still not linking?
I have unlinked and subsequently relinked my accounts more times than I can count and mfp still completely fails to show any fitbit data. I know it was a known issue for awhile. Is it still?

Atlas wearable-promising wristband tracker?
http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/atlas-the-first-fitness-tracker-that-actually-tracks-your-workout Looks intriguing. Not only measures heart rate, but proposes to track movement through multiple axes to actually identify the type of exercise you are performing. I wonder how useful the collected data would actually prove…

Gyros meat: looking for averages
I really enjoy gyros meat and it's a pretty good "rest day" food for me, as it's pretty filling and I know has a pretty decent blend of fat and protein. However, I find that the database has wildly different values for it depending on the source. I haven't had much luck getting the info from the local place we generally…

Bi guy just venting a mo'
Happily married bisexual man here; been aware I was bi for over 15 years, but never really actualized it until the last few years. With my wife's support, began trying to reach out and connect with the other half of my sexuality. We got on swinger sites, I got on "bi dating" sites, etc, and have pretty well completely…

Inconsistent pressing
I have a feeling that this probably boils down to not having form dialed in with 100% regularity, but does anyone else commonly have wildly different results in pressing work on a day-to-day/week-to-week basis? After struggling with working in the 80-90% range for singles and doubles a lot lately, I went in yesterday and…

Wii U players
I don't know many people with a Wii U right now. I'm playing a lot of Mass Effect 3 and some Assassin's Creed 3. Wouldn't mind having some people I knew a bit to play with.

Does height matter when selecting a weight class?
So, in a development that should surprise exactly no one, I hit the weight class I have intended to compete at for the first time in years today...and immediately started to wonder if maybe I shouldn't have bothered trying to make 198. I'm curious if there's any good science out there describing whether there is an ideal…

Help me decide: cut further then bulk or recomp now
I am within a couple of pounds of my goal weight (currently 203 shooting to compete at 198), but I'm finding myself still around 17% body fat. I'd hoped to get down to at least 12 and try to hold around there, but I'm also really hoping to seriously pursue my strength goals so I don't particularly want to keep cutting too…

Lifting to a daily max (bulgarian method) anyone else?
I just started experimenting with a Bulgarian-inspired program (only 4 days in so far) because autoregulation tends to work better for me. Interested if anyone else is doing something of the sort.

fat to skinnyfat to fit to pretty darn strong
I'm going to keep the history of my fitness progress pretty short and sweet here, and maybe just have this sit out here and be a wake up call to those hesitating to lift weights. A little over three years ago, I was 250 lbs, weak, and wheezing. I had started a new job where my physical condition was not going to be…

carb/protein/fat ratios for maintenance/toning?
I have asked this and researched it in several different places, but don't seem to be able to get a good answer. If I am done worrying about "losing weight" and am shifting into a mode where I am more concerned with maintaining my current rough size and simply toning my core and working on muscle definition, what ratios…

Chicago Get Lucky 7k...untrained
So I get in a lot of friendly arguments here on MFP with people who are die-hard advocates of cardio for overall fitness AND weight loss. I am a firmly-entrenched member of Camp Weight Lifting, myself. In one discussion I was in, I pointed out that I used to run to burn calories, over a year ago, quite regularly, but had…

Weights are Best-O Manifesto (or why you don't need cardio t
People tend to focus on the short view instead of the long view when it comes to what they want from their fitness efforts. Even the term most people use, "weight loss," is a symptom of this problem. You don't want to lose weight. Honestly. You want to burn fat. You will likely lose weight by doing this, but it isn't what…

Seeking recommendations for calipers
I am looking to start actively tracking BF%, but the sheer scope of brands and styles out there is a bit daunting. Anyone have any recommendations on a decent quality item, or at least an abstract of sorts on what to look out for? There seem to be electronic calipers, and very basic ones that look like a geometry compass,…

fat to skinnyfat to strong
I lost 80 lbs doing nothing but calorie restriction and cardio, and ended up a scrawny wuss. Then I started lifting heavy (like an intelligent person should have the whole time) and put 15 lbs of that 80 back on in a better way. Not to say I added 15 lbs of pure muscle. That would be ridiculously good results lol. I just…

Do you subtract your fiber from your carbs?
I've heard over the years that when figuring in your daily intake of macronutrients, dietary fiber can be effectively subtracted from your carb totals. I know that soluble and insoluble fibers will work differently in this regard, and I've never heard anything on the subject that seemed really definitive. Can anyone shed…

Lean protein, low carb--running low on ideas
I will start this off by saying that I have an extreme distaste for what I call "fake foods." There is no such thing as milk that didn't come from a breast. Tofu makes me cringe. Etc. So I know I'm limiting myself. I'm fine with that. That having been said: I'm focusing on fish (what a fight with sodium!) for the protein +…

Nutrition labels need potassium!
Seriously is there a reason that food companies aren't required to print potassium numbers? Given the rampant issues in the health of the general population that can be attributed to sodium, one would think it would be a no-brainer to make it easier for people to keep track of the yin to their sodium yang. I know no one…

olympic style (non-threaded) barbell handles
I cannot seem to find what seems like a reasonable deal on any of these things anywhere on line. Maybe I'm spoiled by the deal I got on my 300 lb weight set, but when I only spend $150 on a 7-foot olympic bar with 300 lb of plates and spring clamps to go with it, I find it hard to drop 30 bucks apiece or more on 14"…

stationary bikes: recumbent vs upright-tangible pros n cons?
A stationary bike is one of the more compact pieces of cardio equipment I can get my hands on, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if there are tangible FITNESS benefits of recumbent vs upright models. Does the change of positioning angle have any major effect on the type of workout you get from the machine? I am not a…

Considering purchase of a rowing machine-air vs magnetic
Does anyone out there have enough knowledge about rowing for fitness purposes and the related equipment to speak with authority about pertinent differences between air resistance and magnetic resistance rowing machines? Let me preface my question with some facts: 1. I am not going to spend very much money. I realize that I…

"generic" calorie burn rate
I have used many different calorie burn calculators online, as well as observing the MFP averages and using my own HRM. It seems to me that, with few exceptions, there aren't many cardio exercises that generate a significantly larger rate of calorie burn than any other aside from self-imposed intensity variations. I have…

Trimming/toning/fine tuning
Still need caloric deficit? I'm at a weight that I feel is perfectly healthy for my height and build, yet I still would like to tone my midsection. I have muscle there; my core strength is good. The muscle is still covered by a thin film of blubber, however. :P Do I need to do one thing at a time, finish removing all the…

Goal Weight Achieved!!
773 days after buying the Wii Fit and starting my weight loss journey, and 96 days after discovering MFP, I have finally lost the last few ounces to hit my goal weight of 184.5 lbs, putting me at 65.5 lbs. lost in a little over two years!! Now, to see what I can do about toning up my core... :)
