some details/learnings…

Should I keep this dress??
Its been a long time since I bought "dress" clothes....now that I am retired I don't need a lot of dressy things so something's got to really strike me for me to buy it. I found this dress at Marshalls. Its a little snug but when I walked down the hallway in the dressing room, towards the mirror, I loved the way it looked…

HRM Vs Fitbit
After maintaining my weight loss for a couple of years I've put a few pounds back on. I am trying to use the TDEE method to take them back off. I haven't got on the scale yet but I feel good about my eating. I exercise Mon - Fri at a gym, about 1/2 hour cardio and 1/2 hour on the weight machines. When the weather…

The journey from Maintenance to losing again
A little background - came here 3 years at age 47 to drop the pounds gained after I retired. I was 143 and set a goal of 125, which I hit easily in a matter of a few months. Tried maintenance and continued to lost, got down to 115 then settled in at 117 to 118. Maintained for about 2 years. In mid to late 2013 I gained a…

Things learned during a recent illness
Here's the short version.......my first colonoscopy in early January found abnormalities, a pre-cancerous lesion that needed to be removed through a second colonoscopy last Thursday. I had complications, ended up getting admitted to the hospital. The removal of the lesion created a situation where now I need to eat a low…

Help me learn to like running........
I've never liked running, I think it goes back to when I was a kid and my father used to make me run around our very long block for exercise. Its like I've had a mental block against it ever since. Fast forward to last week, we went to our place up North, where there is no gym. I decided to run, OK Jog, every morning as a…

Can you recommend a good stretching DVD?
One of the things I tried on my recent trip to Canyon Ranch was a couple of stretching classes. I'm now thinking I would like to buy a DVD to do a couple of times per week at home. Is anyone doing a stretching DVD that you can recommend? I'm interested in something rather basic, maybe 20 minutes, that I can do at home.…

Canyon Ranch in Massachusetts
My cousin and I both turned 50 this month. To celebrate we have booked a 3 night stay together at Canyon Ranch in Massachusetts. Neither of us has ever stayed there. It looks like they have tons of activities, seminars, classes, etc. I'm wondering if anyone has ever been before and can give me some insight into the "must…

I want to try something different for maintenance.......
...and I'm wondering is anyone else has done it? I've been maintaining for about 1 1/2 years and I'm just looking to try out something different. I exercise 5 days per week and eat back those calories. On weekends I don't exercise so I get fewer calories. Weekends feel like they should be times when you get a little extra,…

Falling back into my old habits......need some help!
I'm no longer slipping down that slippery slope..............now I'm whizzing down like fat-greased lightening and need some help to get back on track. I just can't seem to get "there" mentally and its affecting me both on the scale and physcologically. When I came here at 143 I lost every week until I hit goal of 125,…

I'm really struggling and need some help please
I've been REALLY struggling lately and don't know what to do, any advice from those who have been in maintenance for a while would be appreciated, but first a little background..... I will be 49 y/o in July and am 5'3" tall. I started here in Feb of 2011 at 143, with a final goal of 125. I hit goal in late May 2011, slowly…

Do you log/count when you're REALLY sick?
I have been at maintance for many months and doing fine there. Just came back from a 10 day vacation with limited gym access and different eating. I managed to maintain under those circumstances too. However, I came home sicker than I ever remember being and after a trip to the doctor learned that I have a double ear…

NSV - Levi Jeans
I've never been able to wear Levi Jeans. My thighs, even at my lowest weight (prior to MFP), were disproportionally large. My waist has always been small, even at my heaviest. To fit my thighs the waist was always huge. I've never been happy about the way I look in jeans so didn't wear them often. I have been wearing…

Finally found a before pic and compared to an after pic....
The one with the yellow shirt was taken in Italy in 2008, one month after I retired, I weighed 133 there. The one with the green shirt is from 2009, I was up to 140 there. When I started at MFP last February I was up to 143. The one with me holding the camera is from December 2011. I'm 115 in this pic.

Need Pre-Vacation Advice Please!
A little background on me.........I'm a 48 y/o female, 5'3" tall, joined mfp last February at 143 lbs. By May I was at goal of 125, continued dropping weight while trying to maintain, appear to have settled in at 115. Since November I've fluctuated within a pound of 115 in either direction (except for right after New…

Holiday Weight Gain on Maintenance
I'm in maintenance and have been for a while. My weight has been between 114 and 116 since late October so I record it as 115 here. I weigh almost daily and know that there will be normal fluctuations, and I don't get upset by them. I ate over maintenance for several days during the Christmas/New Year's Holidays. Now that…

The cutest snack you'll never eat........
....too cute to eat. This is my second batch. Basically just oreos, chocolate dipped marachino cherries, hershey kisses and almond slivers. Edited to add: They cherries are dipped in melted chocolate chips. I add a tsp of shortening (to one cup chips) when melting to make the chocolate smoother.

Falling back into old patterns
I have several old patterns and habits that have begun to rear their ugly head...................How to get rid of them for good??????? Before I started here I used to tell myself that despite the weight gain after retiring (at age 45) that I still looked pretty good. I was at 143 pounds but still fit (though barely) in my…

The difference a year makes................
I was looking through all my pictures from the last year to create my annual calendar of the grandkids. I can't believe the difference from last year to this year. Its the first time I've really looked at pics of me at my heavier weight and did side-by-side comparisons to now. Hope these pics post!

Stopping by to say hello
I hit goal in May, kept losing till July and mostly maintained since then (within a pound or two). I think I recently lost another pound or so, but haven't logged the loss yet, I may do that tomorrow. I don't want to lose anymore. Finding the right balance is HARD!! I've been slowly upping my calories and got to 1400. Now…

Need advice on new haircut to match my new body :)
OK everyone....big decision. Until this March I've pretty much had the same hairstyle for the last 10 years or so. In March I started growing it out into a "bob", just as I was beginning my weight loss. Now that my face is thinner I'm not sure I like it, my hair hides my face unless I push it behind my ears. So I'm…

Substituting applesauce for fat (oil) in baking
I've substituted applesauce for oil in baking, but never for ALL of it. So if a traditional recipe calls for one cup oil I will use 1/2 cup oil and 1/2 cup applesauce. This morning I made pumpkin muffins doing this and it really reduces the total calories and fat per serving. But, I was wondering if I could substitute all…
